HHW Gaming: ‘Mortal Kombat’ & ‘Injustice’ Studio Working On New Marvel Fighting Game: Report

NetherRealm Studios Reportedly Working On New Marvel Fighting Game

Source: Bernard Smalls / @PhotosByBeanz83

A new Marvel-based fighting game? Made by the same studio that brought us Mortal Kombat 11 and Injustice? WE WOULD LOVE TO SEE IT.

According to the digital grapevine, a new Marvel fighting game is in the works, and NetherRealm Studio is allegedly behind it.  If this is indeed the case, it will be the first game since 2017’s Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite and would mean that NetherRealm is not currently working on the follow-up to Injustice 2: Gods Among Us.

The report comes from Daniel Richtman (via Stealth Optional) and doesn’t bear much in the form of details, so please take all of this with the tiniest grain of salt while at the same time being excited at the possibility that such a game could exist. Richtman says that the game is currently in development for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and possibly PC. There is a solid chance that PS4 and Xbox One owners won’t even get a chance to stiff this game.

For those who have been thirsting for Injustice 3, this news might not sit well with you because it means NetherRealm is putting all of its focus into this rumored Marvel game. But, Comicbook.com is adding more fuel to the fire by suggesting there is a slight possibility that NetherRealm could be working on a Marvel vs. DC fighting game.

That would be crazy.

Again, this is just mere speculation, but something definitely worth keeping in the back of your mind. Crazier things have happened.

HHW Gaming: Basketball & Video Games Collide With ANTA x HyperX’s Gordon Hayward Limited-Edition Bundle

ANTA x HyperX Team Up For Gordon Hayward Limited-Edition Sneaker

Source: Bernard Smalls / ANTA x HyperX

Athletic wear and gaming have gone hand in hand as of late, so this latest collaboration between ANTA and HyperX makes all the sense in the world.

The two companies have one thing in common, they both work with Boston Celtic forward Gordon Hayward, so the decision to work together on this limited-edition box was a no-brainer. It brings together the two things that Hayward love’s to do, and that is playing basketball and gaming.

Inside the box is a limited-edition pair of Hayward’s signature basketball sneakers from ANTA, the GH2 “HyperX” and HyperX Cloud Alpha gaming headset. The sneakers feature some unique gaming-inspired details that help them easily stand out from other shoe silhouettes. The GH2 are draped in HyperX’s black and red colorways and have a unique printing process that showcases black-red gradient effects.

The inspiration behind the design is pulled straight from the circuit board that you can find inside HyperX’s products like headsets, keyboards, mice, and the HyperX logo, which can be found on the shoe’s heel pictured above.

Wearers can see the word “GAMER” on the lacing system, and it showcases the partnership between HyperX x ANTA.

Speaking about the limited-edition collaboration Dustin Illingworth, head of influencers and esports at HyperX, added:

“We are thrilled to be working with ANTA on this limited-edition HyperX x ANTA Gordon Hayward box. HyperX joins forces with ANTA to showcase Hayward’s passion for basketball and esports with a collection that reflects his love for the game, on and off the court, and captures the HyperX core belief – WE’RE ALL GAMERS.”

As far as getting your hands on the bundle, you might be out of luck in that department. Only a few were made and given away in a contest. If you come across one, you might have to pay a grip, BUT you can purchase the sneakers directly from China through ANTA’s website for only $160.

We look forward to more collaborations between the companies and hope they continue to look this good.

HHW Gaming: Nintendo Announces Super Mario Party Update, Gaming Fans Are Super Star Lit

Gaming World Highlights At Gamescom 2018

Source: Bloomberg / Getty

Since launching in 2017, the Nintendo Switch has transformed the handheld gaming experience with its hybrid console and tablet-like configuration. One of the system’s top party games, Super Mario Party, just got a pretty nifty update that most Nintendo fans are seemingly excited about.

The Nintendo team announced the change via Twitter and also their support page, laying out the new features coming to the popular party game. Given that this is the first update for the game in well over two years and just the second overall, the news is certainly big for Switch users.

Check out the update notes below:

You can now play the following modes over the internet:

・Mario Party

・Partner Party

Free Play (Minigames)

Important: To play over the internet, a subscription to the paid Nintendo Switch Online service is required.

Playing over the internet

To play over the internet, select either Mario Party, Partner Party, or Minigames, then select Online Play.

There are two ways to play over the internet: Friend Match, where you can play with Friends, and Private Game, where you can play with anyone using passwords.

The combinations through which you can play over the internet are as follows:

・Up to 1 player per system (you can play with between 2 and 4 players)

・Up to 2 players per system (you can play with between 3 and 4 players)

If two players are each playing on their own systems, they cannot play with two players using a third system.

Playing over the internet supports the Invite Friend feature. If you select Invite Friend on the screen at which you’re waiting for rivals, your selected Friends can join from the Online Play Invites on their user-page icon in the top left of the HOME Menu.

・Online Mariothon does not support the Invite Friend feature.

When playing over the internet, all 20 characters and all maps are available, regardless of your current in-game progress.

When playing over the internet, 70 of the total 80 minigames are available to play.

The following 10 minigames are not available when playing over the internet.

・Strike It Rich

・Time to Shine

・Take a Stab

・All-Star Swingers

・Rhythm and Bruise

・Pep Rally

・Wiped Out

・Fiddler on the Hoof

・Clearing the Table

・Baton and On

Play data won’t be saved when playing over the internet.

Super Mario Party did have online play prior to this update but the feature was limited to just a handful of the minigames. This effectively opens up the world of Super Mario Party to a global pool of co-players and competitors, and the joy and requisite hate that’s being expressed on Twitter at the moment is impassioned and comical at times.

Check out those reactions below.

HHW Gaming: The Video Game Industry Found Its Way Into The Oscars Thanks To Huge Win

Short Documentary Featured In 'Medal of Honor' Video Game Won An A Oscar

Source: Handout / Getty

Unfortunately, The Academy has yet to acknowledge video games as a medium worthy of an Oscar, but the video game industry might have just found its way in.

Some video games are basically like films. Both have scripts, great stories, with amazing actors and actresses bringing characters to life. The only difference is you can directly interact with one, while viewers can only observe movies. That’s not enough to win a coveted Oscar award…yet, but video games did find a way to be recognized on Hollywood’s biggest night.

Sunday night (Apr.25), during The Oscars, the documentary short Colette won an Academy Award, a huge first for the video game industry. The doc was originally produced by Oculus Studios and EA’s Respawn Entertainment and was featured in the first-person shooter VR game Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond. The game is widely recognized for its historical accuracy, and keeping with that theme, players can unlock short “Gallery” films highlighting real World War II vets as they progress through the game.

Colette, which is directed by Anthony Giacchino, which is one of those “Gallery” films, tells the story of 90-year-old Colette Marin-Catherine, one of the last surviving French Resistance members. In the film, she is convinced by a young history student, Lucie Fouble, to return to Germany after vowing never to return to the country. Once there, she visits the Nazi concentration camp where her brother, Jean-Pierre, was sadly killed.

It was acquired and distributed by The Guardian and won the award for best short film at the Big Sky Festival, which made it eligible for Oscar contention. The film went on to win the gold statuette, not only making it the first Oscar-related video game win but a first for The Guardian as well.

In a statement speaking on the historical win, Oculus Studios director of production Mike Doran said in a statement, “The real hero here is Colette herself, who has shared her story with integrity and strength.” He further added,  “As we see in the film, resistance takes courage, but facing one’s past may take even more. Allowing us to preserve this pilgrimage for future generations was a true act of bravery and trust.”

A huge win for the video game industry.

HHW Gaming Review: ‘Skelattack’ A Fun, Charming But Deceptively Challenging Indie Adventure

HHW Gaming Review: 'Skelattack'

Source: Konami / Ukuza Inc.

When it comes to video games every now and then, you come across a hidden gem. Skelattack is one of those games.

Konami has been looking for a hit since Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain but failed to follow up that success dropping Metal Gear Survive and Contra: Rogue Corps, which were panned by critics and gamers. Rightfully so. Instead of one of its big-name titles delivering the goods, Konami has got itself a win with an indie title from Ukuza Inc.

The brainchild of David Stanley, Skelattack, is a unique, beautifully designed game that features lovable characters, well thought out levels complimented with a charming story. In the game, you take control of the hero Skully on the eve of his remembrance day. On this special occasion, the undead citizens of the Aftervale are reminded of their former lives before they passed to the other side. Skully’s day is interrupted when humans from the kingdom above invade. Instead of stealing the treasures the Aftervale holds, the humans kidnap the village elder skeleton Elzedon and take the magic called the Blue Flame that helps bring the undead spirits back to life. With the help of his trusty bat companion Imber, Skully sets out on an adventure to save Elzedon and stop the human’s plot dead (no pun intended) in its tracks.

At first glance, Skelattack looks like another cute platformer, but that just hides the fact that it’s deceptively challenging. As you take Skully to the different dungeons, you will encounter a variety of enemies. Crocodiles, sword-wielding knights, ax throwing barbarians, bugs, whose sole purpose is to keep you from reaching your goal. But that’s not all, dangerous traps like crossbows, different variations of spikes, giant guillotines, fireballs, and more will make your life absolutely miserable while playing Skelattack and if you’re not careful will kill either Skully or Imber instantly.

Now I cannot sugarcoat this, but you’re going to die, A LOT, playing this game. In fact, the game hilariously makes light of how many times you have perished while on your mission to save the Aftevale. As a matter of fact, my go around with the game the pesky spikes contributed to my frustrations and had me shaking my Nintendo Switch. Thank goodness the game counters the high death rates with saving locations where Skully and Imber can respawn and are usually not too far from where you met your doom.

Like most platformers that allow you to revisit areas, Skelly starts off bare-bones when it comes to skills and just armed with a sword. As you progress through the game, you will be able to upgrade your weapon and learn new abilities that will help make your mission not as painstakingly difficult.

Skelattack

Source: Konami / Ukuza Inc.

As for the controls, they are straightforward and responsive. Outside of your buddy Imber, jumping is your next best friend in the game and will help you get certain areas and avoiding enemies and traps.

Final Verdict:

For only $19.99, Skelattack was a fun, enjoyable, and extremely challenging experience. It proves that not only the big studio titles are worth your time, and these indie developers are really putting in the work to put out great games. If you’re into games with rewarding experiences, Skelattack should definitely find its way into your library of games to play while staying safe inside your homes.

Skelattack is now available for the Xbox, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC Steam.

HHW Gaming Review: ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’ Campaign Remastered Is A Love Letter To COD’s Single-Player Mode

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered

Source: Activision / Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered

Call of Duty fans was surprised to hear that Activision was dropping a remastered version of 2009’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s campaign. But is it worth taking your attention away from Modern Warfare and Warzone’s multiplayer fun?

Personally, I fell in love with the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare franchise playing the game’s campaigns before I got into the insanely-popular multiplayer mode. The once well-written stories stopped slapping for me honestly after Modern Warfare 3, which fans to this day still despise.

When the news of Modern Warfare 2’s campaign being remastered was officially announced, I jumped for joy because the game’s campaign is high on my list as a favorite. Immediately when I jumped into the game, I was very impressed with the job Beenox did with the game on the technical side. The game looks absolutely stunning in 4K on PS Pro as a timed PlayStation exclusive, but at the same time, some of the stages do feel a bit dated.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered

Source: Activision / Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered.

My opinion is a tad bit biased being that I played the original Modern Warfare 2, so if this is your first time, you might be more blown away than me playing the game.

But for the most part, Beenox has managed to resurrect the strengths that made Modern Warfare 2’s campaign a fan-favorite among COD players while enhancing other aspects of the game. There was definitely a lot of oh sh*t moments as if I was playing the game when it first launched. Whether it was being reminded that iconic Keith David and Lance Henrikson lent their voices to the game or the plethora of action-packed moments. Thrilling events like battling out the favelas of Brazil, the snowmobile escape, pushing back invading Russians in US suburban neighborhoods will have you on the edge of your seat.

One of my favorite MW2 moments is holding off waves of Russian solders using a drone strikes from the roof of a fast-food restaurant; it was a welcomed trip down memory lane.

I was also reminded how I loved the multiple breach moments where you bust into a room, and everything slows down, allowing to stylish take down bad guys.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered

It was still shocking to see Washington DC. in shambles as you try to take back the capital while taking on Russian invaders inside The White House.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered

Source: Activision / Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered.

I was pleased to see that the infamous “No Russian” mission was brought back in its entirety. In it, you are sent on an undercover mission where you are tasked to take out a terrorist act. If you don’t have the stomach to shoot innocent civilians, you don’t have the pull the trigger. The mission does get uneasy when you have to start shooting back at police officers who are trying to stop you. Like the 2009 game, if you do not care to play the mission, you can choose to skip it.

Final Verdict:

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered is nothing but a love letter to what made the franchise great, its single-player campaign. 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare reboot also managed to recapture that once missing energy. This game successfully reminded me why the 4-6 hour campaign is top 3 in the game’s long history. If you never got a chance to play MW2’s campaign mode, now is your chance for only $19.99.

If you have been dying to replay Modern Warfare 2’s single-player campaign, then this game will suit you very well.
