Michael Rapaport Criticizes Meek Mill’s NBA All-Star Performance, Labels Him a ‘Trash Rapper’

Actor Michael Rapaport is known for his raging antics on social media ranging from modern-day reality television, hints of politics, and Hip-Hop culture. Considered to a portion of the Hip-Hop community as a type of “hip-hop head” the Higher Learning actor recently took to Twitter to criticize Meek Mill’s NBA All-Star weekend performance by subjectively denouncing Mill as being a top Philadelphia rapper and labeled him as being a “trash rapper.”

This past weekend, Meek Mill opened the performance portion of the 2019 NBA All-Star game show at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina by performing a set of hit songs including “Intro,” “Uptown Anthem, “Dreams and Nightmares (Intro),” and the Drake infused “Going Bad.”

Rapaport’s rant starts off with a rhetorical question regarding Meek Mill’s hearing sense, accusing the “100 Summers” rapper of rhyming off beat. “Meek Mill have a hearing problem? Because he rhymes off the actual beat on everything he’s on. Literally off the beat, like NoFlow,” he tweeted. “Meek Mill, great story. Great look. Trash rapper. Sorry,” he continued.

Rapaport took a trip down memory lane and used Meek Mill’s now squashed rap beef with Drake as an example, claiming his response track “Wanna Know” was not a competitive response and was an opportunity for the Philly rapper to showcase his lyrical vigor. “Where I’m from, if you get dragged by DRAKE & don’t respond you’re & always will be WACK. At least make it competitive. Re-Up. Something. People catching feelings, cause you know I’m right about Meek Mill,” he tweeted. “When I say “respond” I mean with something you can listen to more than once. Responding doesn’t mean “gobble, wobble, throttle.”

He continued the rant with a self-apology and joked about his hopes of seeing Meek Mill pursuing his success by rapping on beat in the future and eventually responded to replies with a subjective claim stating Mill presently does not rank in the top 20 list of rappers from Philadelphia. “I’m sorry seeing Meek Mill perform entirely off beat AGAIN, this time at the All Star Game, got me in my feelings (Pun intended). I started by saying he’s gonna do good things in real life, just hopefully on beat,” tweets Rapaport. “Anyone of you Hip Hop Bloggers, writers and Podcasters mad about about my #MeekMill reality never been to the Rooftop. Not one of you cornballs know what Im talking about,” added Rapaport. He continued, “Meek Mill isn’t even a top 20 Rapper from Philadelphia & you guys are mad at me?”

The actor went on to attempt to validate his hip-hop card by sharing a photo of himself with the renowned Philly rapper, which features his ex-girlfriend Nicki Minaj accusing critics of defending Meek Mill and not having knowledge about one of Hip-Hop earliest female MCs, Sparky D. “All Hip Hop Bloggers & Culture Critics Who Know all about Hip Hop but have Know Idea who Sparky D is, not one of you is on my level with any of this shit, he added. ” According to Rapaport, not even his own wife agrees with his opinion about the rap status of Meek Mill. “My Wife doesn’t agree with my opinions on #MeekMill either & I just told she can kiss my ass also.”

While Rapaport’s sole opinion may be that of a “classic hip-hop head,” there is a great chance hip-hop fans who are core supporters of modern day rappers such as Meek Mill will beg to differ. This notes what the modern day hip-hop lover considers to be lyrical and also raises the question if rapping on beat molds a modern-day lyricist. There is also a side of classic hip-hop lovers who may find qualms with Rapaport’s suggestion, considering the areas of mass appeal and record sales as factors of hitting any top rapper list.
