[WATCH] The Fugees’ Pras Denies Tekashi 6ix9ine Comparisons, Says He’s Not An FBI Informant

prassuesnewyorkpostmillion$davidsugarman

Last week, Pras of The Fugees was found guilty of 10 charges in an international conspiracy in federal court in Washington, D.C. Rumors of the famed rapper becoming an FBI informant began to surface. Still, the recently convicted felon says despite the verdict, he is not an FBI informant.

While speaking to TMZ, Pras said, “I was never in the past, present, or future, an FBI or CIA informant.” He doubled down on his stance by asking where people could find the paperwork to see he was not an informant. He said, “This is not a Tekashi 6ix9ine situation, respectfully speaking.”

According to an AP News report, Pras “was accused of funneling money from a now-fugitive Malaysian financer through straw donors to Barack Obama’s 2012 reelection campaign, then trying to squelch a Justice Department investigation and influence an extradition case on behalf of China under the Trump administration.”

McDonald’s Issues Apology After A Restaurant In China Bans Black People

McDonald's Restaurant Located In China Posts Sign Banning Black People

With the arrival of COVID-19, which is currently taking its toll countries around the world, there has been an unfortunate increase in xenophobia and racism.

US fast-food chain McDonald’s had to issue an apology after a video surfaced on Twitter after one of its restaurants located in Southern China had a sign up saying Black people were not allowed in the restaurant. It specifically stated:

“We’ve been informed that from now on, Black people are not allowed to enter the restaurant. For the sake of your health consciously notify the local police for medical isolation, please understand the inconvenience caused.”

Africans in the southern metropolis of Guangzhou had issues with law enforcement after local officials announced there were a cluster COVID-19 cases in a neighborhood with a large migrant population.

The fast-food chain apologized, and a spokesman for McDonald’s claimed the sign was  “not representative of our inclusive values.” In an emailed statement, McDonald’s said it took the down the notice immediately and temporarily closed the location “immediately upon learning of an unauthorized communication to our guests.”

Africans also revealed to the AFP that they have been forcibly removed or evicted from their residences by police and refused service at restaurants, shops and have been the subject of mass testing and random quarantines. If you search Africans in China on Twitter, you will find a bevy of tweets displaying the poor treatment of Africans in the country due to COVID-19.

These are truly some sad and trying times. When Donald Trump put his racism on full display by calling the coronavirus the “Chinese virus” fueling violence against Chinese Americans in the country, many came to their defense. Now Blacks are asking for the energy to be reciprocated.

We detect no lies in the tweet.

Coronavirus Deaths In U.S. Passes 4,000, Surpassing China

White House Coronavirus Task Force Holds Daily Briefing

Source: Win McNamee / Getty

The numbers of coronavirus cases and COVID-19 diagnoses are swelling at a rapid rate, signaling that the situation remains extremely dire. The latest tally finds that the United States has surpassed China in the number of deaths related to the virus.

On Tuesday (March 31), the White House task force assigned to tackle the coronavirus situation offered a sobering projecting of 100,000 to 240,000 even with the best practices of social distancing and stay-at-home orders cropping up around the nation, according to a report from NPR.

The spiking numbers seem to reflect this potential projection as over 4,000 people in the nation have died, besting Spain, France, and the United Kingdom, based on the most recent numbers. Italy has reported over 12,000 deaths as the European nation is still struggling to slow the spread.

The United Nations has unveiled a plan that they believe could halt the spread of the virus, and a rights expert for the organization is suggesting lifting sanctions on North Korea, Venezuela, and Iran. The UN’s position is that lifting sanctions could address the crumbling of international health systems and to combat rising reports of hunger in nations shut out from trade and goods.

The United States is now reporting nearly 190,000 cases and the economic outlook domestically and in Europe has shown signs of improving soon. Adding to this, China, which once was depicted as the epicenter of the spread, seemingly contained the coronavirus explosion but is now reporting an uptick in new infections after reporting people who are asymptomatic.

Details of the United Nations report can be read by following this link.

The coronavirus has affected many worldwide in regards to health, but according to Adidas the virus isn’t only affecting people’s health—it’s also affecting their bottom line.

According to published reports, German sportswear brand Adidas has warned business activity in China has fallen dramatically in recent weeks, citing a material negative impact from the coronavirus outbreak. Adidas announced that its sales in China were down 85% on the same period last year, with the fall starting after it closed its stores for the Lunar new year on January 25, resulting in many stores remaining closed.

“Our business activity in Greater China has been around 85 percent below the prior year level since Chinese New Year on January 25,” the Bavarian company said in a statement.

Adidas said it faced “a significant number of store closures” on its roster of 500 owned stores and 11,500 franchises in China, while many fewer people are shopping at those which remain open.

According to Forbes, Adidas rival Puma also warned that a shutdown of more than half of its stores in China could hit first quarter sales and profits, despite announcing it beat its 2019 earnings.

The impact of the outbreak is not limited to China – Britain’s biggest carmaker, Jaguar Land Rover, has resorted to flying over car parts from its Chinese suppliers in suitcases.

“Despite coronavirus’ spread to some other countries in the region, we have not yet observed any major business impact outside of Greater China,” Adidas said.

Looking ahead, the sportswear giant said it could not predict how big the impact of the virus would be on its annual results, but executives plan to provide an update when the company releases its 2019 earnings data on March 11.

The Beef Between The NBA & China, Explained

BASKET-NBA-CHN

The NBA was shoring up what looked to be a fruitful union with China, but now tension between the sports league and the communist nation looks to be growing by the day. After Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey tweeted in support of Hong Kong protestors, he set off a flurry of debate regarding free speech and the price of going into business with an entity known for its rigidness.

To explain the rift in full, back on October 4, Daryl Morey tweeted out support of the Hong Kong protestors who are combating an extradition bill and other restrictions that infringe on the civil rights of those living in the semi-autonomous region. This tweet came just ahead of the Los Angles Lakers and the Brooklyn Nets on the schedule to play in China this week.

NBA commissioner Adami Silver offered not one, but two statements to satisfy China’s concerns around Morey’s tweet. Silver did say that he would not find Morey in contempt and won’t limit free speech in the league. Morey’s tweet, which has since been deleted, angered Chinese leaders to the point of upending a potential windfall of money. China’s state-run CCTV has since suspended all NBA pre-season games after issuing a statement.

“We’ve noticed NBA commissioner Adam Silver’s response to the inappropriate remarks by Houston Rockets GM Morey. We are strongly unsatisfied and opposed to Adam Silver’s claim of supporting Morey’s rights of having freedom of speech,” CCTV5, a sports channel, said Tuesday on its social media page. “We think any remarks that challenge national sovereignty and social stability are outside the category of freedom of speech.”

The Rockets were one of the more popular teams in China, due in part to the team drafting now-retired star Yao Ming number one overall in 2002. Yao, now the chairman of the Chinese Basketball Association, has not made any public comments about the rift despite his history with the Rockets and the NBA.

The fallout from Morey’s tweet has been substantial, with community events, ticket sales getting halted, and Chinese celebrities shouting down the Rockets and the NBA in the process.

The league, which enjoys a strong following due to the aforementioned Yao’s time with Houston, also has a $1.5 billion deal to stream games with the Tencent media company, with the service blacklisting Rockets games. Further, the CBA is no longer collaborating with the Houston Rockets. Despite the apologies from Silver and from Rockets superstar James Harden, China does not appear satisfied with the team’s effort for repairing the issue.

Several Chinese fans were also ousted from pre-season games featuring the Washington Wizards and the Philadelphia 76ers for holding fans that read “Free Hong Kong.” Additionally, a bipartisan group of lawmakers has urged the NBA to pull out of China, including the hosting of a training facility in Xinjiang, where it is thought that around a million Chinese minorities, the Turkic Uyghurs, are being held in so-called “re-education camps.”

To underscore the seriousness of things, a CNN reporter attempted to ask Rockets players James Harden and Russell Westbrook if they will continue speaking out on social issues, most especially in the light of Morey’s Hong Kong utterance. An NBA spokesperson shut down the questioning promptly.
