“This is America in 2020. It’s sickening. Light em up is what they say. And people are still asking why are we mad⁉I’m mad because my son is 13 years old and this is the world he’s growing up in. He’s seeing how much his life matters right in front of his eyes. It’s sad. It’s scary. Wait, There’s More

Meg’s longtime pal Tory Lanez has remained vocal in his support for nationwide protests. He’s also asked celebrity friends to stop promoting an end to the looting and rioting.

Before You Go

Heading into the weekend, New York rapper Cardi B hit up her social media pages with some initial thoughts on protests turning violent. She explained how after years of peaceful demonstrations, the message still has not reached law enforcement.

“Seeing people looting and going extremely outraged it makes me feel like, ‘Yes. Finally! Finally, motherf*ckers is gonna hear us now! Yeah! And as much as people are so against it, at this point, I feel like I’m not against it even though it do scare me and I don’t want anybody to get hurt. It’s just really frustrating, you wanna know why? Because police brutality been going on way before I was born but it has been more visual ever since social media started getting popping. And ever since, let’s say since Instagram started, that’s just one app – how many peaceful protests have we seen? How many trending hashtags have we seen? These hashtags freaking keep repeating themselves. I feel like I’ve done videos against police brutality, I feel like this is my seventh time. I’ve been doing f*cking police brutality was f*cked up and the only sh*t that’s changed has been my f*cking teeth. So it’s like, people are tired.” -Cardi B’s Twitter

[WATCH] Don Lemon To Hollywood: Beyonce Released A Message, You Can’t?

CNN’s Don Lemon is fed up with Hollywood and he’s not biting his tongue.
The Tonight host said he had received texts and tweets from famous faces who were afraid to “hurt [their] brands.” He gave a call out to Hollywood stars to become active and speak out about protests over the death of another unarmed black man. Lemon charged, Where are you? You can’t step up for these injustices? Where’s the black leadership?”

Lemon continued, “I’ve seen them on Twitter, I see them, ‘Oh, I’m loving what Don Lemon’s doing’ … But they gotta do more than that. “Why aren’t they helping these young people? These young people are out there standing on a platform at the edge of an abyss by themselves…Yes, I’m calling you out, and you can be mad at me all you want. And what they’re doing, you’re sitting there and watching TV and you’re b***tching abut it… Get on television or do something and help these young people instead of sitting in your mansions and doing nothing. And have some moral courage and stop worrying about your reputation and your brand. “

“I don’t want people to see me mad, it might hurt my business, I’m so upset I have to go to my country house.” The CNN host noted that Beyoncé had called for justice for George Floyd in an Instagram post. “You can’t?…”If you’re not going to do it now, when are you going to do it?… Stop making excuses.”

Today in Hip Hop History: Boogie Down Productions Released Their Second LP ‘By All Means Necessary’ 32 Years Ago

On this day in 1988, Boogie Down Productions dropped one of the best and most influential albums of all time. It was widely seen as one of, if not the first, politically conscious efforts in Hip Hop

KRS-One was initially popular for fueling the Juice Crew vs. BDP beef on wax and expanding intellectual Hip Hop music through 1987, with the release of Criminal Minded. However, when BDP’s DJ Scott La Rock was shot and killed in the South Bronx, it had a profound effect on the Brooklyn native, which resulted in a drastic rethinking of his on-record persona. By All Means Necessary was one of the first albums the group made after Scott La Rock’s death that would have a lasting effect on generations to come. The “Blastmaster” began to talk about a lot of the issues that were plaguing the black community like police brutality, government corruption, institutionalized racism, and later on giving birth to his “Stop the Violence” Campaign.

As “The Teacher”, on perhaps one of the most influential tracks from the LP, “Stop the Violence”, he spits,

“I look, but it doesn’t coincide with my books/Social Studies will not speak upon hard hitting crooks/It’s just the Presidents, and all the money they spent/All the things they invent, and how their house is so immaculate/They create missiles, my family’s eating gristle/Then they get upset when the press blows the whistle”

. As a plea to end violence in Hip Hop, which still hasn’t been heeded to this day, KRS-One took on the role as the spearhead of Hip Hop’s Stop The Violence Movement, choosing the single, “Self Destruction”, as the lead single.

With classic tracks like, “Nervous”, nearly every track on the album had a distinct narrative, and even the album cover art and the theme were Malcolm X (By Any Means Neccessary) inspired. On the track, “Jimmy”, the rapper became the first rapper to speak on the AIDS/HIV epidemic that plagued Black and Brown communities in America. On the song, “Illegal Business”, Kris gave the masses a startling perception into the drug trade and how it corrupts the police and the government.

Salute to KRS and the entire Boogie Down Productions crew for giving us this epic piece of Hip Hop history!

“It’s not about a salary, it’s all about reality..”

Faith Evans Arrested for Allegedly Attacking Stevie J

Faith Evans was arrested after she allegedly attacked her husband Stevie J.

Police were called to the 46-year-old singer and 48-year-old producer’s Los Angeles home around 1 a.m. this week after a heated argument that reportedly turned violent, according to TMZ.

When cops arrived, they noticed visible marks and scratches on Stevie’s face. Evans was arrested and booked for felony domestic violence. She was released on bond the same day.

It’s unclear what triggered the argument, but the arrest follows rumors that their marriage was in trouble. They unfollowed each other on social media last year and Stevie sent out a series of cryptic tweets. “Drunk people always speak their truth,” he wrote in one, adding, “Cherish what you love just know nothing will last forever.”

The couple, who’ve known each other since 1996, is set to celebrate their second wedding anniversary in July.

Neither Evans nor Stevie has addressed the arrest. The “Love Like This” singer was charged with cocaine and marijuana possession in 2004 and was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving in 2010.

J. Cole Attends George Floyd Protest

J. Cole marches for justice.

The North Carolina rapper was among those protesting the death of George Floyd in his hometown of Fayetteville on Saturday afternoon. Wearing a mask, Cole tried to keep a low profile while standing in a crowd of protesters that started at a local Walmart.

The protest was organized by Rakeem Jones, who was in the headlines after he was punched in the face at a Trump rally. Fayetteville mayor Mitch Colvin also attended the rally.

Protests spread across the country. In Los Angeles, Tinashe hit the streets to demand justice for Floyd, an unarmed black man who was killed by a white police officer in Minneapolis. “The protest I participated in yesterday in DTLA was non violent. We were there to protest police brutality and black lives, period,” said Tinashe, who held a “Black Lives Matter” sign.

Ariana Grande was also spotted in the streets of Beverly Hills with a “Black Lives Matter” sign, while Machine Gun Kelly marched with a message: “Silence is betrayal.”

Fresh off the release of his new album Lil Boat 3, Lil Yachty addressed the destruction in his hometown of Atlanta while spreading a peaceful message to residents. “It’s unfortunate that we gotta do this just to show our frustration,” he said. “We gon’ stick together, ’cause that’s most important, whether you’re black, whether you’re white, green, yellow, purple, we together.”

Faith Evans Reportedly Arrested After Attacking Stevie J

Faith Evans was arrested earlier this week after allegedly attacking Stevie J.

Law enforcement stated Faith was arrested around 1 am after cops were called to her home in Los Angeles, TMZ reports. She and Stevie engaged in an article that turned violent.

Police state they were able to see visible marks and scratches on Stevie’s face. There are no details as to what the fight was about, but Faith was arrested and charged with felony domestic violence. She was released on bond later in the same day.

The incident comes a year after an incident captured by a TMZ cameraman at Essence Fest showing the two had some issues, which was followed by tweets that stated “All that glitters ain’t gold” and more.

“My twitter & IG was hacked last night while I was on the plane,” Stevie wrote at the time. “My wife is the love of my life & my best friend. Whoever hacked me, you not only hurt me but my entire family.”

There are no current statements from either party about the incident.

Being Brown In America: What’s Next?

America is on fire. Not a surprise to many after another life was senselessly taken away from us. George Floyd represented millions of brown-skinned people that are targeted, attacked and judged based off the color of their skin.

We sang, we prayed, we hoped and nothing changed. Now comes the rage, anger and disbelief. Growing up as young black girl in America, I was aware of the separation of race at a very young age. Raised by my great-grandma, aunt and grandma…I already felt like a burden from day one. My mom who was a former Black Panther left me when I was 4 years old after battling several stages in life. Coming from this environment built a sad, angry confused little girl who was pushed out into a world who then treated me as a burden as well. The reality of police brutality enters our community at such a young age that even as a child I became numb to the image of seeing black men and women beat then arrested. My mom returned 7 years later and instantly began teaching me about her experiences as a Black Panther in ‘AmeriKKKa’. I moved to live with her in NYC and began attending various marches and protests against police brutality. In 1992, I was one of the few featured on the cover of the New York Amsterdam News while being maced by the NYPD at just 11-years old.

We’re treated differently in schools, retail stores, airports and anywhere others can judge or separate us. Our kinky hair, wide noses and bronze-colored skin seems to make some people uncomfortable but our talents, strength and magnetic intrigue them at the same time. We’ve watched men get beaten, abused and viciously attacked by police who have walked off free. They’ve hung black people, used plungers on them and have done deplorable things that get swept under the rug. Fast forward to today and the same things are happening over and over again and the African-American community is livid.

Michelle Obama tweeted, ‘Right now it’s George, Breonna, and Ahmaud. Before that it was Eric, Sandra, and Michael. It just goes on, and on, and on.’ These are our sentiments. When does it stop? Cities are protesting all over America right now. Some are burning, looting and fighting and others are showing up in huge droves blocking traffic to get their point across.

What’s next? Where is America headed and what can be done to change police brutality?

MGK also went to Instagram to voice his frustrations and unload on racists. He called on white fans and friends to step up against racism and asked any followers of his who support it to leave.

“I could’ve type this out, but I want y’all to see me when I say this. If you look like me, and you have racism in your heart, in your mind and coming out your mouth, f**k you. I’m ashamed of you. If you enjoy my music or you like my movies, I don’t want your business. F**k you. I don’t want nothing that’s a part of an evil agenda and that’s not what our generation’s legacy is going to be. So I’m asking the people, step up and speak out for our fellow people going through hell right now, and encourage good. Let our kids grow up in a world where they’re not scared to leave their f**king house or their car.” -Machine Gun Kelly’s Instagram
