Tyra Banks Breaks Silence After Cringy ‘America Next Top Model’ Clips Resurface

We can collectively agree that society has progressed a lot in the past two decades, so it’s ridiculous to hold someone accountable in 2020 for their views in the early 2000’s.

But that’s what happened to Tyra Banks after old footage of America’s Next Top Model surfaced on the Internet.

The video that caused the most uproar was a clip from season 6 when Banks told contestant, Dani Evans, that she’ll never become a model with a gap in her front teeth. “Do you really think you can have a CoverGirl contract with a gap in your mouth?” she said in the episode, which originally aired in 2006. “It’s not marketable.”

Evans eventually won the contest in 2006 and went on to have a successful modeling career. She went on Instagram live and clarified that the now-viral moment was actually fake.

Rightfully, Tyra Banks apologized because although it was a fabricated moment, it was insensitive. “Been seeing the posts about the insensitivity of some past ‘ANTM’ moments and I agree with you. Looking back, those were some really off choices. Appreciate your honest feedback and am sending so much love and virtual hugs,” she tweeted.

Certain things were socially acceptable in the early 2000’s that isn’t now and that cancel culture police needs to take that into account the next time they want to drag somebody.

Kevin Hart to Star and Produce in ‘Action Scene’ On Quibi

Love him or hate him, Kevin Hart is one of the hardest working comics in the game. He’s always cooking up something. Deadline reports that Kevin Hart will star in the Quibi original series Action Scene, a comedic action-thriller based on the frenetic opening scene of his 2016 concert film Kevin Hart: What Now? His company Laugh Out Loud is producing.

According to the description, “Action Scene will feature Hart playing a fictionalized version of himself on a quest to land the action-movie role of a lifetime. After being rejected for the role, Kevin randomly encounters a leading A-List action movie star. Their meeting inadvertently sets off a chain of events that force Hart to fight his way through a series of over-the-top action sequences with the help of some of Hollywood’s biggest action movie heroes.”

Hart will executive produce in addition to starring. Jeff Clanagan, Laugh Out Loud’s president and Hart’s long-time business partner, will serve as a producer on the project. Dave Becky will also executive produce.

“I couldn’t be more excited to bring big action and even bigger laughs to a new audience through this partnership between Quibi and Laugh Out Loud,” said Hart. “Our teams are working together to create something truly unique and I can’t wait for viewers to see it all unfold.”

Hart joins Thomas Lennon, Steven Spielberg, Darren Criss, Peter Farrelly, Liam Hemsworth, and Tyra Banks who all have projects on Quibi.

Tyra Banks Talks Past ‘Rivalry’ With Naomi Campbell

Tyra Banks and Naomi Campbell both have long-lasting, influential careers that opened doors for many Black and brown girls behind them in the model industry. But there was a point in time when the super models didn’t see eye to eye.

Tyra recently sat down with the Wall Street Journal to discuss an array of topics and her past feud with Naomi, revealing that she doesn’t even consider it a “rivalry.”

“It wasn’t a rivalry, and I’m very sensitive to that word because a rivalry is with two equals to me, whereas one was very dominant,” Tyra explained, as seen in the video below. “She was a supermodel and I was just some new girl that got on a plane from Paris, and was studying fashion in magazines at a fashion library. I had a very painful early days in Paris. As much as I was booking every single fashion show, people didn’t know I was going home at night crying my eyes out because a woman that I was looking up to seemed like she just didn’t want me to be there, and was doing everything in her power to make me go away.”

She explained that she didn’t understand why Campbell behaved the way she did at the time, but she now understands the industry was pitting them against each other.

The adult me understands that she was reacting to an industry that was all about a token,” she said. “But when I came on the scene — Naomi, look out! There’s a black girl that’s going to take your spot … Only one spot available.”

Sounds familiar?
