Pop Smoke is the New Self-Proclaimed King Of NY: “This Ain’t No Trashanova”

Pop Smoke has given himself the crown to the Big Apple.

New York City apparently has a new king in the rap game and he is from the birthplace of both Biggie and Jay-Z. So it’s only right. Right? Pop Smoke hopped onto the scene last year and straight into his Goyard bag. It doesn’t look like he’s planning on stopping anytime soon.

The Canarsie rapper dropped “Welcome To The Party” in April 2019 and it instantly became a summer hit. The single led to his mixtape Meet the Woo, which featured the party follow up, “Dior.” By the end of 2019, Pop Smoke racked up features with Nicki Minaj Travis Scott, Calboy and Lil Tjay. His standout track, “Gatti,” from the Jackboys album currently sits at 69 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.

With a successful 2019, he is putting the game on notice to start the year. The 20-year-old rapper took to Instagram recently to promote a new song, which he self-proclaims himself as the King of New York. Tekashi 6ix9ine was the last Brooklyn rapper to self-proclaim the New York throne.

He raps, “She love how I talk, she know that papi outside, she knows I’m the King of New York. Ni**as saying they outside, send the addy we gon’ slide. Air it out when we arrive.”

In doing so, he allegedly takes a shot at Flatbush rapper, Casanova. His caption reads,

” YALL OLD NI**AS BETTER PACK IT UP. THIS AINT NO TRASHANOVA SH** NO SCARY L SH** YALL KNOW THE WOOS RUN THE CITY. YALL NI**AS COULD NEVER BE ME.”

Casanova is notorious for the phrase “we outside” and apparently, Pop Smoke apparently has something to say about that in his new song.
