TV One’s ‘Uncensored’ Will Air DMX’s Final & “Most Transparent Interview To Date”

Rapper DMX‘s final interview before he died is set to air on TVOne next month on the network’s popular “Uncensored” series. Cathy Hughes, founder of Urban One, the nation’s largest Black-owned media company, tweeted the announcement Thursday afternoon.

‘In his final interview, hip hop legend #DMX opens up about his personal life in his own words on #UncensoredTVOne,” Hughes tweeted.

DMX died April 9, just days after it was reported that he suffered a heart attack following a drug overdose. The rapper, named Earl Simmons, was just 50 years old.

The first part of the interview is scheduled to air Sunday, May 16, at 8 p.m. ET ahead of the annual Urban One Honors awards ceremony telecast.

DMX sat down with our team and was completely UNCENSORED,” Hughes said in a statement. “We have one hour with the late rapper in his own words. For DMX to be with us just three weeks before God called him home, I believe it’s truly divine intervention. I thank Nikki from SWIRL films for staying the course because he kept telling her ‘no’, but thankfully we were able to make it happen. His family, fan club, friends, and supporters will be happy with the way he told his story for the last time. The two-part special will air directly before the annual Urban One Honors. I’m particularly excited because I feel like this will be the biggest night in TV One History.”

Prior to the announcement about “Uncensored,” it was believed that DMX’s final interview was on the “Drink Champs” podcast on an episode that aired in February. During its taping, DMX ruminated about his death.

“If I was to drop dead right now, my last thought would be: ‘I’ve lived a good life,’” he said at the time.

DMX rose to fame in the late 1990s by leading the Ruff Ryders collective of artists to chart-topping success, including the rarified feat of having two number 1 albums in the same calendar year.

The multi Grammy-nominated rapper’s 1998 debut album, “It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot,” went four times platinum, leading to six more albums, with the most recent one being released in 2012.

Aside from chart-topping hits, DMX’s career was also marked by his struggles with addiction dating back more than a decade. He has been publicly open about his drug problems throughout most of his life, including a near-fatal overdose in 2016. As a result, he found himself in and out of legal troubles over his battle with addiction.

While it was not immediately announced what exactly to expect from DMX’s final interview, “Uncensored” is described in part as a reality docuseries that focuses on “the lives of your favorite personalities as they reveal secrets to their success, obstacles they’ve faced, and how they manage this new world of social media that has helped, but sometimes haunted their careers.”

The “Uncensored” interview will precede the televising of the Urban One Honors, the company’s yearly awards ceremony and celebration of the best in Black excellence.

This year’s show—set to be hosted by Grammy Award-winning gospel artist, author and syndicated radio personality Erica Campbell along with award-winning journalist, author and news anchor Roland Martin—carries a theme of “Women Leading the Change” and will highlight the extraordinary contributions of women in business, media, health, politics that have led to impactful change within the Black community.

Some of the categories in which the honorees will be awarded include Voting Rights Champion, Investigative Journalism Crusader, Health Equality Advocate, Business Alchemist, Family Needs Ambassador and Reparations Trailblazer.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Remembered in TV One Special ‘Unsung Presents: Music & The Movement’ Airing Jan. 18

Screen Shot 2021 01 14 at 11.04.54 PM

TV One shines a light on Stevie Wonder and Gil Scott-Heron’s work to rally support to establish a holiday for Martin Luther King, Jr. in the two-hour, two-part special Unsung Presents: Music & The Movement airing Monday, January 18, 2021 at 8 p.m. ET/7C.

In the documentary that provides a timeline denoting how music from Black artists served as the soundtrack to the Black experience in America, civil rights leader Rev. Al Sharpton describes the impact of Wonder’s 1980 MLK tribute “Happy Birthday,” tour featuring Scott-Heron, and historic rally at the Washington DC monument in 1981.

Sharpton recalls former President Ronald Regan initially opposing creating a holiday in honor of King and Wonder and Scott-Heron helping to bring more attention to the cause. “The president at that time was saying, ‘That’s absurd we’re not going to do that,’” Sharpton says in the television special. “In fact, Ronald Regan had called Dr. King at some time a communist at some point in his life. As those of us in the King movement started to petition, Mrs. King was out front. All of a sudden there was a rhythm set to that movement, Stevie Wonder, Gil Scott-Heron, and the movement blew up, and it became a cultural phenomenon to accompany the political aspirations.”

In November 1983, three years after the release of Wonder’s King tribute, President Regan signed a bill to make Martin Luther King, Jr. Day an American federal holiday.

King received the support of numerous Black musicians, including Aretha Franklin, says Unsung Presents: Music & The Movement Co-Executive Producer P. Frank Williams. “People think of her as the greatest singer ever, but Aretha’s a very political woman,” Williams says. “And she actually funded part of Martin Luther Kings’ marches. She was always a part of it.” Williams, an Emmy and 8-time NAACP Image Award-winning producer, has also produced shows like American Gangster on BET and Who Killed Tupac on A&E. She is the former Executive Editor of The Source Magazine. Her company, Prophet From It Entertainment, recently produced an upcoming Black History Month social justice series and a hip-hop game show for Viacom.

Unsung Presents: Music & The Movement tells the stories of dozens of Black musicians including Billie Holiday, Curtis Mayfield, Public Enemy, and Beyonce, their music, and the impact they have had in fighting for equality and justice.

Lamar Odom Says He Left Taraji P.Henson For Khloe Kardashian, Twitter Blames The Booger Sugar

Lamar Odom Uncensored

Source: via UNCENSORED / TV One

Lamar Odom has lived one hell of a life. The former NBA baller sat down with TV One’s Uncensored and got very candid about the mistakes he made in life. One egregious error, in particular, is gaining attention, and that was him choosing Khloe Kardashian over Taraji P.Henson.

Odom who is currently dating personal trainer Sabrina Parr shocked the internet by revealing he used to date the Oscar-nominated actress. He went into great detail about his relationship with the Proud Mary star and calling the decision to leave her for the Kardashian an “immature” decision.

“I wish I would have done things different with her,” Odom confessed. “She was a little older than me, but I learned a lot from her because that was the most significant relationship as a grown-up that I had with a black woman.”

“I used to carry her picture on the road with me. Don’t nobody know that, except for the dudes that played with me. She gave me inspiration. A black woman working like that … that’s just as good with her craft as I am in my craft.”

Odom even reminisced about a game against the Cleveland Cavaliers where he had himself a career night thanks in large to part to Henson.

“I remember we were on the road for our longest road trip and we were playing Cleveland. And I went off on their ass, but part of the inspiration of me going back to see her and getting back to LA was one of the reasons I kicked their ass that night. I remember how I was feeling during that game and after that game. She inspired me.”

Odom finally went on to reveal he ended things with Taraji because he was falling for Kardashian and did not know how to break the revelation to her.

“Things ended with Taraji because of me being an immature punk, I didn’t know how to tell her that I was falling in love with another woman named Khloe Kardashian.

Well, Twitter is scratching their heads, Odom, choosing Khloe over the Black Excellence that is Taraji P. Henson. You can see all the reactions to his foolish mistake below.
