Deion Sanders Revisits Suicide Attempt In Autobiography Ahead of ESPN ’30 For 30′

ESPN '30 For 30' Doc Will Revisit Deion Sanders' Suicide Attempt

Deion ‘PrimeTime’ Sanders accomplished a lot of the goals all professional athletes strive for. But at one point in his life, the two-sport star was in a very dark place and tried to end it all. A new ESPN 30 For 30 documentary will touch on Sanders’ almost succumbing to the pressures of fame.

Sanders an NFL Hall-of-Famer and two time Superbowl champion on the outside was a charismatic figure on an off the field. He was living the life and the “Must Be The Money” rapper had it all but reveals in his autobiography Power, Money & Sex: How Success Almost Ruined My Life, it all of those things brought him to the brink of taking his own life.

The book was first released in the late ’90s but a new ESPN 30 For 30 documentary about Sanders airing January 31st,2019  will revisit the moment as reported by The Undefeated. The trouble began for the high-stepping cornerback during his first marriage to then-wife Carolyn Chambers back in 1997 who is the mother of his two children Deion Jr and Deiondra. Their union was hit a snag and propelling him to spiral downward with him attempting suicide.

“I was going through the trials and tribulations of life. I was pretty much running on fumes. I was empty, no peace, no joy. Losing hope with the progression of everything.”

Sanders tried to kill himself by driving his car off a cliff 30- to 40-feet down. He survived and after the life-changing experience gave his life to God.

“I finally just got on my knees and gave it all to the Lord. Slowly, but surely, I had to deal with my faith, deal with my strength. I had to get a lot of Word in so that I could fight off the enemy. I wouldn’t be where I am today without my faith. People argue about what faith is, and who Jesus is, but it works for me. I’m not going to sit here and argue about who is what, and what is what, I’m just going to say it works for me.”

We are looking forward to seeing the doc which will give us a closer look on Deion Sanders’ life while he a star in the NFL, and his attempt back in 1992 at playing in a pro-football game and MLB National League Championship game in the same day.

Docu-series On The Los Angeles Lakers “Showtime” Era In Development

Minnesota Timberwolves v Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers dominated the NBA in the 1980s on the back of the supremely talented Earvin “Magic” Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, spearheading an intense rivalry with the Boston Celtics. A five-part documentary series featuring the “Showtime” era of the Lake Show with Pat Riley at the coaching helm is currently in development.

Deadline reports:

The Los Angeles Media Fund and the Lakers are teaming up with Haven Entertainment to produce a five-episode docu-series focusing on the ’80s Showtime era of the storied basketball team. That was the period when Pat Riley coached the run and gun style distinguished by Magic Johnson’s passing and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s scoring and shot blocking, with Jamaal Wilkes, James Worthy, Byron Scott, and Michael Cooper backing them up. Courtside, celebs like Jack Nicholson turned The Forum into the town’s hottest ticket and the team won five NBA titles and waged an unbelievable rivalry with Larry Bird’s Boston Celtics. The series will be directed by Kristopher Belman (More Than A Game) and financed by Jeffrey Soros and Simon Horsman’s Los Angeles Media Fund.

Before the Michael Jordan and LeBron James era, the Lakers and Celtics were the premier teams at the time ahead of the Detroit Pistons breaking out into a back-to-back championship run.  This occurred, of course, before the Chicago Bulls’ dominance in the NBA throughout the early 1990s.

The series has yet to announce an air date.

Darren Collison Crosses DeAndre Ayton Out of His Pumas, #NBATwitter Reacts

Darren Collinson crosses DeAndre Ayton

Source: Mitchell Leff / Getty

DeAndre Ayton is having himself a good first year so far. But last night he suffered what is likely going to be one of many growing pains when playing in the NBA. The Phoenix Suns rookie got to be in the highlight of the night, but unfortunately, he’s on the receiving end in it.

Welcome to the league young man.

Last night, Indiana Pacers guard Darren Collison hit Ayton with the purest of crossovers sending the big man toppling like a slow falling tree after it has been cut down. To add insult to injury Collison added the exclamation point with a cookie of layup possibly due to players stunned at what they just witnessed.

Ayton literally looked like he a chair pulled from under him and had everyone putting an APB out for his rookie ankles. Now getting crossed in the league is nothing new, but it’s extremely rare to witness a player getting yanked so purely. Typically when we get one of these highlights, there is some factor that contributes to the victim falling like stepping on the player’s foot, tripping over a leg or something.

Well as you can imagine #NBATwitter had to bless the rookie slander after his ankles got destroyed. He might want to throw those Pumas away after last night. Hit the gallery for all of the reactions to Darren Collison properly welcoming Ayton to the NBA.

Foul On The Play?: Houston Rockets and Carmelo Anthony Part Ways, #NBATwitter Has Thoughts

Twitter Reacts To The Houston Rockets Parting Ways With Carmelo Anthony

Source: Tim Warner / Getty

Carmelo Anthony can’t seem to catch a break. The Carmelo Anthony x Houston Rockets experiment has come to a very disappointing end—leaving the future Hall-of-Famer’s career in limbo.

NBA Twitter has some serious thoughts about the matter. The “Melodrama” continues.

Who would have thought Carmelo’s career would end up going in a direction like this? We wouldn’t be surprised if the answer to that question was not many or anyone at all. ESPN’s Senior NBA Insider, Adrian Wojnarowski broke the news of the Rockets deciding to move on from Anthony.

Right on cue, the speculations of where the aging superstar might land could be heard with some saying his best choices would either be the Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers or Philadelphia 76’ers. While he hasn’t gotten any immediate offers from NBA teams, JJ Barea did offer Melo a chance to join the Puerto Rican National Team. But there is one person who feels Melo should just pack it up and ride off into the sunset.

Retired NBA superstar and now ESPN analyst Tracy McGrady believes Carmelo should retire. While some like his best buddies Chris Paul and LeBron James feels he still has something left in the tank, McGrady thinks that he is no longer the primary scoring option for any team and being put in a player/coach lesser bench role has no appeal to him. If Melo’s situation sounds familiar to you it should because it does bear a resemblance to how Allen Iverson’s stubbornness to accept a bench or diminished role eventually pushed him out of the league.

Regardless of how this situation pans out Carmelo Anthony is still one of the best players to step on an NBA court. That is one thing they can never take away from him, we hope the situation pans out for him. Hit the gallery below to see the reactions to Carmelo’s short tenure with the Houston Rockets coming to an end.

LeBron Passes Wilt Chamberlain NBA All-Time Scoring List, Jordan Next & Twitter Reacts

Celebrities At The Los Angeles Lakers Game

Source: Allen Berezovsky / Getty

LeBron James is already one of the greatest basketball players to ever grace the court. He continued to make that case last night when he climbed passed the great Wilt Chamberlain on the all-time scoring list.

New team, same greatness.

LeBron has his work cut out for him this season as he tries to lead the meme team to greatness and put the Los Angeles Lakers on top of the NBA pedestal. While on that journey he’s gonna be cementing his legacy and last night he did it grand fashion.

In a Lakers win over the Portland Trailblazers where we saw the 33-year-old star flirt with his side-chick ole trip dub dropping 44 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists very efficiently. His herculean effort earned him 31,420 career points putting him fifth on the all-time scoring list passing Wilt The Stilt’s 31,419 and was the best scoring performance for a Laker since Kobe’s majestic final game where he dropped 60.

With Wilt Chamberlain out of the way, James is now knocking on the G.O.A.T, Michael Jordan’s door which is next on the list with 32,292. He only needs 868 points this season to jump over the Jumpman, and it’s a safe bet to assume he will do so this season.

The always humble kid from Akron had this to say about the achievement:

“One of the most dominant forces we ever had in our game along with Shaq,” James said of Chamberlain. “One of the greatest Lakers ever to play the game. One hundred point scorer. One of the greatest scorers, rebounders to ever play this game. Multi-sport/dimensional type of athlete. People had never seen something like that in that era. So just dominant in all walks of life, not only just basketball but period.”

“I don’t know how I feel right now, I’m happy we were able to get another win. But any time my name is mentioned with some of the greats that have played this game, I always think back to my hometown, where I come from and how far I’ve come.”

While rings seem to be the standard in crowning greatness, there should be no argument when people put LeBron on the Mt.Rushmore of NBA greats. See the reaction to LeBron’s feat in the gallery below. Oh and to add just how great of a person he is he donated the ball and jersey to his I Promise School.
