Netflix Pulls Plug On Hip-Hop-Approved Luke Cage Series After 2 Seasons

Luke Cage

Streaming giant Netflix is flexing its own super powers and putting an immediate end to its “Luke Cage” series. Months after its season two premiere, the entertainment platform says the hip-hop-influenced show is done-done.

According to reports, Netflix isn’t thinking twice about bringing “Luke Cage” back for a third season.

“Unfortunately, ‘Marvel’s Luke Cage’ will not return for a third season. Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is grateful to the dedicated showrunner, writers, cast and crew who brought Harlem’s Hero to life for the past two seasons, and to all the fans who have supported the series,” Netflix and Marvel Television said in a joint statement. The series’ second season soundtrack treated hip-hop fans to new music from rap icon Rakim.

Season 2 of Netflix’s Luke Cage premiered on Friday and much like the first season, the show is backed by an excellent soundtrack which just so happens to include brand new music from the legendary Rakim. The song, “King’s Paradise” , produced by Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad who are also the show’s music supervisors, name drops Harlem greats like Malcolm X, Louis Armstrong, Lena Horne and the show’s titular character Luke Cage. Coincidentally, the initial “Luke Cage” season two trailer features Rakim’s “I Ain’t No Joke” classic.

For its latest season, “Luke Cagehad its episodes inspired after music from hip-hop veteran Pete Rock.

Last season, “Luke Cagepaid major homage to rap group Gang Starr.

The interpolation of classic rap music is nothing new for the Luke Cage series, last season each episode was named after Gang Starr songs. They also enlisted Method Man in a cameo role. In the eleventh episode, he passes Cage in a convenience store on his way to another errand. It’s unclear what Pete Rock & CL Smooth songs will be used in the forthcoming season of Luke Cage since the episode list has yet to be revealed. (All Black Media)

Netflix Cancels ‘Marvel’s Iron Fist’ After 2 Seasons

Netflix announced that is has canceled Marvel’s Iron Fist after two seasons. We feel a ways.

Although the first season of the series chronicling the adventures of Danny Rand aka the Immortal Iron Fist was suspect, season 2 saw it find its footing with a better story and much crisper action.

Nevertheless, it’s a wrap.

“Marvel’s Iron Fist will not return for a third season on Netflix,” Marvel and Netflix in a joint statement to Deadline. “Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is proud of the series and grateful for all of the hard work from our incredible cast, crew and showrunners. We’re thankful to the fans who have watched these two seasons, and for the partnership we’ve shared on this series. While the series on Netflix has ended, the immortal Iron Fist will live on.”

However, word is that Iron Fist might live on in Disney’s upcoming unnamed streaming service as well as other Netflix shows (his cameo in season 2 of Luke Cage was clutch).

Iron Fist is the first Marvel Netflix series to get canceled. Jessica Jones is already getting a third season while Luke Cage is also expected to be picked up for a third go around as well. The third season of Marvel’s Daredevil kicks off October 19.

And let’s not forget Marvel’s Punisher, which got a season 2 re-up, which we need back, stat.

Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’ Season 3 Trailer Finally Introduces Bullseye to the Series

Daredevil has played a major part in expanding the Netflix-verse’s roster of classic Marvel characters. The first season brought us the Kingpin, aka Wilson Fisk, followed later by the introduction of The Hand, Elektra, and The Punisher. And now with its third season just a matter of days away, there’s an intriguing new arrival: Bullseye.

At New York Comic-Con over the weekend, the Netflix show officially announced the addition of the psycho assassin in the new season. The mysterious villain will be played by Wilson Bethel (How To Get Away With Murder). While Bullseye’s comic book origins are a little more mysterious, in the show his real name will be Benjamin Poindexter, an FBI agent, and ace marksman.

The footage shown during the panel insinuated a troubled history for Poindexter that Fisk will be manipulated to his advantage, whispering that no one else understands him. It’s worthwhile to note that in the comics, Benjamin Poindexter is actually just an alias used by Bullseye who has never officially been given a civilian alter ego–so this season really has an open runway as far as its story is concerned.

The trailer teases how Daredevil Season 3 will include homages to a key storyline in the comics where a masked man wearing the Daredevil outfit starts impersonating the real Daredevil, Matt Murdock, and committing crimes to ruin his image.

New ‘Daredevil’ S3 Trailer Reveals Deadly Foe Bullseye

This month, the world of Marvel welcomes back the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, aka Daredevil, for the third season. With the reemergence of Wilson Fisk, better known as the Kingpin, a new and extremely formidable foe has also entered the stage.

In a stunning new trailer coming in at over two minutes, the journey of Matt Murdock continues as he rises back from the dead after the conclusion of The Defenders and Danny Rand taking over in his role as a protector as the Iron Fist. But while Murdock wrestled with his demons and his purpose as a crime-fighting, rule-breaking vigilante, it appears he is embracing a darker side of himself while raining down violence in the same fashion as those he aims to stop.

Fisk is looming and the criminal mastermind has hatched a plan to not only boost his image to the city but also frame Daredevil as a reckless crusader in an attempt to turn New York City against him. In the trailer, it appears Fisk has shifted the public perception of Daredevil and as the two men prepare to clash, the appearance of a man clad in the all-red Daredevil costume with similar skills to Murdock appears.

While it isn’t known in the trailer who the mystery man is, savvy fans connected the dots to figure out that it was none other than Bullseye as noted in this ComicBook.com report. In the comics, Bullseye is a proverbial thorn in the side for Murdock, who is already feeling the weight of the world on his shoulders along with his driving purpose. And as expected, the fight scenes are especially top-notch as they were over the past two seasons.

Netflix will debut Daredevil’s third season on Friday, Oct. 19.

Mike Colter AKA Luke Cage Talks Character’s Chances In Going To The MCU

New York City Premiere of 'Marvel's Luke Cage' Season 2 - Arrivals

In the Marvel Comics world, Luke Cage is by most measures a pretty significant player, but he hasn’t been implemented into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Actor Mike Colter talked about the character’s chances in graduating from the Netflix world into the MCU, although nothing has been made official.

ComicBook.com reports:

“I mean it’s just, contractually, there’s always a possibility,” Colter replied. “I mean, as long they keep making them they’re going to have to use me a bit at some point. They keep making them and they’re either going to run out of ideas or they kill off some people. I don’t know, too many people are going to be dead they’re going to have to use me or they’re going to run out of ideas, one or the other, but hopefully by that time I’ll still be able to able to play him because I don’t know, I got a few years left on these knees and back, you know, we’ll see. “

Though Marvel’s Netflix series don’t crossover directly with Marvel Studios films, they are a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even there Luke’s future is uncertain. Marvel’s Luke Cage Season Two ended with Luke ascending to become the “kingpin” of Harlem. Netflix has not yet announced the third season, though Colter says there are plans in place.

At the same event, the outlet reported that Colter teased there may be a second season for The Defenders but all the focus right now is rightfully on the upcoming third season of Daredevil with Iron Fist also recently concluding its second season.

Kingpin Back: Trailer For ‘Daredevil’ Season 3 Drops, Matt Murdock Lives

For those who are entrenched in the Marvel’s small universe on Netflix, then you’re in the know that Matt Murdock, aka the Daredevil, lives on to fight again. In a new trailer, along with Murdock’s revival, his greatest nemesis, the Kingpin, is back on the streets as well.

In the trailer, Murdock, who is thought to be dead to his Defenders compatriots and Iron Fist taking on his role New York City, is clearly back to unleash justice on Hell’s Kitchen and beyond. In the clip, Murdock dons all Black while Wilson Fisk puts on the iconic all-white suit made famous in the comics version of the character.

In many ways, the pair clashing heads once more makes sense as Fisk and Murdock both think that their style of justice for the city is best, and both of their motives and methods can be called questionable.

The drama unfolds in full next month on October 19 when Marvel’s Daredevil launches season three. Check out the trailer below.

Making A Murderer 2

When Netflix premiered it’s docu-series Making A Murderer back in December of 2015 it set social media ablaze with viewers trying to crack the case of the murder of Teresa Halbach for which – thanks to some shady police work – Steven Avery and his seemingly slow nephew Branden Dassey are currently imprisoned for.

Now Netflix is gearing up to once again infuriate viewers with its documentation of a corrupt justice at work as Deadline is reporting that the second season of Making A Murderer is set to premiere on October 19.
