Prosecutor And Judge In G-Dep 1993 Murder Case Now Want Him Freed

Screen Shot 2022 10 11 at 5.45.19 PM

Twelve years ago, former Bad Boy Records signee Trevell “G-Dep” Coleman walked into a NYPD precinct to confess to a murder he allegedly committed in October 1993. Detectives doing their due diligence, matched up the story by Dep to an unsolved homicide. Ultimately, Coleman was convicted of second-degree murder in 2012, but now the prosecutor in the case has asked for the “Special Delivery” rapper to be released from prison.

The Assistant D.A. who prosecuted Dep thought that the 15 to life prison sentence was too harsh, so they reached out to City University of New York clemency attorney Steve Zeidman, who reportedly wrote to the judge in G-Dep’s murder case advocating for the rapper’s release following his clemency application.

It was also revealed that retired Judge Michael Obus submitted a separate letter to New York State Governor Kathy Hochul supporting G-Dep’s release. Hochul has reportedly made the clemency application process easier but has only granted clemency to 10 people since she took office over a year ago. Robert Henkel, the victim’s brother, said Hochul should be “kicked out of office” if she gives clemency to G-Dep.

Trump Pardons Almost 150 People Including Lil Wayne, Kodak Black in Final Hours of Presidency

Screen Shot 2021 01 20 at 8.56.31 AM

Even though there are many people that are happy to see Donald Trump leave office, there are almost 150 people, including rappers Kodak Black and Lil Wayne, who are ecstatic that Trump was the 45th President.

Political allies, high-profile entertainers, and convicted, non-violent drug offenders were all on Trump’s clemency list in his last hours as President of the United States. Former White House Steve Bannon and Trump fundraiser Eliot Broidy were among those in his political circle to have their sentence commuted. Rappers Lil Wayne, who had yet to be sentenced on a federal gun charge, and Kodak Black, who falsified documents to obtain a firearm, were also both cut loose on Trump’s last day in office.

Lil Wayne pleaded guilty last month to his second gun charge since 2009 and faced up to a decade behind bars. Kodak, whose real name is Bill Kapri, had already served over a year in federal custody before being granted a presidential pardon.

Other high-profile, political sentence commutations include former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, former Arizona Rep. Rick Renzi, and friend of Jared Kushner, Ken Kurson.

Anthony Levandowski, a former Google engineer who was sentenced to 18 months in prison for stealing self-driving car technology for Uber, was also granted a pardon.

The president personally made every decision on who to approve and who to reject, according to a source involved in the process told AP.

Snoop Dogg Attempts to Convince Trump to Pardon Death Row Co-Founder Harry-O

Screen Shot 2021 01 19 at 8.19.32 AM

Even though Snoop Dogg has publicly criticized Donald Trump during his entire term in office, the Doggfather is making a last day, ditch effort with a couple of activists to lobby for Trump to pardon Death Row Records co-founder, Michael “Harry-O” Harris before he leaves office.

Criminal justice reform advocate Alice Johnson, who is working with Snoop and had her own life sentence commuted by President Trump, says, “The president knows about it. I’ve spoken with Ivanka [Trump] and I’ve spoken with Jared [Kushner], and I’ve been told that President Trump is aware of the case and has been reviewing it. I’ve spoken to [White House chief of staff] Mark Meadows about it, and he said he’d take a look at it. The president knows how much this case means to me… In reviewing Michael Harris’ case, his story, and what he’s gone through, this is such an unfair case…He should have been home a decade ago. I really felt for this man. I am very hopeful that he will be home before the end of the Trump administration.”

Weldon Angelos, a music producer who was pardoned by Trump last month, says Snoop made Harry-O’s release a possibility when Snoop contacted him after Christmas in an attempt to get Harris’ sentence commuted.

“Snoop brought this case to me, and I brought Alice Johnson on board to help it with me, and she brought it to the West Wing,” said Angelos. “In the past, the president has given her the ability to select cases. And she doesn’t get [clemency for] all of them…But with Mr. Harris, she is not taking no for an answer.”

Harry-O is doing federal and state time for his connection to an 11-state drug trafficking ring with ties to a Colombian cartel. His current, projected release isn’t until 2028.

Child Sex Slave Cyntoia Brown Released From Prison After Being Sentenced to Life at 16

Cyntoia Brown was finally released this morning after serving 15 years of a life sentence for the 2004 murder of a Nashville real estate agent who bought her for sex.

Brown was granted clemency and released from the Tennessee prison on parole.

She was only at the tender age of 16 when her life was taken from her by the system. Earlier this year, Governor Bill Haslam made the rare move to commute her sentence before his term ended.

Executive clemency in Tennessee is “an act of mercy or leniency providing relief from certain consequence of a criminal conviction,” according to the state’s Executive Clemency Unit.

Cyntoia Brown’s case garnered national attention from A-list celebrities like Rihanna and Kim Kardashian.

In a statement released through her attorney, Brown says she would be using her second chance to help abused women and girls.

“While first giving honor to God who made all of this possible, I would also like to thank my many supporters who have spoken on my behalf and prayed for me,” Brown said just days before her release.

“I’m blessed to have a very supportive family and friends to support me in the days to come. I look forward to using my experiences to help other women and girls suffering abuse and exploitation.”

Supporters of Cyntoia Brown have been rallying on her behalf to see that she have her life sentence for murder commuted, considering Brown says she was a victim of sex trafficking.  With the news that Brown will soon see Freedom, many on Twitter are reacting to the news.

Brown, now 30, was at the center of an August 2004 case where she agreed to meet and have sex with a 43-year-old man in Nashville, Tenn. After traveling to his home, Brown shot the man and returned stolen goods and the man’s vehicle to her pimp. Brown admitted to committing the crime after initially stating she acted in self-defense although that was thrown out in court. She was sentenced to 51 years to life in prison, serving 15 years thus far before today’s announcement.

In that time, supporters of Brown and anti-sex trafficking advocates have rallied around her in a bid to gain her freedom. Brown has also rehabilitated her life to a satisfactory degree, which was noted by Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam in his statement. Brown will go free in August of this year, which has garnered an explosive reaction by celebrities and others via Twitter.

We’ve collected some of the reaction to Cyntoia Brown’s clemency below.
