ICYMI: Rihanna’s Foundation Donates $15M to Climate Justice Organizations

Rihanna

Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation commits $15 Million dollars to climate justice organizations.

The grants will go to eighteen organizations across the U.S. and Caribbean. Most partnering organizations are led by women, youth, Black, Indigenous, people of color, and LGBTQIA+ communities.

Ri Ri and The Clara Lionel Foundation recognized the need and partnered with Jack Dorsey’s #StartSmall initiative to make this happen.

The Barbados-born singer and National Hero made the announcement on Tuesday, Jan 25, that the hefty donation includes organizations such as, Climate Justice Alliance, the Indigenous Environmental Network and the Movement for Black Lives.

“Climate disasters, which are growing in frequency and intensity, do not impact all communities equally, with communities of color and island nations facing the brunt of climate change,” the “Umbrella” singer said in a statement.

The foundation is committed to building partnerships that elevate, support, and fund people on the frontlines of the climate justice movement.

Obama Gracefully Slams Trump’s Response to Coronavirus Pandemic, Climate Change Warnings

Our forever President Barack Obama has been playing the back seat as Donald Trump has been singlehandedly undoing everything he worked hard to accomplish for eight years.

The Los Angeles Times reports that the Trump administration weakened fuel economy standards which rolls back key Obama-era U.S. effort against climate change.

The new rule “comes from both the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Transportation and would allow automakers to ignore ambitious gas mileage and emissions requirements put in place by the Obama administration in 2012,” according to the New York Post.

“Before, automakers were required to produce fleets that would average 55 miles per gallon by 2025. The new Trump-era rule will bring that number down to 40 miles per gallon by 2026.”

Well it looks like Obama has seen enough and took to Twitter to drag Trump without actually naming him. “We’ve seen all too terribly the consequences of those who denied warnings of a pandemic. We can’t afford any more consequences of climate denial,” Obama wrote on Tuesday.

Former Vice President Joe Biden, who looks like he’s going to be the Democratic presidential nominee, “has vowed to toughen fuel economy standards in order to ensure 100% of new sales for light- and medium-duty vehicles will be electrified,” the Post reports.

This seems like a scene straight out of Shonda Rhimes’ hit series, Scandal, starring Kerry Washington.
