Ricky Martin Admits He Has PTSD From Barbara Walters Interview: ‘I Was Just Not Ready To Come Out’

Ricky Martin Admits He Has PTSD From Barbara Walters Interview: 'I Was Just Not Ready To Come Out'

Ricky Martin graced People Magazine‘s second annual pride issue and spoke candidly about his traumatizing interview with Barbara Walters.

The Puerto Rican pop star admitted that he has “a little PTSD” from the 2000 interview.

The moment that haunts him was when the journalist said, “You could stop these rumors. You could say, ‘Yes I am gay or no I’m not.’”

“When she dropped the question, I felt violated because I was just not ready to come out. I was very afraid,” Martin said. “There’s a little PTSD with that.”

The 49-year-old came out 10 years after that unforgettable interview.

“Sexuality is one complicated thing,” he said. “It’s not black and white. It’s filled with colors. When I was dating women, I was in love with women. It felt right, it felt beautiful. You can’t fake chemistry — the chemistry was there with them. I wasn’t misleading anyone.” Now, Martin is a “man with no secrets,” he said in the new interview. “When I came out, it just felt amazing.”

Ricky Martin is gearing up to release his 11th studio album, and the first single will be released next week.

G Herbo Launches ‘Swervin Through Stress’ Mental Health Initiative

G Herbo Launches 'Swervin Through Stress' Mental Health Initiative

G-Herbo is getting more involved in mental wellness launching “Swervin Through Stress,” a mental health initiative for young people who struggle with post-traumatic stress disorder. In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, Herbo details the new initiative and why he chose to do it.

“I (saw) my first murder at nine years old. I was shot at 16 years old. Eighty percent of my friends, their mothers, fathers, grandmothers, grandfathers were hooked on drugs. I’ve seen 10 of my friends get murdered… just people from my neighborhood, we endure so much trauma on a day-to-day basis and it’s normalized. We don’t even grieve. We don’t even think twice about it,” Herbo said.

The goal of STS is to make available mental health professionals for young Black men and women who otherwise would not have access to therapy. According to the Tribune, the Dream Team Therapy Fund will cover the cost of three months of therapy sessions for people between the ages of 18-25 with the ultimate goal of providing therapy for 150,000 young people.

“You deserve that. You’re supposed to have that as a kid — a support system growing up. And I don’t think we realize how many of us don’t, so I want to spread light on that to show people that there are so many kids that need your help that you overlook every single day,” Herbo told the Tribune.

Since G Herbo, formerly Lil Herb, got his start in rap he has been open about the trauma he experienced in Chicago growing up. Getting involved in the streets in his teens, the 24-year-old rapper has never attempted to glorify the events that happened in his life while still telling his story in his music.

Throughout his latest album PTSD Herbo details his personal struggles with post traumatic stress disorder.

G Herbo PTSD Artwork

Chicago rapper G Herbo has 500,000 reasons to smile from ear to ear. The hip-hop star went online this week to celebrate his PTSD album going gold.

Look and comment below!

“GOT MY FIRST GOLD SINGLE TODAY! LONG LIVE MY LIL BROTHER @juicewrld999❤ & THANK YOU @chancetherapper@liluzivert‼ #PTSD LETS GO PLATINUM” -G Herbo’s Instagram

G Herbo’s hit single “PTSD” [feat. Chance the RapperJuice WRLDLil Uzi Vert] just received a gold certification from the RIAA. This marks his very first gold single. “PTSD” is the title track from his chart-topping and critically acclaimed new album, PTSD, available now.

Already, the song has posted up over 44.7 million Spotify and counting, in addition to 12.6 million YouTube views and counting on the static audio. Additionally, The Fader proclaimed it one of the The 10 Best New Rap Songs Right Now upon arrival.

The album has also become one of the biggest critical successes of the year so far. Rolling Stone claimed, “‘PTSD’ is an evolution of the themes that have always defined his work.”NPR wrote, G Herbo‘s new album PTSD contains more than one mask drop. Its animating emotion is empathy for theyoung men and women surviving terror and violence of those sections of Chicago with very few options.” HYPEBEAST detailed how, G Herbo delivers intimate street allegories on his new album ‘PTSD,” and Pitchfork put it best, “‘PTSD’ stays true to Herb’s core: first-hand tales of living with trauma and paranoia.”

Further acclaim came from PeopleBillboardXXLComplex, and HipHopDX who dubbed it his “most cohesive project yet.

With this accolade and more to come, G Herbo solidifies his place at the top of hip-hop in 2020.

PTSD makes a statement for Herbo as he encourages listeners everywhere to speak freely about their trials and tribulations with mental health and also urges them to get help when necessary. As a whole, PTSD tours the darkest corners of a psyche damaged by the everlasting cycle of inner city violence as witnessed firsthand by Herbo. On the gruff and gritty “Intro, he spits with purpose, passion, and power. From the jump, he announces, “I do it for the haves and have-nots, as nineties production glistens. The intensity only ramps up from there on “Glass In The Face” [feat. A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie]. A centerpiece of the record, “PTSD” [feat. Juice WRLDChance the Rapper and Lil Uzi Vert] unfolds as an emotionally charged confession, bringing together three of Chicago’s most influential voices—the late Juice WrldChance, and Herbo—and elusive Philadelphia multiplatinum star Lil Uzi Vert. It paints a picture of urban decay and highlights a pervasive theme with the declaration, “Don’t stand too close to me, I got PTSD.” Meanwhile, soul samples bleed into a crossfire between Herbo and 21 Savage on “By Any Means.” Everything culminates on “Intuition” [feat. 2PRETTY Sonta]. It offers a peek at the light at the end of the tunnel with heavenly vocals, a skittering beat, and one final lyrical catharsis.

G Herbo Opens Up About His Mental Health and Seeking Therapy

Chicago’s G Herbo is gearing up to release his new album, PSTD on February 28th. The cover art for the album has fans anticipating the new music as it depicts an interesting photo of the 24-year-old holding an American flag. The flag appears to be shot through will bleeding effects, replacing the 50 states with lost loved ones of the “Who Run It” rapper.

In a phone conversation with HipHopDX G Herbo said: “When the lawyer told me to go see the therapist, it was really just me embracing it. I think I was already aware of the issue, and why I even had to get arrested or have to carry a gun in the first place.”

The rapper his referring to his 2018 arrest, along with two other individuals after a limousine driver called the police on the group for having guns on their person.

“It’s like, we kind of don’t know that we suffer from these mental health issues. I’m a product of that. I was shot at. I seen my first murder at nine years old,” Herbo said. “A lot of this stuff that we encounter on a day-to-day basis, we think is normal just because it’s our reality. We think it’s something we’re supposed to be going through. I feel like in the poverty-stricken neighborhoods, a lot of us are suffering from PTSD. I thought it was important for me because I know it’s a lot of people who are like me.”

The rapper would then go into detail about his connection with rapper, 21 Savage, who will be featured on a song titled, “By Any Means.” He mentioned that the two share a similar background and are able to relate to similar situations. “We have had serious conversations about what we are to the people and just embracing it,” He began. “Our flaws and the shit that we’ve been through that made us make some of the good and bad decisions that we made in our life. We had those conversations before, and that’s kind of what inspired the record or what wanted me to put Savage on the record. I knew that it was a record that was true to him, as well as it’s true to me because we’ve been through a lot of the same stuff.”

In the meantime, The Chicago rap star has begun his PTSD tour, this month on the tenth. The tour will conclude on March 22, 2020.
