Meek Mill Announces He’s Officially Off Probation

Meek Mill is finally a free man.

The Philly rapper took to Instagram to announce that his decade-old conviction connected to a drug and gun case was thrown out by a Pennsylvania appeals court. “As of right now I’m not on probation and I am not a felon anymore 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 today was mega!!!” he wrote.

Three judges unanimously decided to grant the Dream Chasers head honcho a new trial due to new evidence of alleged police corruption. They also overturned Judge Genece Brinkley’s parole violation findings which sent him back to jail for five months in 2017.

Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner’s office stated they will not call the police officer who was the only witness during the prosecution because he’s no longer credible after being accused of corruption.

It’s looking like prosecutors can drop the entire case.

This wonderful news comes the same day that Meek Mill announced the launch of his new joint venture with JAY-Z’s Roc Nation, Dream Chasers Records. Meek will serve as the President where he will oversea the label and build the staff. “Creating a record label has always been the next step in my journey as a businessman and I appreciate Roc Nation and JAY-Z’s support on this new venture,” Mill said. “I want to take my experiences in the music industry, use them to find young, hungry talent and open doors for the next generation of artists.”

What’s Free: Meek Mill’s Lawyer Asks For 2008 Conviction To Be Dismissed

While Meek Mill continues to maximize his time as a free man he is still in a fight with the criminal system. His legal team is taking another route to get him off the hook.

Billboard is reporting that the Philadelphia MC’s lawyer will be requesting that his 2008 conviction be overturned at an appeals court today (July 16). The original charge was for gun and drug possession and has kept him on probation since. The arresting badge, Reginald Graham, claims he pointed a gun at them but Meek’s rendition of the story varies greatly.

But as previously reported the arresting officer’s account of the incident has come under question. The now retired lawman landed on a list of officers who the Philadelphia District Attorney’s office deemed as having credibility issues. The allegations include theft, misconduct and lying on the witness stand. Additionally Graham reportedly admitted to being dishonest when taking a lie detector test. He has since denied any wrongdoing in the “I’m A Boss” rapper’s arrest.

To make things even more convoluted the presiding judge’s integrity has also come into question for being biased against Meek. According to multiple sources, she once asked him to record a rendition of Boyz II Men’s “On Bended Knee.” When he turned her down she allegedly responded, “suit yourself.”

Meek’s team is asking that he be tried by a new magistrate; the office District Attorney Larry Krasner is also in agreement. Hopefully the state Superior Court will use some common sense when reviewing both requests.

Prosecutors Request That NBA YoungBoy’s Probation Be Revoked

For the second time within a year’s time, prosecutors are seeking to have probation revoked in the case of Baton Rouge rapper NBA YoungBoy.

YoungBoy, whose real name is Kentrell DeSean Gaulden, was sentenced to three years probation with a ten year suspended sentence in a 2016 drive-by shooting in Baton Rouge.

After his most recent arrest in Atlanta on February 11, prosecutors in his Louisiana case are asking that Gaulden be made to serve the suspended time.

YoungBoy’s lawyer offered a statement to the press, saying “An arrest is simply an allegation. Our position is he didn’t do anything wrong.” His lawyer are seeking to keep his current probation agreement in tact.

Meek Mill has been making his rounds during this current promotional run for his upcoming album. The “Amen” rapper recently paid a visit to The Ellen Show where he detailed the unfair hand the law has dealt him over the years.

After defeating Ellen in a game of ping-pong backstage, the Philadelphia MC opened up about his time in behind bars. Meek admitted that while on the inside he would often watch The Ellen Show. “They gave us the basic channels. Some days I found myself watching Ellen. Some days it was CNN and some days it was Ellen on,” he explained.

He gave DeGeneres the timeline of what led up to him being on probation for almost 12 years. “I really didn’t have any guidance and I was hanging around a bunch of the wrong people and I got caught up. When I went to see the bail judge he was like ‘you’re here for pointing a firearm at a police officer, selling drugs’. I was like ‘whoa whoa whoa, pointing a gun?’ I wouldn’t be here right now for pointing a gun at a police officer.”

When discussing his most recent five-month stint he admitted that he found out about his release on television. “I was in my cell. I’m watching the news [and they say] ‘Meek Mill is up for bail’. I dropped my food and jumped up in the air and I was leaving 10 minutes later.”

Meek’s new album Championships will be released at midnight tonight. You can view the interview in entirety below.

Meek Mill is gearing up for possibly the project of his life. He has confirmed the release of his fourth studio LP.

In an interview with Vogue Magazine the Philadelphia MC verifies that he will be dropping a new album before the close of 2018. As per HipHopDX the forthcoming but yet to be titled effort will be released November 30. He touches on the elephant in the room regarding the anticipation. “I’ve been writing myself since I was probably, what, 8 years old. I’ve been doing this a long time, so [there’s] always pressure to be better.”

The “1942 Flows” rapper also discussed his case and vows to change the probation system and the severe restrictions that are often applied to minority offenders. “Probation is like, they say, to help rehabilitate you and help you better yourself coming out of prison,” he explained. “In my mind, I never felt like I was f***ed up.” Meek says probation is “trap door that’s gonna keep you in and out of the system. You don’t even have to commit a crime to go back to prison.”

He also expressed his concern regarding the poor conditions in prisons which a lot of the time cause inmates to receive incremental time. “I had to f***ing almost turn into a savage myself to even stay alive.”

At this time there are no further details on the album. In the meantime you can purchase merchandising bundles on his website. You can read the entire Vogue feature here.

Tekashi69 Gets 4 Years Probation In Child Sex Case, Now Known As Daniel Hernandez

Tekashi69, sometimes stylized as Tekashi 6ix9ine, dodged a major prison bullet in a child sex case that happened well before his current level of fame. For the 2015 case, the rapper born Daniel Hernandez was given four years probation, shortened by one year, and has to stay out of trouble the entire time or else.

TMZ exclusively reports:

Tekashi was tight-lipped walking into the NYC courthouse Friday to get his sentence. The judge gave him 4 years probation … which is exactly what the rapper’s team had requested. The courtroom, packed with his entourage, erupted in cheers.

Afterward, he addressed the judge directly and embraced his government name, saying he’s Daniel Hernandez, not Tekashi69. He added, “I have millions of youth that look at me as a role model and the last place I want to be is incarcerated, they don’t deserve it. Thank you.”

The judge gave him credit for one year, so he effectively only has 3 years of probation left. He’ll also have to perform 1,000 hours of community service, and refrain from associating with any gang members and avoid all gang activity. That part might be difficult — he’s repped the Bloods in several music videos.

The case stems from when Tekashi was 18 at a party in Harlem while a 13-year-old girl engaged in sexual acts with another man. Tekashi wasn’t seen engaging in acts, but he was seen smacking the nude girl on the bottom and laughing. It appears his legal team is sticking close to him and making sure that Hernandez keeps away from the Bloods gang that he’s affiliated with as well.

Bill Cosby Could Receive Up To 36 Years In Prison Or Just Probation At Sexual Assault Sentencing

Bill Cosby was found guilty of sexual assault in April and now the 81-year-old famed comedian will face his fate this week for the sexual assault against Andrea Constand at his suburban Philadelphia home in 2004.

Due to be sentenced in the coming days, he could face probation, house arrest or be sent to prison for up to 30 years.

The guilty verdict came after Cosby was accused by dozens of women for sexual misconduct, stemming from over the decades, however, Constand’s allegations are the only ones that have resulted in criminal charges.

The jury, made up of seven men and five women, deliberated for 14 hours in April following the two-week retrial at Montgomery County Courthouse in Norristown, Pennsylvania. The jurors spent 12 days hearing lawyers’ arguments and testimony from witnesses, including Constand and five other women, who claimed they were also drugged and sexually assaulted by the comedian.

In terms of his sentence, each of the three counts carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, meaning he could potentially be handed a 30 year sentence, although this isn’t likely to happen. Even if he was handed these sentences they would likely be served concurrently, meaning he could only be in prison for a maximum of 10 years.

Retired New Jersey superior court judge Michael Donio told reporters that an average person with no criminal record would get around five years in prison for these crimes, however, given Cosby’s age, charitable work and testimony from other women during the case and the time that has elapsed since the assault took place, he will likely receive less. There is also the possibility of house arrest due to Cosby saying he is completely blind.

Suge Knight Reportedly Sentenced to 28 Years in Prison for Hit-and-Run Case

Suge Knight has finally struck a plea deal in his 2015 murder case.

TMZ broke the news just days before his trial was scheduled to begin. Several outlets confirmed that the infamous Hip Hop mogul was sentenced to 28 years after pleading no contest to voluntary manslaughter in the death of Terry Carter.

Knight was facing life in jail over a savage attempt at manslaughter that occurred in a Southern California parking area. Knight was blamed for intentionally running over Carter and Cle “Bone” Sloan following a heated discussion on the set of Straight Outta Compton. The incident left Sloan hospitalized and Carter dead.

Surveillance video showed the Death Row Records CEO hitting the two victims with his vehicle; nonetheless, he initially insisted that he hit them out of self defense and was just attempting to escape from Carter and Sloan.

As indicated by TMZ, Knight will get credit for the three and half years he’s as of now served. He will likewise be set on three years of probation following his jail release.
