Rakim Releases First New Project In 15 Years ‘G.O.D.’S Network (Reb7rth)’, New Video “Love Is The Message”

unnamed 78

Hip-hop legend Rakim is breaking new ground with his new project, G.O.D.’S NETWORK (REB7RTH), by flexing his skills both on the mic and behind the boards.  Widely lauded as the best lyricist of all time, The God MC himself is blessing the culture with the next step in his historic career; and his first project in 15 years.  G.O.D.’S NETWORK (REB7RTH) is now available.

“I feel like the battery in my back has been reenergized,” Rakim said about his new project, which arrives nearly four decades after the release of his classic debut with Eric B., Paid In Full. Since then, he’s continued to shape the landscape and culture of hip-hop as we know it, inspiring rising artists with his hype live shows and incredible studio albums. And while he’s produced some of his previous work—notably “Don’t Sweat the Technique,” “Juice (Know The Ledge),” and “Paid In Full”—this feels like new territory for the 18th Letter, whose production and scratching talents are nothing short of remarkable.

G.O.D.’S NETWORK (REB7RTH) is proof that Rakim is truly one of the most special artists we’ve known, not just in hip-hop, but all of music. You can tell he feels that level of praise when speaking about the genesis of the album. “Having the ability to showcase my talents behind the boards, coupled with the elite lyricism the world already knows and gives me infinite praise for, alongside some of the best talents to ever do it is truly a blessing and for that I am humbled,” Rakim declared.

The album’s first single, “Be Ill,” is the perfect introduction, as it pairs Rakim’s raw rhymes and head-nodding production with slick guest features from Kurupt and Masta Killa. Elsewhere, Rakim slows it down for the soulful “Love Is The Message,” which features Nipsey Hussle, Planet Asia, Louis King, Snoop Dogg, Sally Green, Kobe Honeycutt, and the LA Grand Choir. And then there’s the chest-thumping “International,” a straight-up slapper with hard-hitting rhymes from Kool G. Rap, Tristate, and Joell Ortiz.

Happy Heavenly 48th Birthday To Mobb Deep’s Prodigy

prodigy

The Mind Squad would like to send a supreme posthumous born day salute to Albert “Prodigy” Johnson, the lyrical half of the “Infamous” Mobb Deep. In 2017, the Hip-Hop community lost Prodigy in what is recognized as a freak hospital accident, with reports stating that P passed after choking on an egg while hospitalized for his sickle cell condition.

Prodigy will forever be remembered as one of NYC’s powerhouses of the rap game, repping the Rotten Apple in feuds within the five boroughs (Jay-Z, Tru Life) as well as cross country (Tupac, Crooked I). With his QB partner Havoc, the Hempstead, Long Island native inherited the crown as the king of NYC crime rhyme from his elder Queens comrade Kool G. Rap and upheld his position for more than two decades. P’s solo career was stellar in its own right, with his H.N.I.C. trilogy serving as one of the best solo efforts from an NYC artist that came from a group since Busta Rhymes.

Salute to Prodigy on his what would’ve been his 48th born day and his contributions through his art and music will maintain his relevance in Hip-Hop forever. R.I.P.!

Prodigy’s Posthumous Debut “The Hegelian Dialectic 2: The Book of Heroine” is Slightly Better Than the Predecessor (Album Review)

Prodigy was a 42 year old MC, songwriter & record executive from Hempstead, New York who emerged as 1/2 of the seminal duo Mobb Deep. He’s also cemented himself as a solo artist by dropping 8 solo albums, with my favorites being H.N.i.C. (Head N***a in Charge) & the Alchemist-produced Albert Einstein. Unfortunately, Bandana P would pass away after choking on an egg in the summer of 2017 & his estate is commemorating him by putting out a sequel to the last full-length he put out The Hegelian Dialectic: The Book of Revelation. It was his most political solo effort that he’s done up to that point, but the production was lacking in my opinion. That being said: I did go into Prodigy’s first posthumous outing hoping that it’d be an improvement over the predecessor considering the singles we got over the summer.

“You Will See” kicks off the album with a spacious yet groovy banger talking about crashing your face with the Henny Rock whereas “Walk Out” takes a more boom bap route thanks to DJ Premier talking about bringing smoke to him. “Opium Poppy” dives into ghoulish territory sonically to deliver some mid sex bars just before the luxurious “Angel” is R&B/hip hop duet with Faith Evans about his widow Kiki.

Meanwhile on “We Shine”, we have a piano trap ballad with an awkward auto-tuned hook telling the story of getting a text from his girl at 11:30pm saying they going out & balling out when they pull up to the spot at 1am leading into the vibrant & celebratory “Dope”. It all returns to the boom bap as Big Daddy Kane comes into the picture for “You Don’t Want It” to spit some hardcore bars leading into “I Heart You” embracing the spacey trap sound to talk about Kiki once again.

Remy Ma tags along for the eerie trap banger “Overdose” making them catch the Holy Ghost while the song “Escapism” is a dustier cut talking about getting the fuck outta his face if you ain’t talking real shit to him. The penultimate track “Flirting with Death” with Big Noyd finds the 2 getting flirtatious over a synth-heavy beat & “The Other Side” is bittersweet to say the less with it’s solemn trap instrumental along with the lyrics about dying together.

The Hegelian Dialectic: The Book of Revelation was one of the weaker albums in Prodigy’s catalog in my opinion but as far as the sequel goes, I happen to like it just a bit more. Some of the lovey dovey trap shit can be hit or miss with me personally with all respect to Bandana P, but love how they kept the guests to a minimum as opposed to being on nearly every track & none of the the boom bap cuts miss whatsoever.

Score: 6/10

[WATCH] The Estate of Prodigy of Mobb Deep Drops Video for “You Will See”

The Estate of Prodigy of Mobb Deep Drops Video for “You Will See”

The Estate of Prodigy has released the late Hip-Hop icon’s new video for the single “You Will See.” The single and video are the first Prodigy releases since his untimely death.

The video is a compilation of old and new video material, live performance clips, and music video clips that feature Prodigy in some of the most iconic scenes from his life and career.

“You Will See” is the first of three singles that will lead up to the Prodigy’s forthcoming full-length posthumous album, The Hegelian Dialectic Volume 2: The Book Of Heroine. The new single features the vocals of Berto Rich, who in conjunction with The North Star Group, delivers the production.

“Five years ago our family suffered an immense loss,” the Estate of Prodigy said in a statement. “The music that Prodigy left behind is extremely precious to all of us. We felt the need and responsibility to hold on to it until we had the proper foundation to complete what he was working on and release it to the world. We hope his fans will enjoy and support our efforts as we move forward with this very personal and emotional process. ‘You Will See’ a treasure of new music from Prodigy, no doubt indeed.”

Prodigy left a large number of recordings behind, including the next two parts of The Hegelian Dialectic trilogy. The first volume of the very introspective project, The Book Of Revelation, was released in 2017 by the artist himself, in which the renowned MC expressed his socially conscious and politically driven reflections.

Prodigy addresses men’s emotional issues in the second and upcoming volume, The Book Of Heroine, by candidly addressing his personal strife with drugs, relationships, and the constant distractions brought by passion. Later this summer, the new album will release.

The new video comes weeks after Prodigy’s catalog returned to streaming services.

Due to legal conflicts between the Estate, which the late artist’s family maintains, and his former associates, the famed MC’s work was taken from all streaming sites in 2019, depriving millions of admirers of the infamous MC’s solo efforts. Prodigy is one half of one of the best Hip-Hop groups of all time, Mobb Deep. Alongside Havoc, the two made their debut in 1993 with Juvenile Hell, then returned in 1995, with the bonafide classic album The Infamous. The two stand as one of the most influential groups in rap history. Prodigy’s solo releases carried the same level of quality, throughout the H.N.I.C. saga and more.

Albums like H.N.I.C. and The Bumpy Johnson Album are once again available for streaming on services like Spotify, Tidal, Apple Music, and others, thanks to the management of L. Londell McMillan of The NorthStar Group and a new distribution deal with ADA, Warner Music Group’s independent services and distribution arm. The albums will also be available for purchase on the websites of all digital retailers.

“We are extremely thankful to all the fans for understanding the circumstances that our family had to professionally control at a time of grief, and for the kind words of encouragement we received from many of you” says a representative of the Estate. “We would also like to thank the community of hip hop artists who came together to help us assemble Prodigy’s last projects. The music belongs to all of you and we are glad we can make it available again and forever.”

Prodigy’s Solo Catalog Returns to Streaming Services, Estate Announces New Album

All real Hip-Hop fans rejoice. Starting today (April 20), the solo music catalog of Prodigy of Mobb Deep will be available to all DPS and digital stores in its entirety, the Estate of the late rap icon announced.

Spotify will host a unique Fans First engagement on May 20 to commemorate the return of Prodigy’s music to the platform. Fans will get first access to exclusive merch. The estate has also mentioned new music releases. A new single, “You Will See,” will drop on June 10. The single introduces a new album, The Hegelian Dialectic: The Book of Heroine.

“In life and death, Prodigy’s impact on the culture and music remains transcendent. It’s an honor to work with the Estate of my friend Prodigy, and others who knew and loved Prodigy, as we protect his legacy and return his catalogue back to the marketplace worldwide. So much more to come.” says Chairman of The NorthStar Group, L. Londell McMillan, Esq.

Cat Kreidich, President, ADA Worldwide, added: “Prodigy is a once-in-a-generation rapper. It’s hard to put into words the impact he had on the world – his sound completely changed the game and influenced so many that came after him. His legacy will live on forever through his music and we’re grateful his Estate has entrusted ADA to bring his iconic catalog back where it belongs – with his fans.”

On June 20, 2017, Prodigy passed after a lifelong battle with sickle cell anemia. While battling the disease, Prodigy managed to craft one of the most historic careers in rap history behind a special delivery, elite wordplay, and one of the most loyal fan bases in history. Prodigy had only released Chapter One of the trilogy named The Book Of Revelation a few months before his untimely death. The project, which is based on the teachings of philosopher Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, depicts how humans go through many stages and facts of life. Each chapter delves into a different aspect of defining life experiences. When studying the Book of Revelation, Prodigy thought about how politics, morals, and spiritual problems affect people’s lives. The project finds the genre-defining musician imparting wisdom and expertise, demonstrating significant growth and maturity compared to his Infamous and Murda Music days.

In The Book Of Heroine, Prodigy wrote about the obsession with love, sexual pleasure, narcotics, and emotions. He also examined the vulnerable side of his identity in this album, reflecting on the powerful effect that emotional events, passion, and infatuation played on his existence and the effort to maintain control of his ego and thuggish sense of confidence. It’s an introspective and brave effort in which Prodigy shares his flaws with his followers without fear of being judged. It’s an open record that encourages complete self-acceptance.

The Book Of The Dead, the trilogy’s third and final volume, will be released sometime in 2023, following the publication of Mobb Deep’s new album, which is now in the works. Havoc will be in charge of the project’s production and creation of the album.

Mobb Deep’s Prodigy To Be Honored With Queensbridge Street Named “Prodigy Way”

Screen Shot 2021 12 17 at 7.51.35 AM

According to a report from Complex, Prodigy of the “Infamous” Mobb Deep will be celebrated four years after his untimely passing with a street naming ceremony in Queensbridge, which will be known as “Prodigy Way”.

41st Road and 12th Street, which is situated in the Queensbridge Houses in Long Island City, New York, will be recognized as Prodigy Way after a recent approval from City Council.

Prodigy, who was actually a native of Hempstead, Long Island, hung out in Queensbridge with QB native and the other half of Mobb Deep, Havoc, during their high school days at High School of Arts & Design. The co-naming of the block was pushed by Havoc, Big Twin, and Prodigy’s Fathers Alive in the Hood non-profit organization created to honor his legacy.
