HHW Gaming: Nintendo Announces Super Mario Party Update, Gaming Fans Are Super Star Lit

Gaming World Highlights At Gamescom 2018

Source: Bloomberg / Getty

Since launching in 2017, the Nintendo Switch has transformed the handheld gaming experience with its hybrid console and tablet-like configuration. One of the system’s top party games, Super Mario Party, just got a pretty nifty update that most Nintendo fans are seemingly excited about.

The Nintendo team announced the change via Twitter and also their support page, laying out the new features coming to the popular party game. Given that this is the first update for the game in well over two years and just the second overall, the news is certainly big for Switch users.

Check out the update notes below:

You can now play the following modes over the internet:

・Mario Party

・Partner Party

Free Play (Minigames)

Important: To play over the internet, a subscription to the paid Nintendo Switch Online service is required.

Playing over the internet

To play over the internet, select either Mario Party, Partner Party, or Minigames, then select Online Play.

There are two ways to play over the internet: Friend Match, where you can play with Friends, and Private Game, where you can play with anyone using passwords.

The combinations through which you can play over the internet are as follows:

・Up to 1 player per system (you can play with between 2 and 4 players)

・Up to 2 players per system (you can play with between 3 and 4 players)

If two players are each playing on their own systems, they cannot play with two players using a third system.

Playing over the internet supports the Invite Friend feature. If you select Invite Friend on the screen at which you’re waiting for rivals, your selected Friends can join from the Online Play Invites on their user-page icon in the top left of the HOME Menu.

・Online Mariothon does not support the Invite Friend feature.

When playing over the internet, all 20 characters and all maps are available, regardless of your current in-game progress.

When playing over the internet, 70 of the total 80 minigames are available to play.

The following 10 minigames are not available when playing over the internet.

・Strike It Rich

・Time to Shine

・Take a Stab

・All-Star Swingers

・Rhythm and Bruise

・Pep Rally

・Wiped Out

・Fiddler on the Hoof

・Clearing the Table

・Baton and On

Play data won’t be saved when playing over the internet.

Super Mario Party did have online play prior to this update but the feature was limited to just a handful of the minigames. This effectively opens up the world of Super Mario Party to a global pool of co-players and competitors, and the joy and requisite hate that’s being expressed on Twitter at the moment is impassioned and comical at times.

Check out those reactions below.

Now Nintendo of America has confirmed an employee has tested positive for COVID-19.

The information was discovered in a live blog the Seattle Times is currently running that provides information on COVID-19 for residents in the Seattle area, Washington State, and the nation. It was discovered in those updates that one Nintendo employee from Nintendo of America’s offices located in Redmond tested positive for coronavirus.

“Nintendo of America has taken the precautionary step to allow NOA employees in the states of California and Washington the opportunity to work from home. The safety and well-being of our employees is our top priority. We are continuing to closely monitor COVID-19 developments and share our concerns and support for those affected by the COVID-19 outbreak.”

As a precaution to prevent further spread, Nintendo confirmed to Kotaku that it is allowing employees in America to work from home.

We Would Like To See It: Nintendo Will Reportedly Drop A Switch Pro With 4K Capabilty

Nintendo To Drop A Switch Pro Model With 4K Support: Report

Source: SOPA Images / Getty

With news of Sony’s PS5 allegedly featuring a “remastering engine” to enhance its rumored backwards compatibility feature and Microsoft pulling the lid off the Xbox Series X, Nintendo might also be making a splash in 2020.

According to Kantan Games’ Serkan Toto, as part of Games Industry’s yearly analyst predictions, Nintendo will look to compete with the Sony’s PS5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X with a Pro model of the insanely popular hybrid model the Nintendo Switch. According to Toto — who accurately predicted the Switch Lite, Nintendo’s next Switch model will have 4K support, use bigger cartridges, plus other upgrades, and it will cost $399.

Per Games Industry:

“There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Nintendo will launch a “Switch Pro” in 2020, my guess is at $399. More specifically, I predict 4K support, bigger cartridge sizes, and of course, beefed-up components. I also think the device will launch after the summer holidays to counter the roll-out of the PS5 and next-gen Xbox later in the year – along with a first-party, system-seller game.”

Soto also predicts we could get see more Microsoft games on the Nintendo Switch this year but isn’t too sure that xCloud will arrive on the device in 2020.

“The love affair between Microsoft and Nintendo is likely to continue, with more big Xbox games landing on the Switch. I am skeptical about xCloud coming to the Nintendo device in 2020, however.”

Toto also predicts that Nintendo will bring N64 games to Switch Online, and we should expect another big mobile release as well, like a “Zelda app or Smash Bros (bold prediction) that could be co-developed with a new partner.

According to Toto, it sounds like Nintendo is set to have another prosperous year.

Nintendo Game Boy Turns 30, Video Game Twitter Celebrates The Momentus Occassion

Feel Old?: Twitter Celebrates The Nintendo Game Boy Turing 30

Source: Ralf-Finn Hestoft / Getty

Can you believe it? It’s really been 30 years since Nintendo first introduced to the world the portable wonder that is the Gameboy. Feel old right?  Since it’s momentous inception, the device has gone through numerous changes as technology improved and now today gamers are celebrating its birthday.

The Game Boy crawled, walked and ran so the Nintendo Switch could fly!

We all can remember the first time we powered up the clunky unit and watched the iconic Nintendo logo scroll down to the middle of the screen before booting up whatever game was loaded in. It was a marvel in its day and outlasted all of the competition who sported better innovations like the Sega Game Gear and Atari Lynx’s color screens thanks to its better library of games.

Video game Twitter took a stroll down memory lane to celebrate the Game Boy’s April 21st release back in 1989 sharing memories and thanking the company that gave us Mario and The Legend of Zelda. The portable console is a true testament to Nintendo’s innovation being that it’s still one of the most beloved pieces of technology due to the fact it changed gaming forever.

So join in on the nostalgia by checking the gallery below and tell us in the comment section what was your favorite Nintendo Game Boy games. I’ll get things started with Super Mario Land, Tetris, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, Pokémon, Metroid II: Return of Samus, Kirby’s Dream Land, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of The Footclan and Dr. Mario.

Paris Games Week 2017 : Day One At Porte De Versailles In Paris

Source: Chesnot / Getty

Nintendo revealed it is stepping back in the world of virtual reality once again when it surprised fans with the announcement of the Labo VR kit.

No, this is definitely not the failed Virtual Boy console.

Announced on Thursday (Apr.4) the new interactive kit will launch on April 12 and will bring VR to the Nintendo Switch console. Users will be able to build Toy-Con VR goggles that attach to the hybrid console. Alongside the announcement of the latest Labo kit, Nintendo announced that two of its most popular titles Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild will be getting free updates to take utilizing the new virtual reality components.

Once the Nintendo Labo VR kit is constructed, gamers will be able to play mini-games like getting up close and personal with wildlife and taking pictures of them, flying with birds and shooting at creatures with a blaster. Players can look forward to three new mini-missions as well as VR versions of Cap, Seaside and Luncheon kingdoms in Super Mario Odyssey.

As far as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the free update will reimagine the world of Hyrule in Virtual Reality. No word if there any specific missions or mini-games but fans could look forward to another reason for playing the epic game once again.

The Nintendo Labo VR Kit will cost $79.99 and will come with six separate accessories including camera, Toy-Con goggles, bird, wind pedal, elephant and blaster. This news follows the recent revelation that Nintendo is gearing up to launch two new Nintendo Switch consoles this year as well.

Nintendo Presses Pause Button On ‘Metroid Prime 4’, Retro Studios To Take Over Development

Metroid

Source: Nintendo / Nintendo

If you were one of the many of people excited about Metroid Prime 4 you will find this news somewhat disappointing. Today (Jan 25), Nintendo’s senior managing executive officer Shinya Takahashi announced via a YouTube video statement the game will be delayed.

Nintendo is hitting the reset button on the game and entirely rebooting it, Retro Studios the original developer behind the Metroid Prime series will be taking over. In the YouTube video statement, Takashi states:

“The current development progress has not reached the standards we seek in a sequel to the Metroid Prime series. Nintendo always strives for the highest quality in our games; and in the development phase, we challenge ourselves and confront whether the game is living up to that quality on a daily basis.”

“We have decided to reexamine the development structure itself and change it. Specifically, we have asked the producer, Kensuke Tanabe, [to] work in trust and collaboration with the studio that developed the original Metroid Prime series, Retro Studios in the United States, and restart development from the beginning. By collaborating and developing with Retro Studios, we believe we can make this game something that will meet our fans’ expectations.”

“We did not make this decision lightly. This change will essentially mean restarting development from the beginning, so the completion of the game will be delayed from our initial internal plan. We strongly recognize that this delay will come as a disappointment to the many fans who have been looking forward to the launch of Metroid Prime 4.”

Metroid Prime 4 was first announced for the Nintendo Switch at E3 2017 to much fanfare. Since it was revealed, Nintendo opted to stay mum on the title at E3 2018 and didn’t share footage of the game claiming it did not want to tease fans until the game was near or close to completion. This news does feel like a punch in a gut, BUT on the bright side, we are for the honesty from Nintendo and the commitment to deliver the Metroid Prime game fans want. At least we got Super Smash Bros. Ultimate to hold us over for a while.

You can watch Shinya Takahashi’s full statement on the game’s delay below.

Game Over: Nintendo Will Be Moving On From Retro Consoles After This Year

A Nintendo Classic Mini 'Nintendo Entertainment System'...

Source: SOPA Images / Getty

Nintendo set the gaming world ablaze with the release of its two retro consoles the NES and SNES Classic. If you haven’t gotten your hands on one and still want to, this upcoming holiday season will be your last chance to do so.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Nintendo’s President and CEO Reggie Fils-Aime pretty much confirmed the company will be moving on from retro consoles in 2019. So if you had high hopes of a Nintendo 64 Classic coming out its a safe bet that won’t be happening. Aime clearly states in the interview that the current slate of retro consoles was the “extent of our classic program.” “These products are going to be available through the holiday season and once they sell out, they’re gone. And that’s it,” he added.

Nintendo fans still interested in playing the companies classic NES games should concentrate their focus on the games supplied via Nintendo Switch Online he points out. While the company’s plan when it came to the launch of its retro consoles was shaky, this move isn’t that surprising. Of course, they would instead rather you purchase a Switch which is the fastest selling home console of all time in the US selling over 20 million units to play classic games in it’s growing the online library.

While you will no longer be able to own a physical retro console (which I think was a money grab) who’s to say you won’t be able to play the NES, SNES, N64, and possibly GameCube games you loved on your Nintendo Switch in the. Besides Super Smash Bros Ultimate is taking up most of your time anyway.

Twitter Reacts To ‘Mario Kart’ & Toad Trending For All The Wrong Reasons #MarioKart

Twitter Reacts To Mario Kart & Toad Trending For All The Wrong Reasons

Source: Keith Tsuji / Getty

Yup, it is confirmed anything associated with the orange menace, Donald J.Trump does indeed either die or is ruined. Today (Sept. 18), Twitter users learned not even their favorite Nintendo game is safe from the slimy tentacles of our “President.”

Folks hopped on Twitter today and saw the fan-favorite Nintendo racing game Mario Kart and the popular character Toad trending thinking they were getting a new game. Their excitement quickly turned to disgust when they learned that adult actress and one of Trump’s mistresses Stormy Daniels used the game and the character to describe his man parts.

The Twitter account for Nintendo Life didn’t quite pick up on the moment and tweeted prematurely that the game and character were both trending on the social media platform. They have since issued an apology blaming a social media intern joking “he will be collecting covfefe for the rest of the week!”

While the cat is now out of the bag and we will never be able to look at Toad the same ever again, the reactions to users searching Mario Kart is absolutely hilarious. We may not be getting a new game in the famed racing video game franchise, but we definitely got a classic Twitter moment.

Hit the gallery below to see the most hilarious and accurate reactions to Stormy Daniels’ description of Trump’s manhood.
