Questlove to Drop New Book Titled ‘Mixtape Potluck’

It seems like Ahmir Thompson aka Questlove is one of the busiest people in the world. He often claims he has 14 jobs. Not only is he the co-founder of the legendary Roots with Black Thought, but he’s the bandleader for The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, a DJ, producer, designer, music educator, and bestselling and James Beard Award-nominated author. On top of all that, Quest is preparing for the release of his newest book Mixtape Potluck.

Besides music, Quest is a connoisseur of culinary delights. Another one of his books, Something To Food About: Exploring Creativity with Innovative Chefs, explores his love of food. He’s been hosting Food Salons—where the country’s best chefs cook for the star-studded guest list. At these salons, guests are always telling Questlove about their super-special secret recipes, which got him thinking: “Why not design an event where everyone makes that super-special secret recipe, all at once?” And everyone is invited.

According to the description of the book, in Mixtape Potluck (Abrams Image; October 15, 2019; U.S. $29.99; Hardcover), Questlove imagines the ultimate potluck dinner party. He invites more than fifty chefs, entertainers, artists, thought leaders, and musicians (full guest list below) and asks them to bring along their favorite recipes. He also pairs each guest with a song that he feels best captures their unique creative energy.

Quest has a slew of guests of his latest venture including Fred Armisen, Martha Stewart,  Nyesha Arrington Maya Rudolph Tariq Trotter, Ashley Graham, Kwame Onwuachi, Yvonne Orji, Limmy Fallon, Gabrielle Union, Q-Tip, Jarobi White, and many more.

Issa Rae Confirms 4th Season if ‘Insecure’ is in the Works

Fans of the hit HBO series Insecure can relax now. Issa Rae has confirmed that a fourth season of the Black girl dramedy will be returning soon.

“We’re writing it right now…And we’re shooting in September,” Rae revealed.

That was great news because some thought that the show would not come back to HBO. Back in April, HBO programming chief Casey Bloys confirmed that the series would not return until 2020 due Rae’s busy schedule.

“Issa became a big movie star,” Bloys said. “We’re not the first place to deal with this, but when you’re in business with very creative and talented people, there’s a lot more opportunities for people to do things.”

In addition to the update on production, Rae also shared that the upcoming season will have ten episodes. Previous seasons of Insecure only featured eight.

Speaking on the impact of the show, Issa said, “All of them are based off of real people that are in my life and real situations that have happened,” she said. “Also, a lot of the stories come from a predominantly black writers’ room. There are people and stories from there that we just put in the show.”

Rae has become a movie and shaker on the Hollywood scene. Earlier this year, Rae starred alongside Marsai Martin and Regina Hall in Little and is attached to executive produce Robin Thede’s new comedy series, A Black Lady Sketch Show.

In addition to Rae, Insecure stars Yvonne Orji, Jay Ellis, Lisa Joyce, Natasha Rothwell, Y’lan Noel, and Amanda Seales.

‘Insecure’ Co-Stars Confirms Issa Rae’s Engagement

Yvonne Orji and Jay Ellis may have unknowingly spilled all the tea about Issa Rae’s rumored engagement to her longtime boyfriend Louis Diame.

The Insecure co-stars were at the red carpet at the 2019 NAACP Image Awards, and they spoke to Entertainment Tonight, about how they found out about the engagement.

“We’re very excited for her,” Orji said. “We all found out in different ways because we’re all on different text chains,” Ellis added. “We talk at different times, so we all found out at different times in different ways.”

Engagement rumors began swirling last week when Issa Rae graced the cover of Essence Magazine and she was notably spotted with a rock on her ring finger. A couple reports suggested that Issa was spotted on multiple occasions without the ring after the cover was published, however, she was seen rocking it during Mardi Gras which is when she did the Essence photoshoot.

Whether or not they got the approval, we thank Orji and Ellis for spreading the great news.
