Brandy and Monica Pay Tribute to the Many Loved Ones We’ve Lost in 2020 During Record-Breaking Verzuz Battle

Brandy and Monica Pay Tribute to the Many Loved Ones We've Lost in 2020 During Record-Breaking Verzuz Battle

It was just last night that the ladies brought out the all-white open toe sandals and their box braids to listen to two of R&B’s favorite women in the industry, Brandy and Monica. The two women had a record-breaking Verzuz TV battle with 1.2 million viewers.

Not only was it nice to see the two women come together, but also uplift everyone around during a hard time after hearing about the passing of our Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman.

The two R&B Divas paid tribute to our loved ones who we have lost in the entertainment industry after playing a Brandy classic. One of Brandy’s ten poems she read last night really caught fans’ eye as it read. “We are attached to our moments to see our loved ones in our day. The names swarm into shapes, clouds, into smiles, into colors. But I feel like sounds and numbers next to names whisper that they are all still with us,” Brandy begins.

With a tearful expression, Brandy continued, “Number 24 and Number 8, Kobe Bryant. Number 2, Gianna Bryant. Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman. Nipsey Hussle, Lashawn Daniels, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, and all the loved ones we have lost, this song is dedicated to them,” said Brandy as she began to play her song “Missing You.”

We have lost so many loved ones, it is important to love each other, each and every day. Rest In Power to all of our sisters and brothers.

Michael B. Jordan “Struggling” As He Pays Tribute To “Big Brother” Chadwick Boseman

Even though the characters of Erik Killmonger and King T’Challa were from two different worlds, the storyline of Black Panther proved that they were fruit of the same tree.

Michael B. Jordan and Chadwick Boseman played opposite sides of the coin of justice in the 2018, but these two men were connected before their appearance together in Wakanda and the Creed star spelled out their decade long destiny in a heartfelt tribute on his Instagram page.

“Since nearly the beginning of my career, starting with ‘All My Children’ when I was 16 years old you paved the way for me,” wrote Jordan about him replacing Boseman on the famous soap opera. “You showed me how to be better, honor purpose, and create legacy. And whether you’ve known it or not…I’ve been watching, learning and constantly motivated by your greatness.”

I’ve been trying to find the words, but nothing comes close to how I feel. I’ve been reflecting on every moment, every conversation, every laugh, every disagreement, every hug…everything. I wish we had more time. One of the last times we spoke, you said we were forever linked , and now the truth of that means more to me than ever. Since nearly the beginning of my career, starting with All My Children when I was 16 years old you paved the way for me. You showed me how to be better, honor purpose, and create legacy. And whether you’ve known it or not…I’ve been watching, learning and constantly motivated by your greatness. I wish we had more time. Everything you’ve given the world … the legends and heroes that you’ve shown us we are … will live on forever. But the thing that hurts the most is that I now understand how much of a legend and hero YOU are. Through it all, you never lost sight of what you loved most. You cared about your family , your friends, your craft, your spirit. You cared about the kids, the community, our culture and humanity. You cared about me. You are my big brother, but I never fully got a chance to tell you, or to truly give you your flowers while you were here. I wish we had more time. I'm more aware now than ever that time is short with people we love and admire. I’m gonna miss your honesty, your generosity, your sense of humor, and incredible gifts. I’ll miss the gift of sharing space with you in scenes. I’m dedicating the rest of my days to live the way you did. With grace, courage, and no regrets. “Is this your king!?” Yes . he . is!  Rest In Power Brother.

He reminisced about their friendship, their professional relationship and all of those little things like “every moment, every conversation, every laugh, every disagreement, every hug.” He made a vow to dedicate the rest of his days to living as Boseman did, “with grace, courage, and no regrets.”

And all throughout, that heartbreaking refrain, “I wish we had more time.”

The 62nd Annual Grammy Awards featured a tribute to the late Nipsey Hussle that, for obvious reasons, had an even deeper effect due to the unfortunate loss of Kobe Bryant. With the somber air hanging about in the Staples Center, Meek Mill and Roddy Ricch honored Neighborhood Nip in song with “Letter To Nipsey” Sunday night and the song is now available to the masses.

Meek, who worked with Nipsey on DJ Mustard’s Cold Summer project released in 2016, opens up the track with heartfelt bars over Papamitrou aka Nick Paz’s production.

“I just left your viewing at the Staples Center/Obama wrote you a letter, yeah, you made it n*gga/I even heard you had some players to come to Vegas with us/And them suckers could never kill you, it only made you bigger,” Meek begins.

Roddy Ricch, who worked with Nipsey on the Grammy Award-winning track “Racks In The Middle,” matched Meek’s emotion and focus in the second half of the song.

“I was in Miami when I lost you, I ain’t talk about it/I remember I bawled out in tears when I saw your body/In a flight back home, had cold days in LA/Had to turn off my phone, throw on the shades and meditate,” Ricch expressed in the start of his verse.

During the Grammy Awards tribute, Meek and Roddy took to the stage with YG, John Legend, DJ Khaled and Kirk Franklin for a moving tribute performance. Nipsey also was honored with the Best Rap Performance award for his song “Racks In The Middle” with Roddy Ricch. DJ Khaled’s “Higher” featuring Legend and Nipsey took home the Best Rap/Sung Performance award.

Atlantic Records and Meek Mill both said that all sales and proceeds of “Letter To Nipsey” will go directly to the late rapper’s family. The marathon continues, indeed.

Many are still mourning the untimely passing of Juice WRLD. One person in particular is the late rapper’s girlfriend, Alli Lotti, who made it a point to let the world know what kind of individual he was.

As spotted on Hip-Hop N More Juice’s significant other showed courage and heart by making an appearance at the recent Rolling Loud Los Angeles. As an unexpected surprise, Ally Lotti took the stage to speak about her love and his legacy. “I just wanted to come out here and let everyone know that Jarad loved every single person that he helped on this Earth,” she said. “He literally loved every single one of you guys” she revealed.

Lotti continued to further detail his connection to his fans. “There was not a time that he showed me any different love than he felt for you. He wants everyone to know that you need to take any negative thing in your life – he would tell you every time he saw you – and change that to a positive situation.”

She also used the platform to call out the country’s growing prescription drug crisis. “Addiction knows no boundaries and its impact goes way beyond the person fighting it. Jarad was a son, brother, grandson, friend and so much more to so many people who wanted more than anything to see him defeat addiction,” she revealed.

The festival also curated a 20 minute video to commemorate the fallen rapper with A Boogie wit da Hoodie, G Herbo and Ski Mask the Slump God all performing their collaborations with Juice. Naturally the crowd was receptive as the Chicago native was originally supposed to perform a set.
