Regina Hall Tapped To Host 2019 BET Awards

Regina Hall has emerged from her scene-stealing turn from the Scary Movie franchise to more recent fare like Girls Trip, Little, and the upcoming Shaft film. The veteran actress has also been tapped to host this year’s BET Awards, which will take place in Los Angeles next month.

Hall, who is also one of the stars of Showtimes’s Black Monday, will take the stages at the Microsoft Theater, where Cardi B leads the pack with a whopping seven nominations. Hall is also up for a Best Actress award herself in what looks to be a packed night for several stars in the world of Black entertainment.

Hall will be appearing opposite of Samuel L. Jackson on June 14 which also features the original John Shaft, Richard Roundtree.

The 2019 BET Awards will air live on Sunday, June 23 at 8/7 C.

The Best Dressed Celebrities at Met Gala 2019

The 2019 Met Gala, an annual fundraiser that benefits the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York, was as flamboyant as ever last night. This year’s theme was “Camp: Notes on Fashion,” named in reference to the pivotal 1964 essay “Notes on Camp” by the late cultural critic Susan Sontag.

Without question, this has regularly become one of the most popular events of the year, where high fashion is on full display, and celebrities from every sector of the entertainment industry gather to show the world their grandiose couture as interpretations of the theme of the night.

Dapper Dan Attends his First Met Gala + Designed 7 ‘Camp’ Looks

Dapper Dan vowed to hold Gucci accountable for their recent racist scandal involving a sweater that resembles blackface, and he did so in the best way he knows how.

Dan’s custom designs were on the backs of seven influential celebrities at the 2019 Met Gala in New York City on Monday. 21 Savage, Omari Hardwick, Regina Hall, Bevy Smith, Ashley Graham, Karlie Kloss, and Dapper Dan himself were all sporting the Harlem fashion icon’s designs to represent their camps last night.

Dan told Elle.com that he was addressing the issues in his community through fashion. “People in the community are like, ‘Man, leave them! Leave Gucci and all this stuff.’ They don’t understand. Until I make them understand the beauty of this, the significance of this, the importance of this…”

It wasn’t long ago the Italian luxury brand shut down the designer’s store for using their logo with authorization. Now he has a partnership with a company, and flooded the 2019 Met Gala with his designs, which marked his first Met.

“[Y]ou know who’s walking behind me?” Dan asked rhetorically. “Nelson Mendela’s walking behind me, Jackie Robinson’s walking behind me, Martin Luther King, all of those people are behind me. All those people who’ve suffered the slings and arrows of oppression in those difficult moments.”
