Bronx Rapper C Blu Free On Bond After Shooting NYPD Officer, Allegedly Used Label Advance To Post Bail

Screen Shot 2022 01 28 at 4.27.16 PM

An up-and-coming, gang affiliated teen rapper from the birthplace of Hip Hop has recently been freed on bond after shooting a NYC police officer and the judge who granted him bond is coming under fire for allowing the gun-toting rapper back on the streets.

16-year-old Camrin Williams aka C Blu was released from Crossroads Juvenile Detention Facility in Brooklyn on Thursday after posting ten percent of a $200K bond, which reportedly came from a record label advance from a deal he recently inked with a subsidiary of Interscope Records. Williams’ family was able to scrape together the $15,000 bail set by the court and then used the teens’ record deal to secure the bond with Judelson, sources said.

Williams is accused of shooting 27-year-old NYC police officer Kaseem Pennant in the leg after refusing to take his hands out of his pockets, which resulted in a scuffle between him and Pennant. Williams was also struck in the groin by the bullet that grazed the officer.

Williams was arraigned on charges of felony assault and criminal possession of a weapon in the Bronx. The budding star could also face an attempted murder charge from the grand jury. The reputed Crip gang member was on probation at the time of the shooting from a 2020 gun possession charge.

Judge Denis Boyle granted Williams a bail, despite the prosecutors’ recommendation that the teen be held without bail until his trial.

NYPD Police Benevolent Association president Patrick Lynch criticized Judge Boyle, saying in a statement, “If anybody wants to know why we have a crisis of violence in this city, or why we’re about to bury two hero police officers, look no further than this disgraceful bail release.”

Lynch added, “This individual chose to carry illegal guns twice. He chose to fight with and shoot a New York City police officer. There’s no reason to believe he won’t do the exact same thing when he’s out on the street tonight. Shame on Judge Denis Boyle for allowing this to happen,” he said. “The people of the Bronx won’t be safe as long as he’s on the bench.”

Screen Shot 2021 08 30 at 12.01.59 PM

Following the mass success of her first apparel collection, Reebok and Cardi B are thrilled to reveal the next chapter of their collaboration with the launch of an all-new apparel and footwear capsule collection this summer. Officially dropping today(August 30), the ‘Let Me Be…In My World’ capsule collection, launching alongside a new Cardi B Classic Leather sneaker, is inspired by Cardi’s hometown of New York City and carries a piece of Cardi’s legacy with every element of design.

Pieces from the ‘Let Me Be…In My World’ capsule collection build on Cardi’s signature outlines and details form her first drop, this time taking cues from the concrete world where Cardi grew up hustling. Featuring dramatic proportions, ranging from tight fits to oversized sleeves with super cropped waists, the range details reflect Cardi herself: cut-outs representing her open personality, bungee details allowing for maximum versatility, and pop-color stitching giving an overall monochromatic look for that little something extra. Cardi’s personality is infused into every inch of the collection, built to carry any hustler from day to night.

In true collaboration, Reebok designers worked with Cardi and her team from start to finish on the ‘Let Me Be… In My World’ capsule collection; from beginning ideation and design stages all the way through to the full creation cycle. Cardi B worked with Reebok designers to bring the story, colors and designs to life from sketch to sample form.

“I was so happy to see the love for my first Reebok apparel collection so I’m really excited to introduce this one,” Cardi said. “This NYC-inspired collection features some of my favorite pieces to wear—from corsets to tracksuits to fly kicks, all inspired by my time and love of New York.”

A Tiger At The Bronx Zoo Has Tested Positive For The Coronavirus

Animals At The Bronx Zoo

It looks like humans are not the only species to be susceptible to COVID-19. An animal at one of the most prominent animal gardens in the world is now recovering from the infection.

Raw Story is reporting that a tiger at the Bronx Zoo has tested positive for Corona. According to the story the property reported the predator had contracted the virus from an employee who was asymptomatic during contact. It is reported that the cat in question started dry coughing which alerted the staff. Thankfully the 4-year-old Malaysian tiger and her sister are expected to make a proper recovery.

“We tested the cat out of an abundance of caution and will ensure any knowledge we gain about COVID-19 will contribute to the world’s continuing understanding of this novel coronavirus,” a formal statement revealed. “Though they have experienced some decrease in appetite, the cats at the Bronx Zoo are otherwise doing well under veterinary care and are bright, alert, and interactive with their keepers”.

The representative also detailed that they do not know how this will affect other animals in the same kingdom at the zoo. “It is not known how this disease will develop in big cats since different species can react differently to novel infections, but we will continue to monitor them closely and anticipate full recoveries.”

US Department of Agriculture is stating that there were no animal cases in the United States prior to this announcement.

Cardi B Responds to Tekashi 69 Saying She’s a Member of the Nine Trey Bloods

Cardi B’s name was mentioned in Tekashi 69’s testimony for his federal racketeering case.

During cross-examination, the “GUMMO” rapper said that she was a member of the Nine Trey Bloods. Aljermiah Mack’s attorney asked the disgraced rapper if he modeled the Bronx rapper’s blueprint to success by including gang members in his video. He denied it.

He also testified that Jim Jones and Trippie Redd were members of the Bloods the first day he took the stand.

Bardi caught wind of the squealing and responded with a clip of KeKe Palmer’s now-viral clip of her unable to identify Dick Cheney.

A rep for the Grammy-award winning rapper told TMZ that Tekashi’s claims “is not true,” but Cardi B let it be known she doesn’t dress up in all red for nothing.

In a since-deleted tweet she responded to a Twitter user saying, “You said it yourself …Brim not Trey .I never been 9 trey or associated with them .

There’s no telling why the tweet was deleted but it’s been well-documented over the years that Cardi is either Blood or been affiliated with them for a long time.

Police Shoot Another Man of Color in The Bronx – Reports Differ On If The Cops Were In Danger

It seems like police shootings of civilians happen so frequently, that citizens of color are numb.

On Sunday, July 7th, a man in 50s was shot by the police after authorities allege he was breaking into a car in the Bronx, in the Highbridge section near W. 166th Street and Ogden Ave. According to the ABC 7, he was taken to Lincoln Hospital and has been listed in serious condition.

There are conflicting reports. Neighbors that witness the shooting say that the man was on the ground and had no weapon.  “When the guy was on the floor, he was still resisting arrest, the cop brought the gun and shot him twice,” reports eyewitness Mercedes Escodo to the news outlet.

However, NYPD Chief Terry Monahan has a different version, that says that his officers were in danger. He said, “Officers have body cameras that were on that capture the suspect saying ‘I have a gun – (expletive) die!’”

The suspect was shot two times by the police and was hit in his arm.

“When you’re not standing there, you don’t see the suspect is armed with a gun. That he says quite clearly, ‘I have a gun… die’, ” NYPD maintains,  “and the officer saying the gun was pointed in his chest. When you’re looking for a distance, you’re not seeing what’s happening in that close quarter.”

A 9mm was apparently found on the scene, but some question that… believing that the NYPD is creating a cover for shooting a man while he was on the ground. Charges are pending.

Kool Keith & Ced Gee Remember Keith Flint. They Recall Making A Hit With The Prodigy

On March 4, Keith Flint of the Electronic music group, The Prodigy, was found dead in his Essex, England home. Tragically, the 49-year-old took his life just one month after his final performance with the group.

The British collective crossed over into the mainstream upon the release of their third studio album, 1997’s The Fat Of The Land. The Prodigy made waves with the album’s singles, “Firestarter” and “Breathe,” both reaching #1 on the UK charts. Eventually, the band’s third single from the project, “Smack My B*tch Up,” found its way to the charts with an alley-oop from a nod to Hip-Hop innovators, the Ultramagnetic MCs.

Ced Gee, TR Love, Mo Love, and Kool Keith Thornton are all listed alongside Howlett as songwriters on the 1997 Dance hit. The chorus vocals placed on the multi-platinum record are sampled from Critical Beatdown‘s “Give The Drummer Some.” In an interview with HipHopDX contributor Dana Scott, Kool Keith and Ced also explain how the recognition and paycheck from another genre came at a really important time in their personal lives.

Keith remembers The Prodigy approaching him. “They had called me up. Liam [Howlett] was a great friend anyway.” Howlett co-founded The Prodigy with Maxim Reality, Leeroy Thornhill, and Flint, who served as dancer and vocalist.

Ced Gee follows, “Let me tell how he got his number. What happened was they were working with the president of Next Plateau, Eddie O’ Loughlin, at the time. He cleared the sample. So Eddie said, ‘Why don’t you just do it fresh with Keith?’ Because I was working at Next Plateau at the time as the head of A&R and we gave them Keith’s number, and that’s how the reach out became. That’s how they started working together.” Next Plateau, who put out Critical Beatdown, had also worked closely with Salt-N-Pepa, Paperboy, and Antoinette, in addition to a roster of Dance acts.

Kool Keith explains how friendship transcended collaboration. “I did shows with [The Prodigy] when the record [The Fat Of The Land] came out. I did one or two shows with them. One of them in New York and another, I think, in Melbourne, Australia. I was backstage with them and [Keith Flint] was a cool person. They had a lot of champagne, a lot of girls and cool Electronic music. That was a nice tour out there with them. And for the first time, it was good that I had real fun with those guys.”

Later, Kool and Ced talk about other records The Prodigy used their lyrics for, and the compensation they received for “Smack My B*tch Up.”

Kool also recalls how the 1997 hit, which he and Ced received platinum plaques for, led to more work. “They had another album [Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned] with the big lips on it where they sampled our stuff, too.” Those compositions included “Wake Up Call” and “You’ll Be Under My Wheels.” As Scott points out, Keith’s “Critical Breakdown” vocal (“I’ll take your brain to another dimension / Pay close attention“) was sampled for The Prodigy’s 1992 single, “Out of Space.”

Ced Gee, recognized for his revolutionary sample techniques, said the re-purposed music was a blessing. “I was under a levy from the IRS at that time. The ‘Smack My B*tch Up’ sample paid off the levy which was about $100,000. After it was over and all corrected, I still had $18,000. That’s how sweet that was. [Laughs] I got that, so imagine what [others] made.”

Keith expounds, “I never had to run around to chase that money, and I was provided for well. And I hope that band didn’t break up, but Keith was such an important person as the lead singer in the band. That’s like Michael Jackson in Jackson 5, Kurt Cobain [in Nirvana], so it’s kind of hard.” Recently, Lord Finesse, another Bronx O.G. whose vocal was used by British Electronic star Fatboy Slim, says he regrets the terms of licensing his material. That appears not to be the case for Ced and Keith. In the late ’90s, Keith was battling against Ruffhouse/Sony Records to release his Black Elvis album, which he discusses at length in the interview.

Outside of remembering Flint and Prodigy, Kool Keith unveils an upcoming release of a new album he recorded with one of The Beatnuts. “I just did an album with Psycho Les that’s coming out. I got Paul Wall, Jeru The Damaja, Erick Sermon and B-Real from Cypress Hill on it. The two Ultramag’ co-founders also confirm upcoming work together.

Cardi B Makes Surprise Appearance at her Bronx High School

Fresh off the announcement of her divorce from Offset and receiving five Grammy nominations, Cardi B started her week with an appearance on CBS This Morning on December 9. She is seen taking pictures with her beloved fans in the street and revisiting the supermarket in the Bronx where she had her first job.

Surprisingly the 26-year-old rapper spoke on her ongoing beef with Nicki Minaj which has been brewing for over a year and reached its peak in September at a New York Fashion Week event that finished with Cardi tossing her shoe and the Queens emcee and leaving with a knot on her head. “It’s unnecessary, but am I ever embarrassed about anything that I do? No,” she said in the new interview.

“I think it’s bad for business. A lot of people like to say all publicity is good publicity. To me, it’s not ’cause that takes away [from] people paying attention to your craft,” Cardi continued. “It makes people not even pay attention to your craft. They just want to see drama.”

After the episode, Minaj called it “something so mortifying and so humiliating to go through in front of a bunch of upper-echelon people” on her Queen Radio show.

Cardi did not mention anything about the Migos rapper, but this was presumably recorded before she even announced their split.

The CBS segment ends with Cardi B visiting her old High School and giving the students encouraging words.
