Venus Williams Advances To Second Round After Earning 90th Wimbledon Win

Venus Williams Advances To Second Round After Earning 90th Wimbledon Win

Venus Williams celebrated her 90th Wimbledon win after beating Mihaela Buzarnescu of Romania 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.

This marks Williams’ first Wimbledon victory since 2018. “You can’t win them all. Life is about how you handle challenges. Each point is a challenge on the court. No one gives you anything,” said Williams. “I like to think I handle my challenges well.”

In 2019, Venus spoke about the struggles she faced after being diagnosed with Sjorgen’s syndrome a decade ago.

“Unfortunately, that’s typical of people with autoimmune disease,” Williams said in a 2019 interview with Prevention. “They’re misdiagnosed or too sick to function. I literally had professional tennis taken away from me before I got the right diagnosis.”

There is no cure for Sjogren’s syndrome. “So you can imagine, it has definitely affected my game,” she told the outlet.

Venus Williams was forced to pull out of the 2011 U.S. Open and focus on her health.

Venus Williams Launches Sunscreen for Black People

Venus Williams Launches Sunscreen for Black People

Venus Williams is a renowned athlete but she’s expanding her empire to the beauty industry.

Black Enterprise reports that Williams partnered with Credo Beauty to launch a sunscreen specifically for women of color.

“SPF is a part of my daily routine because I spend so much time outdoors as a result of my job, and through the years I found that a lot of natural sunscreens left a white cast on my skin,” the tennis player said in an Instagram announcement.

“That’s why with EleVen by Venus, we wanted to set a new standard for clean beauty and ensure our sunscreens are versatile, lightweight and blends with all skin tones. It really works for everyone!”

Venus Williams said in an interview with Allure that she always been interested in skincare at a young age. “When I was younger, I was wild and too free, and I took it for granted that I had great skin. But that is not the case now. I am covered from head to toe when I’m outside: long sleeves, long pants, and sunscreen. I try to protect my skin as much as I can.”

During Instagram live this week Williams credited her sister for inspiring her new endeavor. “Serena really inspired me. We would practice side by side and I’d see her all the time in sunscreen and long sleeves. Finally one day I realized what I was doing to my skin by not protecting it.”

The Caucasity Of It! Players Wear Blackface To Mock The Williams Sisters

When the beautiful and talented Williams Sisters come to your tournament you can expect a few things are going to happen. 1) Both Serena & Venus gonna stunt on the children with a fly ‘fit. 2) Contenders on the court are going to be nervous because they (in the words of Big Freedia) came to slay! 3) Some bigoted fool will say or do something dumb and racist. We saw that at the US Opens just a week ago. Fast forward this one and we see the tomfoolery is back in full swing.

According to The Washington Posts, The Penguin Football Club from Tasmania ( Australian-rules football in the North West Football League (NWFL) participated in the end of the season prank called “Mad Monday.”  Three of the players were photographed in blackface, costumed as tennis champions Serena Williams, Venus Williams and Kenyan-born football player Aliir Aliir.

It didn’t take long before social media caught wind of it. The shameful picture has been shared all over the world via Twitter and Facebook (though the Facebook picture has been taken down).

“It was not their intention to upset anyone and all they meant to do was dress as one of their sporting idols… Their actions were never intended to be racist in any way. Those concerned have been reprimanded and will be given support to make sure they understand that their behaviour (sic) was racist and hurtful and that it will not happen again… The players concerned have acknowledged that what they did was completely and utterly unacceptable and would like to apologise (sic) unreservedly for their lack of judgement.”

Whether to two queens accept this wack apology is no known… what we do know is as stated before: They will continue to stunt on the children, make contenders shake with fear and rise as the bigots come for them.
