We’ve heard stories before about seeing the potential in others and motivating them to grind, but Young Thug and Lil Baby’s story takes the icing on the cake.
Before his start in the rap game, Lil Baby has been previously transparent about his lifestyle before the fame. The 26-year-old rapper stated that he was heavy in the streets after being released from jail, but barely dibbled and dabbled with his lyrical pen.
“I was in the neighborhood and he was like, ‘What you doing in the neighborhood?’ I was like, ‘You already know what I’m doing,” the “My Turn” rapper said.
“So he was like, ‘Okay, how much money are you gonna make today?’ I was probably going to make like $7K, maybe $10K. He just went, ‘I’ll give you that – just go to the studio.’ Sh*t went like that,” the rapper shared.
While social media users didn’t believe the accuracy of Baby’s story. In an interview with The Breakfast Club, Thugger shares exactly why he decided to help Baby get out of the streets sharing that he didn’t want to see Baby go back to jail.
“I was just…I just didn’t want him to go back to prison,” the Slime City rapper stated. “I was scared for him to go back to jail ’cause he had just did a bid. He got straight outta jail and went straight back to the same neighborhood. The same house that the police bust and locked him up. He went right back to the same house. It was a spot. I think I was more scared for him, of like prison.
“Before rap, he was getting a lot of likes on his Instagram, and people like… He had nice ass captions. Like bro, you should try to make a song,” Thugg continued. “Just show him the life, took him a few times everywhere. You know? He started seeing, this sh*t kinda easy. We grew up together, too. It makes it seem like it’s easy if he seen me do it.”
Fast forward to today, Lil Baby, whose real name is Domonique Jones, stands as one of the most influential artists in the rap game. With six multi-platinum singles, three Grammy Awards, and four top-selling albums, Lil Baby is unstoppable. Check out the rest of the clip below.
Thugger is undoubtedly on a different plateau at this point in his career. The YSL CEO is fresh off his release of his latest album, Punk. The 20-track project features Drake, Travis Scott, Doja Cat, J. Cole, Gunna and more.
On Monday, the “London” rapper made his debut on The Breakfast Club morning show. When host Charlamagne asked Thug about his long-awaited debut on the syndicated morning show, Thug brought it back to his reaction after the infamous Birdman incident at the Breakfast Club.
In addition, Charla reminded Thug that he previously said Rich Homie Quan would have a longer career than Slime.
“I will say, I made one of the worst hip-hop predictions about ten years ago when I did VladTV,” said Tha God’s Honest Truth star. “They asked me who gon’ be around longer, Rich Homie Quan or Young Thug? I said, probably Rich Homie Quan. Clearly, I was wrong.”
When asked how he felt about that prediction, Thug simply responded, “You was wrong.”
Charlamagne Tha God did compliment Thug’s distinctive sound, calling his voice an “instrument.”

For almost 50 years, Saturday Night Live has hosted some of the top names in musical talent. Over the weekend, rapper Young Thug joined the ranks of musical icons who have made appearances on the long-running sketch show. And he wasn’t alone.
Young Thug brought out special guests Gunna and Nate Ruess for a performance of “Love You More,” which was a collaboration from Thug’s new album Punk. He also performed “Tick Tock,” a hit with a punk vibe for which Travis Barker and Blink-182 joined him to perform.
Young Thug’s SNL appearance coincides with the release of his second studio album, Punk, which featured collabs with some major industry heavy hitters. In addition to Gunna, Nate Ruess, and Travis Barker, the album also features Post Malone, Drake, Future, A$AP Rocky, Doja Cat, and J Cole, as well as recently deceased artistsJuice Wrldand Mac Miller.
SNL was not Young Thug’s first on-screen performance with Barker, however. The two teamed up for an NPR “Tiny Desk” performance earlier this year.

A few months ago, entertainers like Soulja Boy and Chris Brown were upset after hearing that their verses were taken off of Kanye West’s highly anticipated album, DONDA. In this interview, Thugga shared how he stayed on West’s album after being asked if the Chicago rapper tried to make him rap in the gospel direction, would he take the instruction.
“You can’t instruct me … You can’t give me instructions, and I am saying that humbly. I understand music. I understand life. I understand everything,” the rapper explained. “I understand the way the universe works, so you don’t have to talk to me about certain shit. I feel like n*ggas like Kanye West, and Jay-Z, and fucking Quincy Jones, and James Brown, and if Michael Jackson and Prince were here … Them n*ggas understand that about me. They trust me.”
It’s no secret that Kanye West made many changes to his album before its unexpected official release. When asked about being potentially left off the album, Thugga shared the consequences he told West if his verse was left off the single, “Remote Control.”
“What n****s don’t know about Kanye West is he’s a real n***a. He’s a billionaire, and all that shit is cool, but in real life, he could survive in the trenches. If he go to the trenches, the jungle, he could survive. He a real n***a,” the Slime Season rapper began. “I just hit Kanye like, ‘Bro, if I ain’t on the album, we are not speaking.”
Well, it seems as though Kanye cared about being on speaking terms with Thugga as we can see the rapper’s verse stayed on the album. Do you think Chris Brown and Soulja Boy could have pulled the same stunt?
