Wyclef Jean Speaks Out Against Trump’s False Statements About Haitian Immigrants: ‘Stop These Racist Messages and Accusations’

wyclef jean

During the presidential debate between Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump sparked a fire online when he spread the false claim that Haitian immigrants in Springfield, OH, are eating dogs and cats in the neighborhood.

The statement was immediately debunked by debate moderator and ABC news anchor David Muir, but Trump pushed back, stating he saw it on TV. Further fact-checking has shut down the claims, but Haitian star, rapper, and producer Wyclef Jean is speaking out on behalf of those in Ohio with TMZ.

“One of our greatest assets in America is that we are a country of immigrants,” Jean said. “I speak from the heart when I say, Haitian people living in the U.S. are good neighbors and good people. We care about humanity. We care about our neighbors.”

He added, “On behalf of Haitian Americans, I ask that we stop these racist messages and accusations. Put our hands out in peace and say thanks for being my neighbor. We need to respect one another and vote based on policies and facts, not crazy talk. And we need to shake hands with one another and be thankful we are part of an America for all.”

[WATCH] Wyclef Jean: Fugees’ Remake of ‘Killing Me Softly’ Made Original Songwriter $8M

killingmesoftly2

In a recent episode of the 85 South Show, Fugees co-founder and solo artist Wyclef Jean discussed the financial impact that The Fugees had on the original songwriter of their hit “Killing Me Softly”, Lori Lieberman. Jean said that their version of the song amassed millions for Lieberman, who wrote and performed the song in 1972. The version that gained the most notoriety at the time was Roberta Flack’s version, which was recorded in 1973.

Wyclef stressed the importance of owning copyrights to songs to ensure financial success while speaking about Lieberman. Lieberman was still known to have a hard time receiving financial compensation and credit for the song’s global success.

On this date in 1994, crew members Wyclef Jean, Pras, and a young, talented Lauryn Hill, known as The Fugees, formulated their first album, Blunted On Reality, on Hip Hop indie imprint Ruffhouse Records.

Not as familiar to Hip Hop heads as their follow-up smash sophomore album The Score, Blunted On Reality did not receive commercial success their first go around, yielding only 12,000 copies sold in the first two years. After the release of The Score, that number jumped to 125K.

With Clef’s hands in every aspect of production, there were very few times when the Haitian national wasn’t behind the boards during the production of this album. Other producers include Salaam Remi, Brand X, Khallis Bayyan and even Pras.

Salute to the trio for bringing us this slept on classic!

Fat Joe, Jelly Roll, and Wyclef Jean Unite for Healthcare Transparency Advocacy Event

Jelly Roll, Joe, Wyclef

In a powerful display of unity, hip-hop icons Fat Joe, Jelly Roll, and Wyclef Jean joined forces with Power To The Patients to host an intimate event at Hamilton Live on Wednesday evening (Jan. 10). Attended by approximately 500 Congressional leaders and government officials, the event aimed to champion a more affordable and equitable healthcare system through enhanced price transparency.

Fat Joe admired Jelly Roll’s musical prowess during the gathering, commending his unique blend of rap and country. Backstage, he shared that he repeated Jelly’s hit song “Need A Favor” in 2023. The collaboration was part of their effort to advocate for healthcare transparency and affordability.

Wyclef Jean took to the stage, rallying members of Congress to chant “Power To The Patients” and urging them to press President Joe Biden to prioritize healthcare transparency.

The event shed light on the injustices created by hospitals and insurers concealing prices, hindering competition, and enabling the industry to avoid accountability for overcharges and price gouging.

Fat Joe and Power to the Patients have been pivotal in raising awareness on Capitol Hill regarding the pressing need for comprehensive healthcare price transparency legislation. In April 2023, Fat Joe met with Congressional leaders and the White House to advocate for enforcing price transparency rules neglected by many hospitals nationwide.

In September 2023, Fat Joe and Rick Ross, Busta Rhymes, French Montana, Method Man, and Chuck D unveiled a compelling public service announcement (PSA) with Power To The Patients. The PSA called for elected officials to commit to price transparency, promoting honesty, affordability, and equity in healthcare.

Their collective efforts extended to New York City, where, in June 2023, Mayor Eric Adams signed the Healthcare Accountability and Consumer Protection Act, establishing the nation’s first Office of Health Care Accountability. The act allows New Yorkers to compare hospital costs for the same services, marking a significant step towards healthcare transparency.

wyclef jean

Wyclef Jean had his first-ever stay in the hospital, but he is delivering a message to fans that he is doing ok.

Speaking with TMZ, Wyclef Jean stated he felt numb on the right side of his face and went to a doctor immediately. That doctor then sent him to the ER.

On Instagram, Wyclef wrote, “Sometimes we forget our body is our temple. Be back soon.”

Wyclef stated Dr. Waleed Lashin let Wyclef know the hospital stay and numbness resulted from exhaustion and stress-related. Wyclef is now back at home, and more tests are scheduled.

Wyclef Jean has always had his hands on many different things.  Now, the former Fugees member is taking his talents to the automotive industry.  On Monday (March 6), Jean showed off his new electric vehicle in an Instagram post.  The caption read, “U S A premier Attucks Apex AP0 welcoming my Electric SuperCar…. Little Haiti We Up!!!!”

His new vehicle is the Attucks Apex AP0, a two-seat lightweight supercar.  It is said to be the lightest electric supercar in the world, weighing less than 2,700 pounds.  The car was designed in the United Kingdom but built in the United States.  Jean called it his dream car on Twitter.  It was first revealed at The Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island Country and Golf Course this past weekend in Florida.

Though the Attucks Apex has been released, consumers won’t be able to purchase it until the Winter of 2024.  The electric vehicle is set to be priced at $350,000 with a high speed of 190 miles per hour.  The car has the capacity to reach 60 miles per hour in 2-3 seconds!  The “Sweetest Girl” rapper continues to help improve his birth nation, Haiti.  With this new vehicle, Jean has plans to have its headquarters right in Little Haiti, Miami.

Wyclef spoke about his new supercar on Twitter.

“Attucks Apex AP0 EV Supercar also marks the launch of my new platform, #AttucksFuture and technology; we will voice and create dreams in the community.”
