Brooklyn Rapper Smoove L Reportedly Arrested for Gun After Running Red Light

Smoove L was reportedly arrested with a loaded gun after running a red light, NYC cops said Tuesday. The Brooklyn native, whose real name is Lefty Sanders, was driving a 2015 black suburban on Marcus Garvey Boulevard in Bed-Stuy just before 5:45 p.m. when he ran through the light at Green Avenue and pulled over.

When police approached the SUV, they reportedly smelled weed from the driver’s side. The 19-year-old rapper allegedly had a loaded black Ruger and was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and given traffic and drug summonses.

Smoove L has yet to comment on the incident. It was unclear if he had an attorney.

If you’re unfamiliar with L, he’s one of the notable figures of the Brooklyn Drill wave. He brought melody to the movement with his breakout single, “New Apolos” in November and has been building the momentum since. He signed to Interscope Records at the top of the year.

He told Complex he’s been making music since he was 13. “I stopped around 14. I was in the streets and playing basketball,” he remembers. “Then, at the end of 10th grade, going into 11th, I started again. That’s the moment I noticed I want to rap for real, for real. Anybody was just getting on. I was like, ‘Fuck it, I’m about to rap.’”

Casanova and Pop Smoke Squash Beef Over Dinner

Pop Smoke and Casanova found themselves entangled in a disagreement after the “Welcome to the Party” rapper dissed Cas while proclaiming himself as the King of New York. “YALL OLD NIGGAS BETTER PACK IT UP😈THIS AINT NO TRASHANOVA SHIT💩NO SCARY L SHIT🙅🏾‍♂️ YALL KNOW THE WOOS RUN THE CITY👑💫.”

After hearing a preview of the track on Pop’s Instagram, Casanova responded, “STOP USING MY PHRASE ‘WE OUTSIDE’ YEA MY PHASE‼CAUSE YALL NOT OUTSIDE WE KNOW WHO’S OUTSIDE.” He also tweeted that “NOBODY RUNS NEW YORK IT’S TOO MUCH OUTSIDE NS TO FRONT LIKE ONE N HAS THOSE POWER TO CONTROL THE WHOLE BITY.”

It’s unclear where the beef stemmed from, but Pop must be feeling a way about the “Don’t Run” rapper’s “Demons and Devils” collaboration with Fivio Foreign and Smoove L. Smoove and Pop are currently beefing over the “Gatti” beat which was originally used for Smoove’s breakout hit, “New Apollos.” But Apollos is now available on Apple Music with a similar beat instead of the AXL Beats produced sound.

Either way we’re glad to see that it’s squashed, and it was handled peacefully just like we thought it would. It’s important to note that Casanova is 13 years older than him so he was presumably the bigger person, literally and figuratively.

Now let’s get back to getting this money.

Meek Mill Weighs in on Brooklyn Rap Beef Following Pop Smoke’s Shots to Casanova, Smoove L

Young Hip Hop fans were rejoicing about the Drill sub-genre that’s emerging out of Brooklyn, but it looks like the key players are at odds.

Pop Smoke shared a preview for an upcoming song last Sunday and took shots at fellow BK artists, Casanova, and Smoove L. “She love how I talk/She know that papi outside and she know I’m the king of New York… Niggas saying they outside/Send an addy we gonna slide/air out when we arrive,” the Dior rapper spit on the teaser. He took even more shots in the caption, “YALL OLD NIGGAS BETTER PACK IT UP,” Pop Smoke captioned the video. “THIS AINT NO TRASHANOVA SHIT NO SCARY L SHIT YALL KNOW THE WOOS RUN THE CITY YALL NIGGAS COULD NEVER BE ME.”

Smoke’s song is presumably a response to Casanova’s “Demons & Devils” featuring Fivio Foreign and Smoove L. He might have felt a way about Cas’ intro when he said, “They know we not playing, man. They know we outside for real, for real. We ain’t taking no shorts…” The “New Apollos” rapper had an aggressive verse with rap lines that could’ve possibly been aimed at Pop. “Shouldn’t let ’em put a battery in your back/Because that’ll get you clapped… I put the BKNY on my back,” Smoove raps on the song’s last verse.

Meek Mill apparently caught wind of the situation and is a firm supporter of the youth that comes out of the East Coast. “Y’all Brooklyn niggas be beefing wit each other too much lol.”

Meek Luther King has a point. New York rap is in dire need of camaraderie if they want to have any longevity. But New Yorkers are infamous for their big egos and bad attitudes.

“I see what a lot of y’all niggas is doing,” Smoke said on his Instagram Story after reposting several people listening to “Gatti.” “You think I don’t see it but I see y’all sucka niggas. Stop sucking d*ck and keep my fucking name out your mouth.”
