Apple Finally Set To Release Its AirPower Charging Mat This Year, Reportedly

Apple To Release Its AirPower Charging Mat This Year, Reportedly

Source: AFP Contributor / Getty

Welcome to the party wireless charging party Apple. The company announced back in 2017 that it was planning to release a charging mat for its products, but it noticeably went mum on it for some time. Now it looks like we can expect the highly anticipated product this year.

About time.

Due to an overheating issue and interference, Apples AirPower Charging Mat was put on the backburner. The device will allow owners of the Apple Watch, AirPods and iPhone to charge their devices without having to worry about using those cords that seem to fall apart on their own.

Apple whisperer and Analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo reports the AirPower Charging Mat could hit the market first quarter of 2019. He’s usually on point, so all signs point to yes of this actually coming to fruition. Apple would be late to the game with the AirPower Charging Mat joining the ranks of its direct rival Samsung who already have been using charging mats for some time now.

But like they say better late, than never right? This news should be a huge relief to those who have been wanting Apple to drop this item but feared it was shelved altogether. The release of AirPower mat might definitely help the company rebound after lackluster iPhone sales. Keep it locked on Hip-Hop Wired for news from Apple this year.

For Vince Staples, Sobriety Also Meant Survival

Vince Staples GQ Sober Musicians

Source: Michael Schmelling / GQ

Vince Staples has only lived for a quarter of a century, but he’s already cemented his place as a cultural commentator along with his formidable musical contributions. Given that many artists of his generation rely heavily on alcohol and drugs to create and cope, Staples shared a perspective of living sober that was largely centered on survival.

GQ profiled a handful of musicians of varying eras and genres who have struggled with drug and alcohol usage and are currently living clean. One of the most prominent members of this grouping of artists was Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler, who said in the profile that he’s on his “fourth run” in getting clean. However, among the acts that were profiled for the piece, Staples was the one artist who has never indulged in drugs or drinking for reasons that were shaped by his tough Long Beach, Calif. upbringing.

From GQ:

“I am very sure that I’m gonna think different answers than Steven Tyler or anyone involved in this piece. I’ve lived a completely different life. What I’m saying is: The drug usage was the last thing on my mind. When you’re surrounded with death and dismay and poverty and all these things that happen every day, I didn’t have time to worry about using or partaking in certain things. People where I come from don’t use drugs in a recreational sense. We’re not at a party, or at the rock show, or at the rap show, doing lines in the bathroom. Where I come from, life comes day after day after day, and people use these things to cope. People use drugs as a coping mechanism, and I’ve always held that reality. Reality hurts, but so does addiction—it’s just which pain you choose.

Powerful stuff.

Check out the entire GQ’s profile examining the clean lives of nine musicians, including rock veteran Steven Tyler, here.

Travis Scott Spoke With Colin Kaepernick Ahead Of Taking Super Bowl Gig

Travis Scott Performs in Chicago on the Astroworld Tour

Source: Adam Bielawski/WENN.com / WENN

Travis Scott caught criticism for accepting the Super Bowl LIII Halftime Time show sig alongside Maroon 5 but apparently, he spoke with Colin Kaepernick ahead of the announcement. Scott’s appearance was only booked solid after he was able to confirm that a large donation would be made to a social justice non-profit organization.

Variety exclusively reports:

That announcement only came after Scott announced that he and the NFL would donate $500,000 to the non-profit social-justice organization Dream Corps. The move was clearly intended to blunt the criticism Maroon 5 and particularly Scott had received for performing at the game, due largely to the league’s treatment of former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who has essentially been banished from professional football for taking a knee during the pre-game performances of the national anthem, a move many feel is based in racism.

Scott and Kaepernick had at least one phone conversation before the rapper confirmed his Super Bowl appearance, sources tell Variety. A source close to Scott said that while the two did not necessarily agree, they emerged from the conversation with mutual respect and understanding, with the rapper taking the stance that everyone makes a statement in their own way and he felt that the money going toward Dream Corps, combined with the platform provided by the Super Bowl, will do some good.

Both men have kept publicly mum about their chat, but this could be a step in the right direction nonetheless.

R. Kelly Was So Big Mad At Dave Chappelle Piss On You Skit He Sent The Goons

Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 - Show

Source: Kevin Mazur / Getty

Thanks to Lifetime’s Surviving R. Kelly docuseries, Dave Chappelle’s infamous video squarely aimed at mocking the R&B crooner has returned to the spotlight, and faced scrutiny. Neal Brennan, Chappelle’s longtime collaborator, was recently on The Breakfast Club defending the move and also detailed that the Pied Piper of Pee Pee wanted to actually fight the comedian.

Charlamagne Tha God asked Brennan about the Chappelle’s Show “Piss On You” video and Brennan explained they were trying to poke fun at R. Kelly and humiliate him, not normalize his behavior.

“I don’t think people understand what comedy is supposed to do,” said Brennan. “We will observe things, we’ll make fun of things. Did people want us to round up a posse and go arrest R. Kelly? Like, what were we supposed to do?”

He then added the tidbit that Kells sicced the goons on Dave Chappelle. However, Chappelle had his own goons to hold him down.

Said Brennan, “R. Kelly wanted to fight Dave. His goons stepped to Dave in Chicago and Dave’s goons intervened. The goons negotiated.”

Ultimately, Brennan insisted they weren’t trying to normalize R. Kelly’s alleged behavior.

“We also did a white supremacist sketch, I don’t think we normalized white supremacy,” said Brennan. “Our job is to poke fun at things. And even if it’s bleak, we still poke fun of it. We were trying to humiliate a guy who was known for peeing… It’s like insane.”

Travis Scott & Colin Kaepernick Spoke Before Securing Super Bowl Halftime Set

travis-scott

Houston rapper Travis Scott tried to do the right thing before confirming his appearance at next month’s Super Bowl LIII halftime show. New reports claim Cactus Jack and Black Lives Matter activist and NFL free agent Colin Kaepernick spoke.

According to reports, Scott told Kaep he would only agree to perform for the NFL after getting confirmation on a charity donation.

The source also said that Scott would not confirm his performance until the donation was locked in. (Variety)

This week, Hot 97 radio veteran Ebro Darden singled Scott out for accepting a $500,000 charity donation in exchange for his performance.

Last weekend, reports emerged about Scott’s Super Bowl halftime deal.

Travis Scott today announced that in partnership with the National Football League, he will make a $500,000 donation to the non-profit organization Dream Corps, among “other initiatives that he will work with the League on.” The move is clearly designed to counter criticism over his appearance at the Super Bowl halftime show with Maroon 5 — which was finally confirmed, after weeks of speculation, precisely 30 minutes after Scott announced the donation on Sunday. (Variety)

A few days ago, halftime performers Maroon 5 announced OutKast’s Big Boi would also join in on the festivities.

Neal Brennan Reveals R. Kelly Tried to Press Dave Chappelle Over Infamous Skit

Throughout the fall out of the Surviving R. Kelly docu-series, many recalled to the pop culture references toward R. Kelly’s rumored history. The most notable one was Dave Chappelle’s “Piss On You” skit from Chappelle’s Show, which is now confirmed to have ruffled the feathers of the “Pied Pieper of R&B.”

Co-creator of Chappelle’s Show, Neal Brennan, recently made an appearance on The Breakfast Club and while talking about the legendary skit, he revealed that R. Kelly wanted to fight Chappelle and sent “goons” to press him during a trip to Chicago.

R. Kelly wanted to fight Dave,” Brennan detailed. “His goons stepped to Dave in Chicago and Dave’s goons intervened. The goons negotiated.”

Check out a clip from Neal’s time below and be sure to check out the full interview here.

YG Says Get Ready: “F**K DONALD TRUMP 2 BOMING SOON”

YG Michael Jackson Video

West Coast rapper YG is still on his “FDT” wave. The hip-hop veteran went to social media this week to hint at plans to drop a follow-up to his 2016 anti-Donald Trump anthem.

Last night, the hip-hop artist jumped on Twitter to get followers hyped about the new record.

Back in April 2016, YG and fellow California rapper Nipsey Hussle dropped their “FDT” music video.

In October, YG reached out to Donald supporter Kanye West about making a line of anti-Trump hats.

In 2017, rap star Eminem called out President Trump during a live show.

“Scotland might have to be our new home because right now sh*t ain’t going so well in the States. And I just want to take this moment right now to say motherf*ck Donald Trump.”

Mac Miller’s Parents Plan To Accept Their Son’s ‘Rap Album Of The Year’ Award At The Grammys

The parents of deceased Pittsburgh rap mainstay Mac Miller will be in attendance at this year’s Grammy Awards.

Miller’s Swimming album was posthumously nominated for Album Of The Year and according to TMZ, the Millers will be present to accept the award in his name if he wins.

Tragedy struck last year when Miller passed away from an accidental overdose in his California home. He was only 26 years old.

According to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner, Miller, 26, passed away from “mixed drug toxicity,” that included “fentanyl, cocaine and ethanol.” “The manner of death was certified as an accident,” according to RadarOnline.

Last year, several rappers paid tribute to the fallen rapper through song, including Travis Scott and Post Malone.

Quavo Invites Clemson Football Team to Quality Control HQ

Quavo wants to show Trump how champions are supposed to be treated.

It is a common tradition for every college and professional team to visit the White House upon winning a championship. Since Trump’s presidential term, many teams have denied the invitation to visit the White House. The Golden State Warriors have won 2 championships since POTUS 45 took office. They have denied the visit for consecutive years. They are the favorite to three-peat as NBA champions, so we won’t be surprised if they don’t show up again.

The 2019 College Football Champion Clemson Tigers were the first team to visit the White House a week after their win over Alabama. They were greeted with a fast food buffet for a meal upon entering the White House dining room.

Earlier in the day, Trump said he was going to order fast food when the team arrived.

“I think we are going to serve McDonald’s Wendy’s and Burger King’d with some pizza,” he said. “I would think that’s their favorite food.”

With many of White House staff out due to the government shutdown, Trump purchased the cheapest food he could find.

“Of all the crazy things Trump said and did over the weekend, this might be the craziest,” said Jimmy Kimmel on his late-night show Monday night.

Although Trump is a notorious tweeter, he forgot to use spell check when tweeting about the visit.

Many of the Clemson players said the visit was a joke after being treated as such. Well, Quavo caught wind of this and has extended an invitation to the Clemson Tigers. Although Honcho is a perceived Georgia Bulldogs fan, he wants to show Trump how you should treat a National Champion. It is obvious that Quavo knows more about hospitality than Trump. He is homegrown in Southern roots. As for Trump, it is unsure if he is homegrown in any aspect of hospitality. Hopefully, the Tigers take Quavo up on his offer.
