Lizzo Calls Out Tik Tok Over Deleting Swimsuit Videos

It’s no secret that Lizzo is a proud of her body, so when the full-figured hottie took to Tik Tok to post a few videos, she noticed that certain videos weren’t being posted.

On Thursday (Mar 5) Lizzo took to social media to call out the site for removing videos of her in her bathing suit, while allowing others users with the same attire to remain. Noticing the double standard, Lizzo addressed the issue by posting a video to the site of herself lip syncing to a song by 22-year-old influencer Erin McMillen.

In a clip posted ever-so-slyly to TikTok, Lizzo is getting her hair done with a caption that reads, “Tiktok keeps taking down my videos with me in my bathing suits,” adding, “But allows other videos with girls in bathing suits. I wonder why Tiktok…we need to talk.”

All the while, the body-positive songstress is mouthing the words to a song with the lyrics “I know” repeatedly, acknowledging what we all know— the video content was taken down because of the way she looks in a swimsuit.

This isn’t the first time the 31-year-old has had to address haters over her body positive stance. During an interview with Glamour,  the “Good As. Hell” singer spoke about the backlash she faces for openly loving herself—just the way she is.

“When people look at my body and be like, ‘Oh my God, she’s so brave,’ it’s like, ‘No, I’m not,” Lizzo said last year. “I’m just fine. I’m just me. I’m just sexy. If you saw Anne Hathaway in a bikini on a billboard, you wouldn’t call her brave. I just think there’s a double standard when it comes to women. I don’t like it when people think it’s hard for me to see myself as beautiful. I don’t like it when people are shocked that I’m doing it.”

With more than 3.4 million followers and 9.8 million views on that video alone, the message was loud and clear and caught the attention of the Tik Tok heads, who according to Page Six, allowed the site to restore the video.

In response to the allegations that the video was removed in a way to body shame Lizzo, a Tik Tok representative responded noting that the video was removed due to those in control “mistaking her swimsuit for underwear, but upon further review they discovered that it was Lizzo’s bathing suit and not her underwear.”

TikTok’s content standards, which were updated in early 2020, forbids “sexually explicit or gratifying content” including nudity. However, the guidelines do not specify where bathing suits fall within those rules.

Lizzo Ties Iggy Azalea for Longest Run on Top of Hot 100 By Female Rap Artist

After a one week break, Lizzo and her hit single “Truth Hurts” has returned to the top of the Billboard Hot 100.

The rising star had her consecutive streak stop at six weeks with the release of “Highest in the Room” by Travis Scott. Her return to the peak has tied “Fancy” by Iggy Azalea as the longest rule ever for a rap song by a female artist.

The first time the single hit the top of the Billboard list was September 7.

Previous efforts to hit number one and included a female rapper was Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow,” which had a 3 week run in 2017, Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing),” which experienced a 2 week run in 1998 and one week stints for “I Like It” from CARDI B with Bad Bunny & J Balvin, and “Stand Up” by Ludacris, which featured Shawnna.

Billboard details “Truth Hurts” also sits atop the Radio Songs chart for a fifth week with 115.3 million audience impressions and is at the top of the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs for the eighth week in a row.

Next week we will see if Lizzo can hold it down for a Hot 100 record-breaking eighth week.

Lizzo Has Been Accused of Stealing Lines For “Truth Hurts”

Producer Justin Raisen has accused Lizzo of stealing the line “I just took a DNA test found out that I’m 100% that bitch,” which is featured in her top-charting hit “Truth Hurts.”

Raisen says that the catchy line was a collaborative effort between him, Lizzo, his brother Jeremiah Raisen, songwriter Jesse Saint John and songwriter Yves Rothman for a song called “Healthy.”

In an Instagram post, Raisen writes that they were not credited for their part.

The Truth about “Truth Hurts” On April 11th, 2017, we wrote a song called “Healthy” w/ Lizzo, Jesse St John, and Yves Rothman at our studio. “I just took a DNA test turns out I’m 100% that bitch” was taken from “Healthy” and used in “Truth Hurts”. We were never contacted about being credited for the use of the parts of “Healthy” (melody, lyrics, and chords) that appear in “Truth Hurts”. After reaching out to Ricky Reed and Lizzo’s team about fixing it, we put the song in dispute in 2017 when it came out. We’ve tried to sort this out quietly for the last two years, only asking for 5% each but were shutdown every time. Coming forward publicly to family, friends, artists, and colleagues seems to be the only way at this point in relieving some of our emotional distress caused by this. The last thing we want to do is throw any negativity toward Lizzo’s momentum and movement as a cultural figure. If we believe in what she’s preaching, believing in ourselves & our own voices is something we thought she’d understand. Shout out to the singer Mina Lioness ( @minalioness ) for tweeting “I just did a DNA test turns out I’m 100% that bitch”. A meme of that came up in our writing session & inspired the lyric and melody we wrote together. If Ricky and Lizzo’s team decide to settle this dispute with us, we would like to share some of the proceeds with Mina for her influence on Healthy. The clip below shows a video & photos from the day we wrote “Healthy” along with the comparisons between the two works. All the Love, Justin & Jeremiah Raisen #lizzo #truthhurts #healthy #billboard

He ended the post by saying that singer Mina Lioness for the meme that inspired the line.

Lizzo addressed Mina Lioness in a tweet saying that she actually did give credit to where it was due and the song was written in June.

Do you think the songs sound similar?

Whose Line Is It Anyway?: Lizzo Hit With Second Plagiarism Lawsuit

ACL Music Festival 2019

Unapologetic songstress Lizzo will soon have to face the music against claims that she plagiarized her huge hit “Truth Hurts.”

Producer and songwriter Justin Raisen claims that Lizzo is unfairly taking credit for its opening line when he wrote the line as a part of another song two years ago.

In an Instagram post on Tuesday( Oct. 15), Raisen claimed that he and his brother, Jeremiah Raisen, were part of a collaborative studio session with Lizzo and fellow songwriters Jesse Saint John and Yves Rothman, which took place back in April 2017.

“Coming forward publicly to family, friends, artists, and colleagues seems to be the only way at this point in relieving some of our emotional distress caused by this,” he added. “The last thing we want to do is throw any negativity toward Lizzo’s momentum and movement as a cultural figure. If we believe in what she’s preaching, believing in ourselves & our own voices is something we thought she’d understand.”

Raisen then went on to state that they reached out to Lizzo privately to resolve the issue but was dismissed forcing them to go public.

“After reaching out to Ricky Reed and Lizzo’s team about fixing it, we put the song in dispute in 2017 when it came out,” Raisen continued. “We’ve tried to sort this out quietly for the last two years, only asking for 5% each but were shut down every time.”

Justin Raisen makes the second songwriter to accuse the “Juice” singer of ripping her now signature line.

In February of 2018, Lizzo, whose real name is Melissa Jefferson, was accused of stealing the lyric from British singer Mina Lioness, who claims that Lizzo stole the line from her viral tweet.

“Now everyone believes those were your words, when in fact they were mine. My creativity, my wit and my comedy.” Lioness tweeted.

Lizzo responded to Lioness’s complaint at the time, noting that she had never seen the viral tweet.

“I’ve never seen ur viral tweet but I’m glad it exists,” she tweeted.

Despite the controversy surrounding the now-infamous line, Lizzo has always maintained in previous interviews about the song that the inspiration for the line to an Instagram meme that stated, “I’m 100% that bitch.”

While Lizzo has yet to respond to the recent allegations, she did take to Twitter to post a seemingly unbothered tweet.

Lizzo’s ‘Truth Hurts’ Run at No. 1 Hits Six Weeks

Could Lizzo be gearing up for a run the same way Lil Nas X did earlier this year? Her “Truth Hurts” single has hit its sixth week at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Billboard details Lizzo has also attached “Good as Hell” to the top 30 of the charts marking the second top 40 hit for the rapper.

“Truth Hurts” is now the longest-running single at No. 1 by a female artist unaccompanied by another artist. The previous leader was Cardi B, who had “Bodak Yellow” hold down the top spot for three weeks in 2017. If the single stay at No. 1 for another week it will tie Iggy Azalea’s Charli XCX-featured single “Fancy,” which held down the top spot for seven weeks in 2014.

“Truth Hurts” is also atop of the Digital Song Sales charts for its fifth weeks with 30,000 units moved in the week. The song also sits on top of the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs charts.

Lizzo Now Has the No. 1 Song on Billboard Hot 100 With “Truth Hurts”

After turning heads with her live performance at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards, pop/soul sensation Lizzo is capping off her summer with a bang by landing the number one spot this week on the Billboard Hot 100 with her two-year-old viral hit “Truth Hurts.”

The song’s release history plays out like a “little engine that could” tale. Actually, “Truth Hurts” didn’t even chart when it was first released back in 2017; the song resurfaced on the charts earlier this year after a surge in popularity following the success of her hit 2019 album Cuz I Love You. The song was then put on the deluxe version of the album as a bonus track, and over the past few months has become an anthem for anyone that enjoys feel-good music and aligns themselves with Lizzo’s overall positivity initiative. Lizzo herself was ecstatic about the feat, writing on IG in all caps, “THIS IS A W FOR ALL OF US. ANYBODY WHO EVER FELT LIKE THEY VOICE WASN’T HEARD. ANYBODY WHO FELT LIKE THEY WEREN’T GOOD ENOUGH. YOU ARE. WE ARE. CHAMPIONS.”

Congratulations, Lizzo! Watch the video for “Truth Hurts” below if you haven’t already, and go listen to Cuz I Love You on all streaming platforms:
