Metro Boomin Teams with MLB Network for Baseball's Opening Day

Metro Boomin, a producer with a Diamond certification and a GRAMMY® Award nomination, has teamed up with MLB Network to appear in its Opening Day programming in 2023.

The piece will be broadcast throughout the MLB Network’s extensive studio programming starting at 9 a.m. ET today (Thursday), an award-winning platform for MLB content. The opening, which is set to the songs “On Time” and “Trance” from the HEROES & VILLAINS album, draws on Metro Boomin’s love of baseball and the St. Louis Cardinals and compares the process of writing new music to players getting ready for a 162-game regular season.

At one point in the video, Metro Boomin says, “But all throughout, you gotta be true to yourself. Inject that flavor that makes what you’re creating different from everything anyone else has ever come up with.”

The opening features a number of shots and highlights of Major League Baseball’s seasoned veterans and up-and-comers, including Julio Rodriguez (Seattle Mariners), Shohei Ohtani (Los Angeles Angels), Justin Verlander (NY Mets), and Jazz Chisholm Jr. (Miami Marlins).

“You can’t beat this time of year. Everybody’s staring at 162. 162 chances to make that beautiful music you can’t get anywhere else. Play ball.”

SOURCE SPORTS: Tekashi 6ix9ine Was Allegedly Assaulted For Dissing Puerto Rico During 2023 WBC

Screen Shot 2023 03 23 at 11.52.15 AM

The World Baseball Classic came to a dramatic conclusion yesterday when Team Japan’s Shohei Ohtani struck out Team USA captain Mike Trout, finishing up the tourney undefeated and taking home the gold. Another unexpected occurrence was Mexico surprisingly making it to the semi-finals, with an elimination game against Puerto Rico.

The Mexico/Puerto Rico match-up happened at Miami’s Loan Depot, with a host of celebrities on hand, including controversial Brooklyn rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine, who is the son of a Puerto Rican father and Mexican mother. When Mexico pulled off their comeback against PR, a video of Tekashi wearing a Mexico jersey and waving Mexico’s flag went viral after a fan of Team Puerto Rico threw a beer in his face.

After that, more footage of the “Gummo” rapper at the WBC appeared online, with him arguing about why he only claims his Mexican heritage, yet denounces his Puerto Rican roots. Three days after that video surfaced, another video of Tekashi getting beat down inside of the locker room of a Miami LA Fitness made its way to the blogosphere.

It was never confirmed, but an IG user recently posted that 6ix9ine was assaulted because f his disrespect towards Puerto Rico with his one-sided support for Mexico.

“Puerto Ricans whooped 69 this wasn’t bout no snitching, they whooped em for dissing Puerto Ricans after that baseball game.”

Stephen A. Smith Forecasts Layoffs for ESPN: ‘I Might Be One of Them’

Stephen A. Smith Says COVID-19 Vaccine Saved His Life

It appears that a tough road is ahead for ESPN. Front Office Sports notes Disney, ESPN’s parent company, is getting ready to undergo corporate restructuring. The company will save 7,000 jobs and $5.5 billion in costs in doing so.

Speaking on the matters was Stephen A. Smith, who took to his K[no}W Mercy podcast and detailed that everyone could be impacted.

“Have you all been paying attention to the business landscape? Disney itself announced that over 7,000 employees are going to be let go,” Smith said. “ESPN is under the Disney umbrella. They’re going to have cuts coming.”

Adding in to the severity of the financial situation, Smith added, “Hell, for all I know, I might be one of them. Now I doubt that. But it’s possible. No one knows.”

Smith has been giving his insight on a wide variety of topics lately. While talking about the Ja Morant situation, Stephen A. Smith revealed why he never wants to go to strip clubs. The smell.

“I’m not one for strip clubs,” Smith said. “I’m a bit older in this day and age, and even when I was younger, I’ve never had a proclivity for strip clubs. I never liked the smell.”

Stephen A. Smith Says COVID-19 Vaccine Saved His Life

Well, ok.

You can hear it from Stephen A. below.

Over the weekend, the New York Post published images of Ja Morant in the private room of Colorado strip club Shotgun Willies.

Sources revealed to the publication that Ja Morant visited twice over three days, spending $50,000 in tips. “The whole room is full of money — it’s literally a pile. You’d need a rake,” one source said.

Morant attended with one friend and two security guards, spending $900 to book the room for three hours. An insider stated he played “very, very gangster music.” Morant also ordered bottle service, hickory-smoked wings, two platters of chicken strips and fries, and a steak to eat while he enjoyed the company of four dancers.

Club owner Deborah Dunafon sang Morant’s praises, citing him as “exceptionally respectful.”

“He did not drink [on his second visit],” Dunafon said. “We’ve had [Denver] Nuggets and Broncos … come in and pitch quarters at the girls, be disrespectful and nasty. He’s marvelous.”

Unfortunately, Dunafon’s establishment released the images, which the Post picked up, drawing criticism online from notable figures and more.

Report: Ja Morant Feared to Miss Rest of NBA Season

Ja Morant Will Not be Charged by Colorado Authorities, Will Miss Next 4 Games

Grim news for the Memphis Grizzlies franchise and its fans as Ja Morant is now rumored to miss the rest of the season. ESPN’s Marc Spears appeared on The Hoop Collective, and while he kept the details short, he revealed that it would be a wrap for the point guard’s season.

“There’s things I’m hearing that I’d rather probably not say on this podcast,” Spears said. “My guess now is that he doesn’t play the rest of the season.”

Ja Morant has entered a counseling program in Florida. In an ESPN update on Monday, Morant currently is still without a timetable to return to this NBA season.

In a statement, Morant revealed he is working “to get help and work on learning better methods of dealing with stress and my overall well-being.” Previously, Morant was said to be out through this Wednesday’s game, but the belief is Morant will miss more time.

Memphis management has frequently stated publicly that Morant will be held accountable for a history of dubious decisions and behavior, and the NBA is currently looking into the situation.

“I’ve said that he’s taking time and responsibility to get better for himself so that he can be better for our team,” Jenkins said. “I’m not going to really comment further until there’s more updates necessary.”

“His spirit has been great so far when I have spoken to him,” Morant’s teammate Tyus Jones told ESPN. “It’s a unique time. There comes times in life when you’ve got to put yourself first before your family, before basketball, before a lot of other stuff, and I don’t know if a lot of guys have ever done that. It’s a time where he’s getting to put himself first, and I think he’s taken advantage of that. I hope he’s taking advantage of that, and it will be good for him.”

Ja Morant Enters Counseling Program in Florida, No NBA Return Date Announced

Ja Morant is currently away from the Memphis Grizzlies but will also be away from commercial breaks. According to The Drum, Coca-Cola has pulled Morant’s Powerade campaign ads.

Morant is currently in the fallout from flashing a gun in the strip club on Instagram. He won’t be formally charged, but he is currently serving a suspension that runs through at least 15 games. Adding on, Powerade is pushing pause on their largest campaign in history, “From Underestimated to Undeniable,” which featured Morant. The ads have been pulled from YouTube and social media.

The campaign was set to be a major step forward in Coca-Cola’s aim to battle the power of Gatorade, with the combination of Body Armor.

Ken Sadowsky, a veteran beverage analyst, told The Drum, the controversy is “bad timing” for the brand as it heads into the summer season.

“There’s a lot of activity and growth in the isotonics category, but Coke is now facing a challenge for the umpteenth time. It’s difficult because the 600-pound Gatorade gorilla is pretty good at putting down challengers,” Sadowsky said.
