Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Chimes In On ‘Joker’ Stairs In The BX

Though Jared Leto did everything in his power to dead Todd Phillip’s Joker film from going into production, he failed and the end result was a mesmerizing performance from Joaquin Phoenix. Not only does it have him in the Oscar conversation, but the film also made some stairs in the Bronx a tourist attraction.

Jared Leto wouldn’t have been able to do that. Just sayin.’

Going from a once dangerous jux trap to a must-see destination, the alley stairs on West 167th in the Boogie Down has become the backdrop in selfies and group photos. But congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has joined the growing list of Bronx natives who aren’t thrilled about people flocking to the place where many a people got got. Speaking to TMZ the right-wing’s favorite new female villain remembers that “When I was growing up, everyone would tell us to stay away from those steps or go with a friend.”

Though she admits that “the Bronx is much safer now” AOC does feel a ways about people now using her home as a prop for the Gram. “Keep your Instagram posts outside of the Boogie Down,” Ocasio says with a smile on her face. “Like, this is for us.”

Still, we don’t expect anyone to actually heed the warnings that Bronx natives have been throwing out there as the Joker‘s now classic scene will only inspire more f*ckery like the post below.

It’s gonna be all fun and games for these tourists until someone gets beaten and robbed for posing brand new on those steps at the wrong time.

Check out AOC continue to infuriate far right-wingers who don’t like being told what they can’t do in “their” Amerika below and let us know your thoughts on the current must-see destination in the BX.

Jared Leto Tried To Get Joaquin Phoenix’s ‘Joker’ Film Deaded

Comic-Con International 2016 - Warner Bros. Presentation

Of all the Jokers we’ve gotten over the decades, from Cesar Romero’s rendition of the classic Batman villain in the 1960s. to more recently, Joaquin Phoenix’s portrayal of the Clown Prince of Crime, Jared Leto’s depiction of the “hipster” Joker in 2016’s Suicide Squad was easily the least memorable and most forgettable. Maybe that’s the reason Leto tried to put the kibosh on Todd Phillips’ critically acclaimed Joker before it could begin filming.

According to The Hollywood Reporter the Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman felt “blindsided” when he learned that Warner Bros. was going to be granting Joaquin Phoenix his own Joker film and not only complained to his agents at CAA, but also tried to have his music manager, Irving Azoff, get in contact with Warner Bros. in an attempt to halt production of the film. Though Leto’s camp denies the allegations, Leto and Azoff have since parted ways.

It would make sense that Jared Leto would feel a way about the Todd Phillips-directed film as it was said he was promised his own standalone Joker film after he complained that a lot of the scenes he filmed for Suicide Squad were left on the cutting room floor. But before he could even muster up a script for his solo Joker adventure, Warner Bros. greenlit Todd Phillips’ vision starring Phoenix, and part of the reason they did so was because of Leto’s lackluster performance as Batman’s greatest villain.

From THR:

At this point, sources say Leto’s days as the Joker likely are over. He will not reprise the role for Warners’ upcoming DC movies Birds of Prey (a spinoff centered on Robbie’s Harley Quinn) or in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, due out in 2021. Says one person involved in the situation: “How do you play the Joker you established following [Phoenix]? It kind of ends his Joker run.”

He will not be missed (no shots).

Ultimately Todd Phillips’ Joker not only ended Leto’s days in white and red makeup but apparently it was enough to end his relationship with CAA as “the actor felt his agents should have told him about the Phillips project earlier and fought harder for his version of Joker. Sources say Leto told his agents that they should stop the rival project, arguing that he wasn’t being treated properly as an Oscar winner (for Dallas Buyers Club).” He’s since left CAA for WME.

Unfortunately for Joker fans though, all signs point to Todd Phillip’s new classic origin story will indeed be a one shot deal as he has no plans of doing a sequel nor does he intend on having Joaquin Phoenix pop up anywhere in the current DCEU. It makes sense as his Joker story takes place in 1981 while current Batman films take place in today’s day and age. So chances are if Robert Pattinson’s Batman does eventually run into the Clown Prince of Crime it will once again be played by another actor hoping to get an Oscar nod. It sure as hell doesn’t seem like it’ll be Jared Leto though.

Joaquin Phoenix’s ‘Joker’ Hauls In Record $93.5M Opening Weekend

Remember when Batman fans thought it was a horrible idea to give fan favorite villain The Joker his own standalone origin film? Well, we were all wrong as not only did Joaquin Phoenix turn in an Oscar worthy performance, but the film set a record for an October opening as it took in close to $100 million this past weekend.

The HuffPost is reporting that the Todd Phillips directed film grossed $93.5 million in the US in it’s debut weekend while raking in $234 million worldwide. Not bad for a film that almost nobody wanted to see done. It’s US tally set the record for an October film release beating out another comic book film fans originally objected to but still supported when it dropped, Venom. The Spider-Man spinoff film shocked everyone when it grossed $80 million in it’s release weekend, thus securing a sequel that fans are now eagerly awaiting. We’re simple creatures.

But now the Clown Prince of Crime is the king of the October box office and Warner Bros. are looking like geniuses for taking the risk.

“This was a much larger result at the box office than we had ever anticipated globally,” said Jeff Goldstein, Warner Bros.′ president of domestic distribution. “Putting records aside, we’re just thrilled that audiences are embracing the movie as strong as they are.”

While many were skeptical of how a standalone Joker film would turn out, word of mouth about Joaquin Phoenix’s mesmerizing performance and police and military officials publicly worrying about potential violence breaking out at screenings due to the film’s violent content certainly helped put butts in theater seats.

Unfortunately for Batman fans, word is that there’s almost no chance that this version of the Joker will ever find himself face-to-face with the Dark Knight as the Phillips himself stated that his Joker will never meet Robert Pattison’s Batman. Just when it seemed like the DCEU was finally going in the right direction, too.

No word yet on whether or not Joker will be getting a sequel but rumors say that there’s a great chance Todd Phillips will refrain from giving this origin story a second chapter. Such a shame.

Did y’all see Joker this past weekend? If you did let us know your reaction to the film in the comments below.

Joaquin Phoenix As ‘Joker’ Screen Test Revealed, Twitter Debates

Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck in Joker

Source: Warner Bros. / Warner Bros.

Joaquin Phoenix is the Joker in the forthcoming origin film from Warner Bros. While we got a look at the actor on set this past weekend, today (Sept. 21), fans got blessed with a tease of the actor in full Joker makeup.

Phoenix stars the title role alongside Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro, while the film is directed, produced and co-written by the Oscar-nominated Todd Phillips.

The video shared by director Todd Philips is called a “camera test with sound” of the Arthur Fleck (Phoenix) character in the film. Described as “a man disregarded by society,” this is who will eventually become the Batman’s greatest and deadliest foe in a film that shows “not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale,” per Warner Bros.

Unless you’re already afraid of clowns, the look doesn’t exactly inspire fear. But it is just a “test” so we can’t be sure this is what the proper Joker will actually look like in the film. In the comics, the Joker’s natural skin tone is chalky white while his treacherous leer doesn’t require any makeup.

Now if ran into Phoenix walking down a dark street dressed like this, he is catching a proper fade, and we’ll ask questions later.

Joker is due in theaters October 4, 2019. Check out Twitter reactions to the reveal in the gallery.
