dmx 1 1

It looks like DMX recorded an Uncensored episode for TV One before he was called home.

As the Hip Hop community continues to mourn the great loss of DMX, fans will get the opportunity to hear the legendary rapper share his own story.

YV Magazine reported that TV One confirmed the two-part Uncensored special centered around the Yonkers native at the Urban Honors press junket Wednesday afternoon.

Part one is set to air on TV One Sunday, May 16th at 8:00 p.m. ET/PST ahead of the Urban One Honors, which is set to air immediately after hosted by Erica Campbell and news anchor Roland Martin.

DMX was honored in a beautiful tribute at the Barclays Center. His close friends and family eulogized him including the whole Ruff Ryders crew, his Belly co-star, Nas, and his ex-wife, Tashera Simmons who shared a heartwarming moment with his fiancé, Desiree.

In addition to the Uncensored special, DMX was working on an upcoming album throughout the pandemic which his manager, Darrin Dee Dean, confirmed is still releasing.

“It’s sad that he’s not gonna be here, but the music…This album right here is special,” said Darrin Dean. “Like you probably never heard no music like you heard on this one that we did right now. This is probably one of his great albums. One of the best. It’s a classic, for sure.”

Snoop Dogg revealed that the late rapper recorded the project at his studio following their epic Verzuz battle, and he’s also set to be featured on it alongside Pop Smoke, The Griselda Boys, Lil Wayne, Alicia Keys, and more.

DMX will continue to live through his music because that’s how Ruff Ryders roll.

TV One’s ‘Uncensored’ Will Air DMX’s Final & “Most Transparent Interview To Date”

DMX on TVOne "Uncensored"

Rapper DMX‘s final interview before he died is set to air on TVOne next month on the network’s popular “Uncensored” series. Cathy Hughes, founder of Urban One, the nation’s largest Black-owned media company, tweeted the announcement Thursday afternoon.

‘In his final interview, hip hop legend #DMX opens up about his personal life in his own words on #UncensoredTVOne,” Hughes tweeted.

DMX died April 9, just days after it was reported that he suffered a heart attack following a drug overdose. The rapper, named Earl Simmons, was just 50 years old.

The first part of the interview is scheduled to air Sunday, May 16, at 8 p.m. ET ahead of the annual Urban One Honors awards ceremony telecast.

DMX sat down with our team and was completely UNCENSORED,” Hughes said in a statement. “We have one hour with the late rapper in his own words. For DMX to be with us just three weeks before God called him home, I believe it’s truly divine intervention. I thank Nikki from SWIRL films for staying the course because he kept telling her ‘no’, but thankfully we were able to make it happen. His family, fan club, friends, and supporters will be happy with the way he told his story for the last time. The two-part special will air directly before the annual Urban One Honors. I’m particularly excited because I feel like this will be the biggest night in TV One History.”

Prior to the announcement about “Uncensored,” it was believed that DMX’s final interview was on the “Drink Champs” podcast on an episode that aired in February. During its taping, DMX ruminated about his death.

“If I was to drop dead right now, my last thought would be: ‘I’ve lived a good life,’” he said at the time.

DMX rose to fame in the late 1990s by leading the Ruff Ryders collective of artists to chart-topping success, including the rarified feat of having two number 1 albums in the same calendar year.

The multi Grammy-nominated rapper’s 1998 debut album, “It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot,” went four times platinum, leading to six more albums, with the most recent one being released in 2012.

Aside from chart-topping hits, DMX’s career was also marked by his struggles with addiction dating back more than a decade. He has been publicly open about his drug problems throughout most of his life, including a near-fatal overdose in 2016. As a result, he found himself in and out of legal troubles over his battle with addiction.

While it was not immediately announced what exactly to expect from DMX’s final interview, “Uncensored” is described in part as a reality docuseries that focuses on “the lives of your favorite personalities as they reveal secrets to their success, obstacles they’ve faced, and how they manage this new world of social media that has helped, but sometimes haunted their careers.”

The “Uncensored” interview will precede the televising of the Urban One Honors, the company’s yearly awards ceremony and celebration of the best in Black excellence.

This year’s show—set to be hosted by Grammy Award-winning gospel artist, author and syndicated radio personality Erica Campbell along with award-winning journalist, author and news anchor Roland Martin—carries a theme of “Women Leading the Change” and will highlight the extraordinary contributions of women in business, media, health, politics that have led to impactful change within the Black community.

Some of the categories in which the honorees will be awarded include Voting Rights Champion, Investigative Journalism Crusader, Health Equality Advocate, Business Alchemist, Family Needs Ambassador and Reparations Trailblazer.

TV One’s edgy docu-series Uncensored, which explores the private lives of some of today’s most notable personalities, highlights singer and actor Tyrese this Sunday, September 13 at 10 P.M. ET/9C followed by an encore presentation at 11 P.M. ET/10C

The episode will re-air on Wednesday, Sept 16 at 10 PM/9C. On this episode, Tyrese opens up about his marriage, the colorism he faced while growing up, and how the late director John Singleton changed his life when he cast him in the iconic film Baby Boy.

Tyrese began his career at the age of 14, performing in local talent shows around his home in Los Angeles’ Watts section. His big break came when he starred in a commercial for Coca-Cola, followed shortly in 1998 by his self-titled debut album for RCA. He continues to flourish in the acting realm with his next project being the newest installment of the ever-popular Fast and Furious franchise, FF9, debuting in 2021.

In his episode of Uncensored, Tyrese gets candid about experiencing colorism, growing up in the hood, and his journey to self-confidence. The auto-biographical series delves into the lives of luminaries as they reveal secrets to their success, obstacles they faced and how they’ve navigated the perils of social media that helped – and sometimes haunted – their careers.

This season continues with rapper/TV personality Eve, producer/TV personality Yandy Smith-Harris, actor Omari Hardwick, actress/singer Jenifer Lewis and legendary actress/choreographer/director Debbie Allen.

Each week viewers get a glimpse into the lives of high-profile celebrities as they reveal their stories — in their own words. “We’re excited for the return and talent line-up for this season of Uncensored, which is one of the network’s top-rated series,” said Executive Producer in Charge of Production Jason Ryan. “Viewers will get to experience the intimate revelations of some of their favorite celebrities.”

TV One will also launch a weekly digital series, Bossip Uncensored, featuring informative and humorous commentary from Danielle Canada and Janeé Bolden, two voices behind the popular Bossip.com headlines. Each Thursday, the hosts discuss the featured celebrity and provide sneak previews of the upcoming Uncensored episode.
