The Hoodies Drop Kid Capri-Produced Single ‘I’m Hot”

New York-based duo The Hoodies released their What Pressure Makes‘ EP earlier this year. The six-track project served as a prelude to the duo’s forthcoming full-length album Hidden Gems, produced entirely by the legendary Kid Capri. The group is comprised of brothers E-Class and Young Poppa.

Today they drop their 1st single “I’m Hot“. The track showcases the group’s impressive wordplay, sharp flows, and unrivaled ferocity over Capri’s hard-hitting production and DJ scratches. Here’s what the fellas had to say about the record:

Our new record ‘I’m Hot’ was inspired by the golden era of hip-hop. It’s 50th anniversary of hip-hop so why wouldn’t we bring back that nostalgic boom bap feel? The creation process was incredible. Kid Capri threw some mixes and scratches right there on the spot to compliment the beat, while Pop and I delivered with the witty, punchline, metaphor heavy lyrics. ‘Hidden Gems’ will be the album to restore that classic hip-hop feel back to culture. Real concepts, real lyrics, real life

– E-Class

The creative process is always easy when we’re working with Capri. As far as the inspiration goes we wanted to highlight our rapping ability and Capri’s legendary dj skills. The title for this song is self explanatory, this is a song you put on when you feeling yourself. When you’re winning

-Young Poppa

If you’re in the New York area, The Hoodies will be headlining SOB’s on November 16…Let us know what you think of their latest record in the comments!

Today in Hip Hop History: Slick Rick Dropped His Last Album ‘The Art of Storytelling’ 24 Years Ago

slick rick

On this day in Hip Hop history, Slick Rick released his final studio LP, The Art of Storytelling.

Produced mainly by DJ Clark Kent and Kid Capri, this album featured guest verses from Redman, Rev Run, Outkast, Nas, Raekwon, and Snoop Dogg.

Critically the album has been hailed as the only proper sequel to his breakthrough debut album, The Great Adventures Of Slick Rick. Due to continuous run-ins with the law, the public could never fully experience Slick Rick as an artist. For the same reason, the world will never know what his outstanding ability and outspoken persona could have done for Hip Hop culture. What is apparent is that when the master storyteller has the time, he can pen and deliver a masterpiece.

The Art of Storytelling was Slick Rick’s most commercially successful album, peaking at #8 on the Billboard 200 chart and #1 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop charts. The album even went gold during its first week of sales. True to the title, the album contains narratives that could only be crafted by the pen that scribed the famous “Children’s Story.” And although he has not strayed away from his signature rhetoric, The Art of Storytelling shows improvement and Slick Rick’s ability to stay relevant as far as his style blending with the famous sound of the time. This album deserves all accolades and is a proper farewell to Slick Rick as an album rapper.

Happy 56th Birthday Kid Capri!

kid capri 456cm061311

Today, the illustrious and world famous DJ Kid Capri celebrates his 56th birthday!

David Anthony Love Jr. aka Kid Capri has had one of the most successful careers in Hip-Hop history. As a pioneer in the mixtape game, Capri has inspired generations of rappers thus creating an imprint in the game that few can measure up to. He’s worked with an army of OG’s including KRS-1, Heavy D, and Slick Rick. He’s also worked with game-changers like Jay Z, Ghostface Killah, Styles P, and Big L. Capri was also the sole DJ on HBO’s long-running, Def Comedy Jam, which recently hosted its 25th Anniversary to which the Brooklyn-born/Bronx-raised DJ served as the honorary man on the 1s and 2s.

The new generation of Hip Hop wouldn’t be where it is without Capri blazing the trail.. The Prime Minister of mixtapes set the standard for every upcoming rapper or producer that wanted to put their music out there for the public. He was and still is one of the game’s original influencers.

The Proud Family revival is in full swing and brings in celebrity guests weekly. On the episode that will premiere this Wednesday (April 13), legendary DJ Kid Capri will make his animated debut. Kid Capril will be the DJ for Penny Proud’s frenemy, LaCienega’s quinceañera.

A synopsis for the episode reads:
LaCienega’s quinceañera has finally arrived and she has very specific plans for it. When her cousin, LaBrea, an ugly-duckling-turned-beautiful-swan, threatens to steal her thunder, LaCienega grows increasingly hostile, which threatens to alienate Penny and her crew. Meanwhile, Sunset deals with her sister, Melrose’s, passive-aggressive critiques of every aspect of the quinceañera by choosing increasingly extravagant and expensive party elements that threaten to break the bank.
