NBA & ESPN Reportedly Considering Televising H-O-R-S-E Competition

The NBA & ESPN Considering Televising H-O-R-S-E Competitions: Report

Source: Katelyn Mulcahy / Getty

The NBA is desperately trying to find a way to keep folks entertained and its athletes playing during this coronavirus shutdown. The league’s latest proposal could see its brightest stars competing in a game of H.O.R.S.E.

With the NBA running out of options to salvage the 2019-20 season, which is looking like it will be lost at this point, the association and ESPN are considering other options. The two entities along with 2K Sports and N.B.A.P.A., have already blessed fans with the N.B.A. 2K Player’s Tournament which is currently underway and now reports indicate we could see NBA superstars competing in a game of H.O.R.S.E. in “home gyms.”

ESPN’s N.B.A. insider, Adrian Wojnarowski broke the news with a “Wojbomb” stating:

“The NBA and ESPN are working on televising a H-O-R-S-E competition involving several high-profile players, sources say. Players would shoot in isolation – presumably in home gyms – and match shots against competitors. Details are still being finalized.”

The NBA has been shut down for a month since sh*t got real when Utah Jazz star Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19 opening the flood gates. When it comes to starting back up the league don’t count it, Woj reports things are looking real bleak when it comes to that idea.

Well something is better than nothing, are you guys on board for seeing an H-O-R-S-E competition with your favorite NBA superstar? Let us know in the comment section below.

Not So Fast: Australian NBL Says Sale of Team To LaMelo Ball & Manager Not Complete

LaMelo Ball's Purchase of Australian Team Illawarra Hawks Not Finalized

Source: Anthony Au-Yeung / Getty

LaMelo Ball and his manager Jermaine Jackson announced they made serious power move, but it looks like that deal hasn’t been finalized yet.

The Australian NBL has basically said to Ball and his manager that they have too much dip on their chip at the moment. Jackson announced on ESPN that he and his client purchased Ball’s Australian team, the Illawarra Hawks.

“We own the team,” he said. “It’s a done deal.”

In a statement, the Hawks revealed the deal has not yet been finalized stating:

“The league can confirm LaMelo Ball and his management had discussions about being involved with the club while he was playing in the NBL last season.

“At this point, we are continuing to work with current license holder Simon Stratford on a number of options for what we hope will be a fruitful outcome for Illawarra and the NBL.

“The NBL has final approval on any transfer of license, and no application has been made to date. The NBL has no further comment at this stage.”

Oh?

While under the impression the deal was done, Jackson, who played in the NBA for five seasons with the Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors, Atlanta Hawks, New York Knicks and Milwaukee Bucks explained how much LaMelo loved playing ball in the country and how welcomed he felt.

“Melo loves the Illawarra fans. He loves that community. They opened their arms to him. They made us feel like we are at home. When we started hearing about the issues they were going through, we talked about it and decided, ‘Let’s own the team.’

“He is going to be locked into his NBA career, but we are going to hire the right people to oversee everything. He wants to create the best basketball program possible for that community there.”

During his short stint with the Hawks, LaMelo only played in 12 games but did manage to average 17.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 7.0 assists in 12 games and had back to back triple-doubles before going down with a season-ending foot injury. His play was good enough that he is expected to be a top 5 draft pick in the 2020 NBA draft.

Bleacher Report’s Jonathan Wasserman projects that Ball be the selected with the No.3 pick by Minnesota Timberwolves.

Quarantine Confessions: Carmelo Anthony’s Alleged Baby Mama Speaks About Past Wrongs, Co-Parenting

Mia Banks

Source: @miaangel_ / Instagram

While everyone is inside practicing social distancing, some are taking the time to social media to air out grievances.

On Tuesday (Mar 31), Carmelo Anthony‘s alleged baby’s mother, Mia Burks, took to Instagram to answer fan questions, but it seemed most fans were only interested in the relationship that she had with Melo and took the time to get some sought after answers.

During the Q&A session, one fan asked how co-parenting was going with the veteran baller to which Burks replied with one simple word, “patience.”

Although Carmelo has made a habit of avoiding the rumors of extramarital relationships and has never confirmed the child, Burks has taken to social media before to call him out for his lack of interaction with their daughter. In 2019 when the rumor mill began churning after images surfaced of Carmelo Anthony getting close on a yacht with a then identified woman, Burks took some time out to put the baller on blast for not visiting his child instead.

“N—-s out here explaining how they’re laid up on a boat with another man’s wife but can’t explain why they can’t spend time with their daughter,” Burks wrote at the time.

But it seems that not too much has changed. After another fan asked Burks about how she deals with the negativity surrounding her and the situation, that’s when Burks wasn’t so simplistic with her response.

“MFs still talking about lil ol’ me? damn hate to see it,” Burks wrote. “Let me be as transparent as I can—I have called myself everything that I have been called by people on the internet at one point. But I went through a process where I had to reflect on my choices, dig deep, and hold myself accountable for the energy I put out & received. God will get you through anything. Knowledge of self will get you through anything. You can’t ignore the wrongs in your life- you have to right them. So many people who walk this earth have a testimony.”

In one last final act of pettiness, one fan asked if she felt that since Drake finally revealed his son to the world, would Carmelo be next, to which Burks responded with crying laughing emojis, before adding “sidebar: drake’s son is sooooo adorable!”

Kevin Durant Confirms He’s 1 of The 4 Brooklyn Nets With The Rona, Twitter Reacts

Kevin Durant Confirms He Tested Positive For Coronavirus, Twitter Reacts

Source: Mike Stobe / Getty

The sports world was thrown for a loop when it was revealed four Brooklyn Nets players tested positive for coronavirus. Now we know that superstar Kevin Durant is one of those players.

The rona is out here getting everyone. NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski first dropped the “Wojbomb” that four Brooklyn Nets players testing positive for COVID-19 but initially didn’t release the names of those individuals.

The organization released an official statement confirming the developments, and that of the four, one player is showing symptoms, and the others are asymptomatic. The team said all players are currently being isolated and under the care of team physicians.

“The organization is currently notifying anyone who has had known contact with the players, including recent opponents and is working closely with state and local health authorities on reporting. All players and members of the Nets travel party are being asked to remain isolated, closely monitor their health, and maintain constant communication with the team medical staff. The health of our players and staff is of the highest priority to the organization, and the team is doing everything within its power to ensure those affected receive the best care possible.”

Soon after it was confirmed by Durant himself that he was one of the four players he confirmed to The Athletic and Stadium but says he is feeling fine and left NBA Insider/Write Shams Charania with this message for fans:

“Everyone be careful, take care of yourself, and quarantine. We’re going to get through this.”

Durant is the latest big-name name celebrity to be infected with the virus. He joins Idris Elba, Tom Hanks and fellow ballers Donovan Mitchell, Christian Wood, and Rudy Gobert, who was the first NBA to test positive for COVID-19, subsequently shutting the league down.

Twitter is currently exploding with reactions to the bombshell news as they wait to figure out who the other three players are. We already know it is not Spencer Dinwiddie.

Some folks are even pointing out that Durant was spotted with Drake just five days ago.

Yikes. This is getting real spooky.

Jay-Z & Blue Ivy Team Up For Father Daughter Fun at Lakers Game

Celebrities At The Los Angeles Clippers Game

Source: Allen Berezovsky / Getty

Jay-Z and daughter Blue Ivy decided to hang out for some father-daughter time at Lakers-Clippers game, but it was Blue Ivy who ended up stealing the show.

On Sunday (Mar 8) Jay-Z and eight-year-old Blue sat courtside as the oldest Carter flexed her style sense on the adults. Donning black skinny jeans, a cropped graphic tee, Fendi leather combat boots, and a customized denim jacket that said, “Blue is my name” across the back, she posed for photographs leaving Twitter shook.

“Something about the fact that Blue Ivy is mature enough to be sitting court side with her legs crossed is sending me,” Sylvia Obell tweeted.

After the Lakers won that evening, ESPN shared footage of Blue and Jay-Z congratulating LeBron James on his team’s win and during the sweet moment we catch glimpse of an endearingly shy Blue asking the basketball star if she could receive a personally signed basketball from him.

“You want a ball from me? Okay, I got you! I got you!” LeBron could be heard telling Blue. “You got school on Monday? By the time you get out of school on Monday, you’ll have it,” promised the NBA star.

This wasn’t the first time the young fashionista has stolen the show, last month during the Super Bowl, Blue Ivy blessed the world with her cool-girl style as she rocked a leather jacket then with a red peplum top, a leather skirt, and black combat boots. It’s no secret to where Blue gets her style from, according to People Beyoncé’s bonding style with Blue is to take her to rehearsals and shows—so we know that Blue is definitely picking up a few pointers from icon mama Queen Bey.

Although Beyoncé and twins, Rumi and Sir Carter, were not at the game, other notable stars showed up and showed out, including Chrissy Teigen and John Legend, who were also courtside; along with 2 Chainz, Maverick Carter and his daughter, Lyra Carter, were also in attendance.

Jay-Z Details His Final Convo With Kobe Bryant During Columbia Lecture Series

Jay-Z Details His Final Conversation With Kobe Bryant

Source: Ronald Martinez / Getty

Pretty much everyone that has directly interacted with Kobe Bryant has shared a story about the late NBA superstar. Speaking at his lecture series in partnership with Columbia University, JAY-Z got candid about his final conversation with Bryant.

Jigga was asked by an attendee about his deep relationship with sports with his agency, and the passing of Kobe Bryant, Hov revealed that the final conversations with Bryant were primarily about the joy he got watching his 13-year-old daughter play the sport he loved.

“Kobe was a guy that looked up to me, and we’ve hung out multiple times. He was last at my house on New Year’s, and he was just in the greatest space that I’ve seen him in. One of the last things he said to me was, ‘You’ve got to see Gianna play basketball.’ And that was one of the most hurtful things, because he was so proud.”

Hov further added that he could tell by the look on Kobe’s face that he knew Gianna was destined for sports greatness. “I looked and him and said, ‘Oh, she’s going to be the best female basketball player in the world,’” he told Kobe. “He was just so proud of what he said. So that’s really a tough one, and my wife and I have taken that really tough. Just a great human being and was in a great space in his life.”

Deep.

Kobe and Gianna were among nine people who tragically died in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California, last month. Bryant’s wife Vanessa has been very active on Instagram sharing, reflecting on the lives of her late husband and daughter and even sharing videos from a ceremony from Gianna’s school where they retired the young basketball star’s no.2 jersey.

The date for Kobe and Gianna’s memorial service at the Staple’s Center has also been set as well.

Gayle King Responds To Kobe Bryant Backlash, Hurls CBS Under The Bus: “I Would Be Mad At Me Too”

CBS This Morning...

Source: CBS Photo Archive / Getty

After being dragged by Black Twitter and multiple celebrities, Gayle King has decided to respond to the criticism behind her interview with WNBA legend Lisa Leslie.

On Thursday (Feb. 6) King took to social media to respond to the accusations that she berated Lisa Leslie with questions about Kobe Bryant’s 2003 sexual assault allegation, stating that the clip released online was not the totality of the interview.

“I’ve been up reading the comments about the interview I did with Lisa Leslie about Kobe Bryant, and I know that if I had only seen the clip that you saw, I’d be extremely angry with me too,” Gayle King said on Instagram. “I am mortified. I am embarrassed and I am very angry. Unbeknownst to me, my network put up a clip from a very wide-ranging interview — totally taken out of context — and when you see it that way, it’s very jarring. It’s jarring to me. I didn’t even know anything about it.”

King went on to state that while she understands the backlash, her goal with the prodding wasn’t to tarnish Bryant’s legacy, it was to put a seal on the elephant in the room.

“I reached out to Lisa — because I know she’s a longtime friend of Kobe’s — to talk about his legacy and their friendship,” King continued. “We had a really wide-ranging interview, talked about many things: his career, his passion, his sense of humor, the way he was mentoring other people, how he was starting his next chapter, it was wide-ranging. And yes, we talked about that court case because that court case has also come up. And I wanted to get Lisa’s take on it as a friend who knew him well, what she thought, where that should stand. It was very powerful when she looked me in the eye, as a member of the media, to say, ‘It’s time for the media to leave it alone and to back off.”

As previously reported, King was dragged online after a clip from the interview with the Los Angeles Sparks legend hit the web showing a stern King seemingly pressing Leslie to say something negative over the 2003 allegations.

“It’s been said that his legacy is complicated because of a sexual assault charge which was dismissed in 2003, 2004,” King asked. “Is it complicated for you, as a woman, as a WNBA player?”

Leslie, who was Bryant’s best friend, responded that she doesn’t feel Kobe’s legacy is complicated at all before noting that the allegations made against Bryant in 2003 don’t line up with the character that he was known to exhibit on and off the court.

“It’s not complicated at all,” Leslie responded. “I’ve just have never seen Kobe be the type of person to do something or violate a woman, or be aggressive in that way. That’s just not the person that I know.”

King states that the triggering clip from the interview was a result of CBS attempting to use that portion of the interview to garner ratings and not her attempting to tarnish Bryant’s legacy.

“I felt really good about the interview … so, for the network to take the most salacious part when taken out of context, and put it up online for people who didn’t see the whole interview, is very upsetting to me and that’s something I’m going to have to deal with with them. There will be a very intense discussion about that,” King explained.

Ultimately she states that she has nothing but respect for Kobe Bryant and his legacy and is also mourning his loss.

“I also want to say this. I have been with Kobe Bryant on many social occasions. He was very kind and very warm to me and I felt we had a friendly relationship. I too am mourning his loss just like everybody else. I still am shocked by it. It’s tragic and untimely and the last thing I would want to do is disparage him at this particular time … and that’s why I’m taking this time to speak to you directly, I’ve never done one of these before, but this is so important to me that I felt I had to say something. I don’t want to sit up on a set and read a prepared remark. I wanted you to hear exactly where I’m coming from and how I’m feeling, and to let everybody know that no disrespect intended … I thank you for listening.”

Ja Morant Wants All The Smoke With Andre Iguodala & Steph Curry, #NBATwitter Is Loving It

Denver Nuggets v Memphis Grizzlies

Source: Joe Robbins / Getty

Memphis Grizzlies rookie phenom, Ja Morant wants all the smoke. He’s got #NBATwitter applauding him after he took apparent shots at both Andre Iguodala and Steph Curry.

Give Morant the Rookie of The Year trophy already, is what many NBA fans are saying. Morant had Twitter buzzing following comments he made when it was reported by David Aldrige that the Memphis Grizzlies and Andre Iguodala “mutually agreed” that he would not suit up for the team this season.

The electric guard agreed with the sentiments of teammate Dillon Brooks sharing a Tweet from sports columnist Mark Giannmoto that shared Brooks feelings towards Iggy:

“I can’t wait till we find a way to trade him so we can play him and show him really what Memphis is about.”

Both comments came following the Grizzlies victory over the Detroit Pistons on Monday night (Feb.3).

Currently injured Golden State Warriors’ sharpshooter, Steph Curry caught wind of the comments and replied to Morant by sharing a photo of his former teammate holding the Larry O’Brien trophy with the shush emoji.

Morant didn’t back down and kept the same energy replying under a Tweet shared by ESPN’s Rachel Nichols with a picture of Kevin Durant holding his finals MVP trophy. Twitter users quickly assumed he meant that without Durant’s help, Curry or Iguadola wouldn’t have those rings he would be boasting about.

When someone tried to remind Ja that Steph and Klay are killers, Morant responded he is well aware but pointed out he is a killer too.

We love this kid, we really do. Unfortunately, the Grizzlies and Warriors will not meet up again this season, we definitely will be marking the games off on our calendar cause things will get spicy on that court. You can peep all of the reactions in the gallery below.

Jennifer Lopez & Shakira Raise Awareness of Social Injustice During Super Bowl Halftime Show, MAGA Twitter Livid

Pepsi Super Bowl LIV Halftime Show

Source: Elsa / Getty

Jennifer Lopez and Shakira may have shut down Halftime during the Super Bowl, but their amazing performances was no match for the blatant racism and criticism of MAGA Twitter.

On Sunday (Feb. 2) the duo took the stage delivering a powerful and culture filled performances which included a medley of their hits, a performance by rapper Bad Bunny, and also a poignant message regarding the social injustices that are effecting the Latinx community.

As J. Lo was finishing her “Dance Again” hit, Hard Rock Stadium turned dark –– only to be brightened by her daughter Emme and other children who were caged in neon structures. While moving out of the cage, Emme began to sing the opening lyrics of “Let’s Get Loud” and cameras focused on kids with sweaters that had U.S. flags on them.

Many on social media believed it was a call for attention to Trump’s “zero tolerance” immigration policy, which split up hundreds of parents and children at the border; while the American flags and J. Lo singing Bruce Springsteen’s classic hit “Born in the USA” before donning a Puerto Rican flag cape points to J. Lo shining a light on the deplorable condition that Trump and his administration has left Puerto Rico (which is part of the United States) in after continued natural disasters devastation.https://twitter.com/DavidBegnaud/status/1224411004714586113?s=20

Back in December, Puerto Rico was hit with a 4.7 magnitude earthquake, kicking off a series of seismic events on the island, with more than 2,000 tremors occurring since the original quake; leaving the island’s three million people in fear, and wanting for aid.

Either way, MAGA Twitter was not happy, taking to social media to broadcast their hate and clear ignorance.

Despite the ignorance being spewed, the messages being conveyed were loud and clear and the fact that two women of color over the age of 40 are still able to not only command a stage but dominate entire conversations proves that the choice to perform was a calculated risk that paid off.

“The Super Bowl is a very American event, as American as it can get,” Shakira said during Thursday’s NFL-sponsored press conference. “It’s also going to be a reminder of the heritage of this country, which is one of diversity.”

Check out the amazing performance and some of the reactions below.
