NYPD Requests The Removal Of Drill Rappers From Rolling Loud New York Lineup

rolling loud new york

In a new report by the New York Times, the NYPD has asked Rolling Loud New York organizers to remove drill rappers from the festival lineup.

A few drill rappers who were set to perform told the Times that they were removed from the lineup. Those removed include Bronx artists Sha Ek and Ron Suno, as well as Brooklyn artist 22Gz. Their removal comes just one day before the 3-day long festival is set to start.

However, this is not the first time in which the NYPD has asked for organizers to remove drill rappers from their lineup. A similar incident occured in 2019 where event organizers recieved a letter from the NYPD requesting for the removal of 22Gz, Pop Smoke, Casanova, Sheff G, and Don Q.

“The above listed performers have been affiliated with recent acts of violence citywide,” the letter read. “The New York City Police Department believes that if these individuals are allowed to perform, there will be a higher risk of violence.”

This comes as lawmakers, and even the newly elected mayor of New York, Eric Adams, have started to crack down on drill music for the violence it perpetuates both within and outside of music.

“We pulled Trump off Twitter because of what he was spewing, yet we are allowing music, displaying of guns, violence, we are allowing it to stay on the site, because look at the victims,” Adams said in February. “We’re bringing them in, we’re going to show exactly what is being displayed, and we are alarmed by it. We are alarmed by the use of social media to really over-proliferate this violence in our communities.”

In a statement to the NYT, 22G’z record label confirmed that he had been dropped from the lineup. However, the rapper is currently facing attempted murder charges for a shooting that left 3 people injured.

Representatives for Sha Ek and Suno told the NYT that the decision to remove the artists was uncalled for.

Sha Ek’s manager, Stanley “Noodles” Davis, told the Times, “The police try to associate what he’s doing with violence and negativity. They don’t respect that he’s an artist and entertainer trying to better himself and feed his family at 19 years old. Sha Ek has performed all over the Northeast this year. The crowds at his concerts are full of kids dancing and having fun. He’s excited to keep growing his touring business and proving the police wrong.”

Suno’s manager, Diamond Brown, also commented on the situation, saying “How can a person who has no criminal record and no gang ties — the kid never even made a diss record — be denied to perform in his hometown after all his hard work?”

Rolling Loud New York is set to start tomorrow at Citi Field Stadium. The festival is set to be headlined by Nicki Minaj, ASAP Rocky, and Future.

WATCH: Why Rolling Loud NYC Was the Biggest Party to Ever Hit Queens, NYC!

Rolling Loud makes for one of the best double entendres, whether you think of it as the highest grade ganja or literally rolling to a dope festival and hearing your favorite rappers live and in loud action!

For the first time since its inception in Miami, Rolling Loud finally touched down with the vibes in NYC! The entrance was decorated with palm trees to give us the Cali/Miami feels that most people are used to during festival season.  Known for being held in the most tropical places, Rolling Loud decided to go in a different route by decorating the VIP section with the grime of NYC. Festival goers enjoyed subway turnstiles, fake rats and roaches as props to make us New Yorkers feel right at home.

Headlining acts included Travis Scott, A$AP Rocky, Meek Mill, Wu-Tang Clan and Lil Uzi Vert amongst the over 90 other artists that filled the two-day lineup. Of course, New York natives A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Sheck Wes and a slew of others also performed.

About three hours into Day 1, the news traveled that 22GZ, Casanova, Pop Smoke, Sheff G and Don Q were pulled from the lineup by NYPD. This was a bummer to most localists that were looking forward to seeing them, but that didn’t slow down the weekend of non-stop partying and mosh pits.

Rolling Loud had some pretty unique activations, including a Beauty Bar in VIP to keep your glam up to par throughout the weekend. Action Bronson’s ice cream shop and gaming booth was also a hit for gamers in the festival. Additionally, there were several photo ops with unique artsy installations throughout the festival.

The vibes were surprisingly cool, calm and swaggy — basically, it was just like us New Yorkers. Cheers to Rolling Loud for hosting a successful weekend in NYC. We’ll certainly welcome you again!

NYPD Requests Casanova, Pop Smoke, Don Q, 22GZ, and Sheff G to be Removed from Inaugural Rolling Loud New York Festival

Rolling Loud came to New York last weekend for the first time. The Hip Hop police took what they felt were necessary precautions to ensure that it was a safe and enjoyable weeked.

The lineup includes Wu-Tang Clan, Travis Scott, Meek Mill, A$AP Rocky, DMX, Fat Joe, Playboi Carti, YG, Gunna, Trippie Redd, DaBaby, Blueface, Sheck Wes, Juice WRLD, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Young Thug, Pusha T, Action Bronson, Denzel Curry, Megan Thee Stallion, Rico Nasty, Dave East, Saweetie, Melii, Jay Critch, Young M.A, Maliibu Miitch, $uicideboy$, Conway the Machine, Kemba, City Morgue, Anik Khan, Curren$y, Pardison Fontaine, Kash Doll, Smoke DZA, Wale, Desiigner, Ski Mask The Slump God, Lil Tjay, Lil Skies, Moneybag Yo, and many more.

The organizers said not to expect Lil Uzi Vert on Sunday, but they didn’t announce not to expect majority of the New York rappers on the bill.

Two Bees TV obtained documents from the NYPD intended for the listed acts banning them from the show they were all scheduled to perform at. Casanova, Pop Smoke, Don Q, Sheff G, and 22 GZ have all been removed from the lineup per NYPD request.

The reason stated in the document is they’re “affiliated with recent acts of violence citywide. The New York City Police Department believes if these individuals are allowed to perform, there will be a higher risk of violence.”

Were you looking forward to seeing NY rappers take the stage at Rolling Loud NY?
