Ari Lennox Wants off Her Labels: ‘I’m Done and Tired’

l

Ari Lennox may have called it quits as a signed artist.

The “Shea Butter Baby” singer recently provided fans with an update to her album last Monday, saying she only “need 4 more songs and the album done.” The tweet only heightened the anticipation for her sophomore project. Two days later she tweeted that she might have the 10 songs she needed for the album’s completions.

Back in September, she dropped the album’s potential lead single produced by Jermaine Duper Bryan-Michael Cox and Elite, entitled “Pressure.”

After an inappropriate question during an interview, where the interviewer unseemly asked Ari Lennox about her sex life, Ari called it the “icing on the cake.”

She took to Twitter to tell more than 748K followers that she wants “to be dropped from the labels.”

“I’m done and tired,” tweeted Lennox.

Currently, she is signed to J. Cole’s Dreamville label through Interscope Records.

After one fan commented that she won’t be missed if she leaves music, she responded.

“You judgemental self hating parasites wouldn’t last a day as a signed artist.”

One fan stepped in to defend the “BMO” singer listed her certified records including “Got Me, “BMO,” and “Shea Butter Baby,” which were certified gold and platinum respectively.

Lennox’s true supporters hope that her tweet was only a momentarily and not a permanent decision. Ari Lennox is one of many leading women in new-age R&B and fans would hate to see her leave in such a short period.

The Washington D.C. native released her debut album, Shea Butter Baby back in 2019.

A post shared by Dreamville (@dreamville) on

The Hip-Hop world was on notice after J. Cole and his sprawling Dreamville Records team rolled out a series of images highlighting the gang was hard at work on a new compilation project featuring, well, everybody. After months of preparation and a behind the scenes documentary, Revenge Of The Dreamers III is now available and the reaction on Twitter has been robust.

In the early hours of Friday morning (July 5), J. Cole announced the release of the new album via Twitter but not without sharing some thoughts on the process.

“Revenge album dropping 2nite. Know that this album represents community and the unheard unsung artist that fight and bleed daily to be felt. There will be someone you never heard of on this album. Look them up and support them if they resonate with you. A follow goes a long way,” Cole tweeted just ahead of its release.

He added, “Same goes for the producers that go unheard and make beats all day every day hoping to cut through. To the producers and artists that came through but didn’t make the album, you are there in spirit. Thank you for your presence, the energy of those sessions was the most magical.”

Cole ended the line of tweets with, “Thank you to Every artist on Dreamville for allowing me to be a part of your journey and in turn inspiring me and making me proud constantly. I’m proud of y’all for this album.”

On Twitter, several hashtags related to the release of Revenge Of The Dreamers began trending and we’ve scoured them all to get the best reactions which can be seen below.

J. Cole and Dreamville Records Step up to Help Hurricane Florence Victims

The devastation caused by Hurricane Florence is beyond disastrous for people in the southeast part of the country.

One area that was hit especially hard was J. Cole’s hometown of Fayetteville, North Carolina. In response to the devastation, J. Cole and his label Dreamville records have launched a foundation to help raise funds for Fayetteville. Fayetteville is a place notoriously known for high poverty, crime, and general blight.

On Instagram, Dreamville announced the inception of the foundation and sent their condolences to those affected in North Carolina and the surrounding area.

The caption reads: “North Carolina has a very special place in our hearts. The impact of Hurricane Florence has displaced families and has caused unprecedented damage to Fayetteville. The @DreamvilleFDN is asking for help and asking you to share this so we can spread awareness to help the people of Fayetteville.”

This would not be the first time that Dreamville and Cole have been moved support this town. The Dreamville Foundation  came together in 2011, long before Hurricane Florence hit, with a mission of “bridging the gap between the worlds of opportunity and the urban youth of Fayetteville, North Carolina.” In the past, Dreamville has taken great pride in being “the label of the connected age” and one that “genuinely [is] connecting with all people, around the world.” They are among some of the first to step up and promote fundraising and relief efforts for the region. J. Cole has often rapped about his hometown. He even went as far as naming his third studio album after Forest Hills Dr., the street he grew up on back home.

Cole is joined in his efforts by fellow artists signed to Dreamville including artists such as Bas, Omen, Cozz and producers such as Cedric Brown, Ron Gilmore, Elite and more.

To donate to the foundation’s relief efforts, visit http://www.thedreamvillefoundation.org/.
