Cities With Higher Black Populations Rely On Fines & Tickets For Revenue

Female police officer discusses traffic laws with driver

Being Black in America has always had it’s challenges but as more statistics move the forefront we are seeing concrete proof of cities and states in America not only targeting Black people for existing but it’s also for profit.

In a new study published by Raw Story, cities with higher Black populations are more likely to fine and ticket Black drivers for minimal offenses as a way to draw up revenue for the city. According to the findings, the cities seemingly most reliant on fines are the ones with the highest percentages of black residents being served by law enforcement that is whiter than its community.

The cities studies also point out that these instances are happening all over the country, including in progressive states like California. In 2010, Inglewood, California’s population was 43% black and 23% white, but its law enforcement agency was flipped, at nearly 40% white and 16% black. The city generated nearly 5% of its revenues from fines, more than double the average city in California; but this isn’t the first time that polices like this has made national news.

In 2014 after the senseless murder of Mike Brown at the hands of then-police officer Darren Wilson, reports began surfacing that the Ferguson’s troublesome practices involved illegally targeting African American residences for revenue generation, a practice known as “policing for profit.” Police aggressively fined residents, primarily black residents, without much consideration of whether doing so enhanced public trust or safety.

According to the report by the US Justice Department, “The harms of Ferguson’s police and court practices are borne disproportionately by African Americans, and there is evidence that this is due in part to intentional discrimination on the basis of race.”

But how do we fix it?

For years the ideology was to hire more Black and brown police officers to patrol neighborhoods that mirror their ethnicity, but even that has proven to be detrimental to residents of color, with most Black and brown officers hiding and participating in the crimes of their white counterparts under the guise of “blue brotherhood.” Look at the egregious behavior of the Black officers in Baltimore, Maryland; half of the police officers who participated in the beating death of Freddie Gray and cover up weren’t white and the area they were patrolling was home to a few officers in the case, yet the outcome was still the same.

So what is the real plan?

Until America really decides to get real and honest about the laws and origin of a lot of their policing policies, we will continue to have this issue. America has a problem with Black people and we need to be honest about it so that the issues stemming from that hatred can be corrected. In addition, a criminal justice overhaul, along with the appointing of African Americans, who serve in the community, in prominent positions in the police force, oversight  committee, judges and the office of prosecutors are also cited as ways to help curb the abuse of power when it comes to the police and African Americans across the country.

Although the ideas and the efforts will help, the reality is that until America has it’s true day of atonement in regards it’s horrific treatment towards it’s Black children, we will continue to die at it’s cruel, white hands.

Cardi B is under fire after she went on social media and admitted to drugging and robbing men. The new mom hit up Instagram Live to defend her rise to fame, but what she had to say didn’t go over well.

“N*ggas must’ve forgot, my n*gga, the shit that I did to motherf*cking survive,” she said. “I had to go strip. I had to go, ‘Oh yeah, you wanna f*ck me? Yeah yeah yeah, let’s go back to this hotel.’ And I drugged n*ggas up and I robbed them. That’s what I used to do. Nothing was motherf*cking handed to me, my n*gga. Nothing!”

The internet is now accusing Cardi of being a rapist and comparing the Bronx rapper to Rick Ross, who got dragged after rapping out about drugging women in his song “UOENO.” See reactions below.

The Charges Against Jussie Smollett Are Dropped

In a breaking story, prosecutors have dropped its felony charges against Empire actor Jussie Smollett. The move happened this morning (March 26), following an arrest late last month under the suspicion of making false reports regarding an incident in Chicago, Illinois on January 29. The actor was released on $10,000 bond.

“After reviewing all of the facts and circumstances of the case, including Mr. Smollett’s volunteer service in the community and agreement to forfeit his bond to the city of Chicago, we believe this outcome is a just disposition and appropriate resolution to this case,” the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office said in a statement. According to The New York Times, the official report did not shed light on possible new evidence or information.

Former Cop Jason Van Dyke Sentenced To Prison For The Killing Of Laquan McDonald

A member of the 36-year-old actor’s legal team, Anne Kavanagh, told the press, “Today, all criminal charges against Jussie Smollett were dropped and his record has been wiped clean of the filing of this tragic complaint against him. Jussie was attacked by two people he was unable to identify on January 29. He was a victim who was vilified and made to appear as a perpetrator as a result of false and inappropriate remarks made to the public causing an inappropriate rush to judgment. Jussie is relieved to have this situation behind him and is very much looking forward to getting back to focusing on his family, friends, and career.”

Smollett has not yet spoken to media in this developing story.

Erica Mena’s Ex-Boyfriend Cliff Dixon Gunned Down As He Arrives To His Own Birthday Party

Labor Day Weekend Celebration Hosted By Michael B. Jordan + Karrueche

Cliff Dixon, ex-boyfriend to Erica Mena and close friend to NBA star Kevin Durant, was reportedly gunned down in the parking lot of SL Lounge in Atlanta, where he was supposed to celebrate his birthday. According to reports, the gunman escaped on foot and detectives have only a “vague description” of what he looked like.

“Clifford Dixon, 32, had just arrived at the SL Lounge located at 4186 Buford Highway around 1:17 a.m. when he was shot several times while standing in the parking lot,” Fox 5 Atlanta reports. “Paramedics rushed the victim to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he later died.”

So far, their investigation looks bleak.  “Chamblee Police brought in a K-9 to try to track the gunman’s scent, but no arrests have been made. Investigators are hoping security cameras from the strip mall will help them identify the shooter,” the site goes on to state. “They said it might be difficult because some of the cameras at the Little Saigon strip mall aren’t working. They also have been having trouble getting credible information from the witnesses at the scene.”

Dixon dated Love & Hip Hop reality star Erica Mena for about 10 months, according to TMZ. The site also recalls last October when the “rocky” couple got arrested after they got into a fight.

Now engaged to fellow reality star Safaree, Erica Mena has moved on but took the time to post her condolences via IG Stories. “We all deal with so much. You dealt with a lot,” she said. “I’m so sorry this happened, you didn’t deserve this. Rest in forever peace. Watch over your blood sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and your mommy. I know they are so broken right now.” May he rest in peace.

Bronx Woman Facing Manslaughter Charge After Illegal Butt Injections Lead To Patient’s Death

Whalesca Castillo, butt injections, 2011 arrest

Source: Splash News

Although the procedure can be extremely dangerous, butt injections have never been more popular than they are now. One woman, Whalesca Castillo, had been capitalizing on the trend by running an illegal plastic surgery operation in the Bronx. Sadly, her shady career allegedly ended up killing someone and Castillo now faces a manslaughter charge.

The New York Times details her history of arrests in connection to illegal butt enhancements:

“She had been arrested twice before, charged with providing illegal silicone injections in the Bronx to women who wanted to enhance their figures. One client had texted Whalesca Castillo after a procedure, complaining of leaking blood and liquid from her buttocks and legs, court documents said. Ms. Castillo replied by suggesting her favorite method for stanching a wound: ‘Buy some crazy glue and put it on.’ Ms. Castillo pleaded guilty in September 2011 to charges related to operating a fly-by-night plastic surgery clinic without a medical license, and served a year in federal prison. Released on probation, she was caught doing silicone enhancement procedures again in March 2014 and was sent back to prison for nine months.”

This week, Ms. Castillo was arrested again in connection to the death of a woman by the name of Lesbia Ayala.

The site continues, “Ms. Ayala, 48, died on June 17 of an embolism after the police say Ms. Castillo pumped silicone into her buttocks and thighs. Ms. Ayala had traveled from her home in Philadelphia to Ms. Castillo’s apartment on Seward Avenue for the illegal procedure.” Castillo’s lawyer Robert Osuna stated he could not comment, as he had not yet read the criminal complaint. “We’ll have to see what the charges allege,” he said, according to The New York Times.

As for how she ran her underground operation, Castillo reportedly received “hundreds of bottles of silicone gel shipped in the mail from the Dominican Republic, marked in Spanish as ‘silicone for hair’ or ‘for body massage,’” the site states. She was charged with manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, and the unauthorized practice of a profession.

Oh Word?: Van Jones Says It Was Kim Kardashian Who Got The ‘First Step Act’ Prison Reform Bill Passed

Van Jones is a really big fan of Kim Kardashian and her sudden obsession with prison reform. In fact, he credits the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star for getting the First Step Act passed this week.

When approached by TMZ, the CNN commentator told paparazzi “If Kim Kardashian had not gone to the White House and talked to Donald Trump, we would not have passed this bill.” See the rest of his message up top.

The Act, passed by the United States Senate with a vote of 87-12, is the start of fairer sentencing for drug offenses and more. The Washington Post gives a quick synopsis for those who aren’t up to speed:

“The bill would help prisoners earn good-time credits so they could reduce their sentences for good behavior. It would offer them more training and work opportunities, as well as the chance to earn money that would go into escrow accounts to pay for post-release expenses. It would bolster programs to help prisoners reintegrate into society after release. It would ban shackling of pregnant women. The legislation would relax some mandatory-minimum sentences, mainly on drug charges, and give judges more discretion to sentence people to less than the mandatory amount of time if they are convicted of nonviolent drug crimes. It would also address the ongoing outrage that more than 2,000 people have languished behind bars because of an unjust disparity in sentencing rules between charges for crack and powder cocaine offenses, a distinction that disproportionately hit African Americans.”

Who would have ever guessed Kim K. would one day put her selfie stick down long enough to attempt to influence our nation politically? Do you agree she’s the reason this bill passed, or is Jones tripping?

Investigation Into ‘Surviving R. Kelly’ Screening Threat Leads Police To Chicago

R Kelly In Concert - Detroit, MI

Last week, a NYC venue screening a documentary about R. Kelly‘s alleged sexual abuse was evacuated 20 minutes in, after someone threatened to shoot up the spot. Following some investigation, authorities say the threat came from someone with a Chi-Town area code, which begs the question: did Kelly set it up?

“Law enforcement sources tell TMZ … NYPD’s person of interest is a man with Chicago’s 773 area code. We’re told cops aren’t ready to release the man’s name yet, and it’s unclear if he has any direct connection to Kelly,” TMZ states.

Surviving was screened Tuesday night at NeueHouse in NYC, but 20 minutes into it someone made a phone threat,” the site recalls. “The male caller said someone was in the audience with a gun and would open fire if the screening continued. The venue was immediately evacuated.”

R. Kelly’s ex-wife Andrea Kelly, who was in the building for the screening, went on record to say she thinks he’s in some way associated with the threats against NeueHouse. “I can’t speak to what he would or would not do because I don’t know what his mindset is right now,” she told Variety at the time. “But I would say that I don’t believe in happenstance, I don’t believe that anything is a coincidence. I do believe that in some shape, form or fashion it is connected to him. Now, whether he orchestrated it or not, that I cannot say. But I just do not believe in coincidences. Of all the theaters, of all the nights, of all the premiers, it happened with us.”

Surviving R. Kelly will premiere on Lifetime in January 2019.

Berman said, “As alleged in the Indictment, the defendants planned and carried out the violent armed robbery of a marijuana dealer in the Bronx. In the course of that robbery, 25-year-old Jonathan Tuck was killed.” Adding, “Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of the NYPD and the Special Agents of our Office, five defendants now face charges for their role in these terrible crimes.”
