Terrence Williams, Brother of CMB Co-Founders Baby And Slim, “Mysteriously” Freed From Life Sentence

According to a recent report from NOLA.com, the half-brother of Cash Money Records CEOs Bryan “Baby” Williams and Ronald “Slim” Williams, who has spent more than two decades behind bars on a life sentence, was released from prison earlier this month with no legal explanation.

Terrence “Gangsta” Williams, a member of the Hot Boys gang, allegedly gave up some of the seed money for the CMB label from dealing heroin and planning hits in the 90s until busted by FBI wiretaps. Court records show that Williams was plotting to kill a group of New York dealers and steal the heroin which was getting shipped to them through the mail, but the feds intercepted the package and foiled the murder plot. Williams ultimately pleaded guilty to engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise and solicitation for murder and was sentenced to life plus 20 years.

On January 3, U.S. District Judge Ivan Lemelle re-sentenced Williams to 27.5 years. Federal law requires judges to “state in open court the reasons for the imposition of a particular sentence,” but judges will get rid of a defendant’s cooperation info and its benefits by sealing records, hearings, and transcripts.

“Defendants want their cooperation secret for their safety; prosecutors want it secret so that defendants are not afraid to cooperate,” U.S. District Judge D. Brock Hornby wrote in a 2019 article. “Pity the journalist or citizen who seeks to know with certainty what happened at a particular federal sentencing.”

According to court documents, Williams started cooperating with the government after his arrest, but it didn’t immediately help him, in 1999, federal prosecutors filed a “5K motion” to reward him for his substantial assistance in securing guilty pleas from co-defendants.“ As prosecutors explained, “The defendant also provided information to the state authorities regarding a number of murders and urged persons who had witnessed murders to come forward as witnesses and contact the others.”

Williams possibly could have given some essential info to the government that helped secure his future release. U.S. Sentencing Commission data shows one in six defendants was compensated for cooperation in 2020, about twice the national average.

Killer Of Mississippi Rapper Lil Lonnie Gets Life Sentence

Screen Shot 2021 07 08 at 11.19.03 AM

According to a confirmed report, the man who was convicted of shooting and killing Mississippi rapper Lil Lonnie was handed down a life sentence for his role in the 2018 murder.

Hinds County Circuit Judge Faye Peterson told Monya Davis that she took no pleasure in sending him to prison for the rest of his life. “Not only was one young man’s life taken, but your life was taken. It’s a very tragic circumstance to see two very young people lose their chance and opportunities,” she said. “What is most unfortunate and scary about this is it made no sense. You didn’t know each other. You hadn’t met each other. Just in a random, impulsive moment, someone lost their life.”

Davis’ two co-defendants, Marshun Carr and Antoine Carr, both have trials in September and November.

22-year-old Lil Lonnie was killed in a drive-by shooting in his hometown of Jackson, Mississippi. He is most recognized for his Zaytoven-produced track RoadRunnin”.

Life Sentence For Man Convicted Of Weed Possession Upheld In Mississippi Court

Screen Shot 2021 05 17 at 2.48.53 AM

Despite marijuana legalization being at the top of the conversation list on Capitol Hill, there are thousands of men and women that are currently serving time for marijuana convictions. There are some who will never be released from prison, even with some states having legal recreational marijuana within the past few years.

According to the Associated Press, Allen Russell’s life sentence was recently upheld in Mississippi, which was related to a weed charge he was convicted of in 2019. Russell was arrested with less than eight ounces of marijuana, but more than an ounce, which sentence carries a maximum of up to three years, a $3,000 fine, or both in Mississippi.

In Mississippi, a life sentence without parole can be handed down if a person spent a year in prison on two separate felonies and one of those charges has to be a violent offense. Even though the marijuana charge is not considered a serious crime, Russell’s previous convictions for two home burglary charges and a weapons possession charge was enough to land Allen behind bars for the rest of his life as a “habitual offender”.

One of the judges who voted against the ruling is a Black woman who wrote that the decision to uphold Allen’s life sentence undermines the true duty of the court.

“The purpose of the criminal justice system is to punish those who break the law, deter them from making similar mistakes, and give them the opportunity to become productive members of society,” Mississippi Court of Appeals Judge Latrice Westbrooks wrote. “The fact that judges are not routinely given the ability to exercise discretion in sentencing all habitual offenders is completely at odds with this goal.”

Screen Shot 2020 10 14 at 6.54.44 AM

TMZ has reported that notorious murderer Eric Menedez has been moved to isolation in the prison facility he’s being held in after a marijuana delivery was sent to him.

The R.J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego has moved the parent killer to the Administrative Segregation Unit on Monday after the package arrived, which was intercepted by prison officials.

Menendez was sent to ASU, but officials are still trying to find the source of the bud, if it was for Menendez’s personal use or if he was going to a distributor of the contraband.

Eric and his brother Lyle are both serving life sentences for killing their own parents back in 1989.

An artist affiliated with Lil Wayne‘s Young Money recording label imprint was sentenced this week to life in prison on a double murder conviction. Widner “Flow” Degruy was handed down the sentence on Tuesday (May 14) in connection to a 2015 Memorial Day case.

NOLA.com reports:

Degruy, 27, was convicted April 8 of two counts of second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit second-degree murder. A jury deliberated about 1 ½ hours before convicting Degruy, a rapper signed to Lil Wayne’s Young Money record label, in 11-1 verdicts.

He pleaded guilty earlier to obstruction of justice and conspiracy to obstruct justice in the case.

In an impact statement read before Criminal District Judge Tracey Flemings-Davillier handed down Degruy’s sentence, the brothers’ mother, Sherry Strauss, said her children were her “everything.”

Assistant District Attorney Irena Zajickova read the statement on Strauss’ behalf as she sat in the gallery of the courtroom.

“In the beginning, I hated you,” Strauss wrote. “I considered you a monster. Today, I no longer hate you. I feel sorry for you.”

The Bishop brothers – 18-year-old Kendred, who went by the name Kirby, and 22-year-old Kendrick, a rap artist signed to Degruy’s record label who performed as MuddyCupBuddy – were gunned down inside a black Kia sedan in the 4800 block of Bright Drive around 5:45 a.m. on May 25, 2015.

The outlet adds that Degruy carried out the slaying because he believed the brothers stole $8,000 from him girlfriend’s car according to prosecutors, but Degruy put the slayings on his co-defendant, who received 20 years for cooperating and put the crime on Degruy.

Supporters of Cyntoia Brown have been rallying on her behalf to see that she have her life sentence for murder commuted, considering Brown says she was a victim of sex trafficking.  With the news that Brown will soon see Freedom, many on Twitter are reacting to the news.

Brown, now 30, was at the center of an August 2004 case where she agreed to meet and have sex with a 43-year-old man in Nashville, Tenn. After traveling to his home, Brown shot the man and returned stolen goods and the man’s vehicle to her pimp. Brown admitted to committing the crime after initially stating she acted in self-defense although that was thrown out in court. She was sentenced to 51 years to life in prison, serving 15 years thus far before today’s announcement.

In that time, supporters of Brown and anti-sex trafficking advocates have rallied around her in a bid to gain her freedom. Brown has also rehabilitated her life to a satisfactory degree, which was noted by Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam in his statement. Brown will go free in August of this year, which has garnered an explosive reaction by celebrities and others via Twitter.

We’ve collected some of the reaction to Cyntoia Brown’s clemency below.
