Roddy Ricch’s “The Box” Secures No. 1 Song in the Country Over Justin Bieber’s “Yummy”

In what is the first major chart battle of the decade, Roddy Ricch hits number one on the Billboard Hot 100 with “The Box” beating a strong effort and fan support from Justin Bieber for his return single “Yummy.”

The California upstart’s single is up two spots to the top, powered by 68.2 million U.S. streams and 11,000 digital song sales in the week ending Jan. 9. Billboard reports Bieber brought in 29.3 million streams and an additional 71,000 in sales.

Not only has Ricch secured the top spot on the Hot 100 but his Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial album has returned to the No. 1 spot on the chart. He will be the first artist this decade to hold down both spots.

Bieber acknowledged Ricch’s achievement after he was slammed for tactics last week to assist his aim for the top of the charts.
