Men Who Posed as Wu-Tang Clan Members Scammed Hotels for More Than $100K in Atlanta

Two men were arrested after they posed as members of the Wu-Tang Clan in three different five star Georgia hotels, totaling over $100K in goods and services.

Aaron Barnes-Burpo and Walker Washington told hotel management at the Georgian Terrace Hotel and Hyatt Regency in Atlanta that hey were WTC members who were managed by Roc Nation. The two men drove a Rolls Royce Phantom and rented from A-National Limousine, totaling a whopping $60K. Barnes-Burpo and Washington also booked Atlanta-area studios like real rappers, racking up a $17K tab in unpaid studio time.

The duo were caught the third time in an Augusta, Georgia, where the hotel staff immediately caught on to their scam. Barnes-Burpo and Washington were charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft.

Kanye West Collaborator, Malik Yusef, Sued for Forging his Signature in Multi-Million Dollar Scam

Malik Yusef was reportedly sued by Korean fashion brand, Gentle Monster, for forging Kanye West’s signature on contracts and using fake invoices.

The clothing brand sued Yusef for using his relationship with Ye to deceive them to believe that he was searching for talent to do a video series titled, Project 13.

“From their earliest interactions with Gentle Monster, defendants went out of their way to describe Yusef’s star-studded connections,” Susan Leader, Gentle Monster’s attorney, wrote. “They never missed an opportunity to mention that Yusef routinely works with artists like Beyoncé and Kanye, that he tours with Jay–Z, or that he vacations with Pharrell Williams.”

The company claims Yusef swindled them to complete all transactions through him and leave out any agents. Gentle Monster paid Malik Yusef a whopping $2.5 million under the impression that he’ll be pulling in A-list influencers like Kanye, Pharell, Jaden Smith, and Paris Jackson.

“Defendants’ deception was both flagrant and brazen,” Leader continued. “Specifically, they forged Kanye’s signature, created a shell entity named after Kanye’s deceased mother, issued fraudulent invoices made to appear as though they had been issued by legitimate talent agencies, lied about their contacts and work with artists, and, in the end, pocketed more than $2.5 million from Gentle Monster.”

The clothing brand sued Yusef as well as his manager, and business parter, Burundi Partlow and Sonja Nutall, on claims of fraud, breach of contract, breach of the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing and unfair competition.

Kanye West Falls Victim to a New York Fashion Week Forgery Scam

While Kanye may be working on becoming a different person this year, specifically one that’s less politically-controversial after news broke that he’ll officially retire that ill-received MAGA hat, we doubt Mr. West was banking on giving up his previous identity altogether. Well, at the very least he wasn’t counting on someone forging his signature on docs to perform during New York Fashion Week, as was the case during a recent performance booking for the Phillipp Plein show.

According to TMZ, someone who ‘Ye previously did business with approached Philipp Plein behind his back and booked Kanye for an upcoming performance during the brand’s event for New York Fashion Week Men’s next Monday (February 11). However, Kanye had absolutely no idea about the show, as his wife Kim Kardashian West made publicly clear via Twitter (seen above). Read on to see how TMZ breaks down the whole ordeal:

“Plein apparently fell for it hook, line and sinker, and they made a deal wherein Kanye would supposedly pocket 7 figures and, in return, he would perform at the NYFW show.

It gets worse. We’re told the guy forged Kanye’s name on the contract and then had a $900,000 advance wired to an account … which the guy promptly cleaned out.”

The unidentified person at the center of all this is reportedly a former friend of Kanye and past associate of G.O.O.D. Music. We can only hope that Plein had some sort of insurance to get his hefty down payment back, or at the very least homeboy gets caught before he can spend it all in one weekend.

This is a wild report that we hope gets settled fairly and dealt with promptly. Who’s the real victim here? Let us know your thoughts over on Facebook and Twitter!
