Tiffany Boone Speaks Out After Leaving ‘The Chi’: “I felt that if I didn’t speak up, other voices that were trying to be heard would be silenced”

Baltimore actress Tiffany Boone left Showtime’s The Chi back in November of 2018, after accusing co-star Jason Mithell of sexual harassment.

Last May, Mitchell was terminated from the show following the accusations put out from Boone and showrunner, Ayanna Floyd Davis. In a recent post on Instagram, Boone further elaborated on her reasons behind leaving the show. “You don’t carelessly leave a ‘hit show’ that is praised by your community.” I deeply love Chicago and the people of that city who have embraced me. I felt honored and privileged to be part of telling their story. The weight of what I was leaving behind felt like a ton, but the weight of my responsibility to speak up was even heavier. There were people who questioned my decision. How could I be sure I would work again, especially on a project of that magnitude? I wasn’t sure, but I had faith that once I took that leap I could be guided wherever I was supposed to go.”

Not only was Mitchell released from The Black Reel Winning show, but he was also released from the Netflix movie Desperados following similar accusations from multiple actresses. He was also let go from his talent agency, UTA.

I wasn’t raised to quit jobs. Yet, a day came when I had to be brutally honest with myself about what I was willing to sacrifice just to have a job. Was I able to compromise my values, integrity, and happiness, just to be employed?” said Boone in her statement.

Boone departed from her role on The Chi in its second season. She mentioned that she had gone to HR during season 1 of the show, but felt that her concerns regarding the incident were ignored. “However, once we started filming, I quickly realized that not everyone was interested in creating a work environment that was conducive to each person feeling safe, seen and heard,” Boone wrote. “I felt that if I didn’t speak up, other voices that were trying to be heard would be silenced,” she stated.

Boone is now cast in Jordan Peele’s Amazon Series Hunters and Little Fires Everywhere on Hulu. The Chi will begin its third season on July 5th.

Former ‘The Chi’ Actor Jason Mitchell Denies Sexual Misconduct Claims

Premiere of Showtime's 'The Chi - Arrivals

Actor Jason Mitchell is speaking out against sexual assault allegations that were made against him earlier this year.

On Monday (Nov. 4) during his interview with New York’s Power 105.1 The Breakfast Club, Jason Mitchell took time to address both claims, denying any wrongdoing and claims that both in part are misunderstandings. In regards to his departure from Netflix’s “Desperados” in April due to an incident involving an intoxicated female co-worker at a pre-production event in Mexico, Jason states that he was simply looking out for a coworker.

“Being the person that I am, I felt responsible to make sure she got home,” Jason Mitchell said. “Because they’re already telling us, like, ‘Don’t take the Ubers, don’t trust these people, don’t jump in a cab, don’t do any of that.’ We’re in Mexico City and we’re in a foreign land and we should stick together. This isn’t where I leave her. So I make sure she got home and the next day, it kind of all slapped me in the face; I’m not sure if her and her significant other had a situation, I made sure she got home but other than that, nothing really happened.”

Jason claims that although he did nothing wrong, he was dismissed from the film with pay but without an explanation as to why he was let go, before apologizing for offending anyone.

“For anybody who’s been around me, they know I’m one of the most loving, sweet people in the world, but if I did do anything, say anything, make anybody feel any kind of way, you have my deepest apologies,” Mitchell continued. “Like, honestly, my deepest apologies. Because that was never my intention of making anybody feel any sort of way.”

Mitchell also denied any wrong doing with former The Chi co-star Tiffany Boone, who publicly admitted that she felt “unsafe” around the actor. Mitchell claims that the story was pushed by the hit show’s showrunner Ayanna Floyd Davis.

“There was actually no situation with Tiffany Boone,” Jason Mitchell said. “She was put in this position because this lady, Ayanna Floyd Davis, she did come out and go to Deadline and made a statement for Tiffany Boone. I was a little taken back by the whole situation that happened, but the actual reason I got let go was because Disney saw what was going on with ‘Desperados’ and they just bought Showtime,” Mitchell explained. “So they decided not to pick up my option. And of course, I’ve been on the show for what was about to be three seasons, I was nominated for an award, so I was asking for more money and all these sorts of things and they just weren’t down to do it.”

Mitchell went onto say that while he is an avid supporter of the “Me Too” movement, it’s situations like his that make it hard to stand in solidarity when someone makes a malicious claim.

“I really hate to say this, because I’m all for the Me Too movement,” Mitchell continued. “I have two beautiful daughters who I would like to be in the business, so I’m all for the Me Too movement. But I think in this situation, Aryanna tried to use it as a really, really ugly weapon.”

Jason Mitchell Completes Mental Health Counseling Following Sexual Misconduct Allegations

For Your Consideration For Showtime's "The Chi"

Former The Chi actor Jason Mitchell has decided to switch gears and make a few changes in his life.

According to published reports, the actor recently completed counseling for mental health and personal development, in an attempt to get his life back on track after being dropped by Hollywood amid sexual misconduct allegations. According to The ShadeRoom, sources told the publication that Jason Mitchell “has worked on anger management, self-awareness, acceptance of responsibility, and purpose.”

This news serves as a refreshing start for the actor, who just a few months ago shocked fans after news of his alleged on set antics were revealed to the public.

As previously reported, Mitchell was been booted from hit series The Chi, along with losing a leading role in an upcoming Netflix film after allegations of sexual harassment by his The Chi co-star Tiffany Boone, along with a handful of other women, who stated that Mitchell made them feel uncomfortable while on set. Things reportedly became so bad for Boone that she requested producers not schedule the two to work one-on-one, before asking to be released from the show altogether.

After the news broke, executive producers of the show released a statement denouncing their support of the Straight Outta Compton actor, before revealing that his character would be “killed off” of the show.

At the time, Mitchell took to Instagram to issue an informal statement in the comments, telling fans “not to believe everything you read in the media.”

“I think it’s time to make a statement,” Jason Mitchell previously wrote. “To everyone commenting without any knowledge of what’s going please stop. And to all my supporters I appreciate you all and I’m sorry I will no longer be in (‘The Chi’) but don’t believe what you read in the media.”

Despite the reports, Mitchell himself has yet to confirm or deny the rumors. His last social media post on both Instagram and Twitter was from May of this year a week prior to the allegations breaking, with the exception of a retweet on September 26.
