Q&A With Rising Colorado Based Hip Hop Artist Joseph Jordan

We want to thank you for dropping such a dope project recently “Weirdo”, please tell us who is Joseph Jordan? Where are you from? How did your Hip Hop brand come about? What does the name Joseph Jordan mean to you?

First of all thank you for following up with this interview! So excited to finally tell the world a little bit about myself. My artist alias is “Joseph Jordan” my full name is Joseph Jordan Sedillo. I had been making music for years before finally settling on Joseph Jordan. Before that I mainly had two monikers, Joe-J, and J-Flow. I’m a Colorado native born and raised. I was born in Denver and moved between there and Lakewood pretty frequently throughout my life.

Hip-Hop has always had a huge impact on my life. When I was around 3-5 “I Got Five On It” grabbed my attention the first time I listened and never let go. Early on I idolized artist like Eminem, Tupac, Biggie, and Atmosphere. I didn’t start writing rhymes of my own until I was 14. The first song I recorded was on a handheld tape recorder called “Street Poetry” over a YouTube instrumental that has been lost to time. Later I recorded the same song over a karaoke mic on what I believe was garage band at a friends house.

After that I knew hip-hop was a creative direction that would take me down a path I was excited to travel. A lot of my lyricism and production style is based off of early Eminem and early Atmosphere.

We notice you style is super original and very creative. Give us a little background on you style and how it cam about?

I’ve always had a keen focus on wordplay, rhyme schemes, and punchlines. I’d say my style is extremely battle rap oriented but funny enough I haven’t participated in many battles on my own.

Congrats on success of your latest album, “Weirdo”. Feel free to breakdown the creative process of the project. (features, production, etc). Where can people find the project?

The production on my debut studio album “Weirdo” was entirely produced with Ableton Live 9. The majority of the production is sample based. I started working on this album when I was 23 and ended up releasing it this year at 25. There are only two features on this album, C.L., and Bzkt. C.L. handled a good portion of the melodic choruses throughout the project and made short appearances on ad libs. Bzkt. is a popular alternative rap artist from Washington. He was featured on “Say What” and is the only rap feature on the entire project. Weirdo is available on all streaming platforms.

Are you planning on releasing any videos to complement “Weirdo”. Or are you going to let the record gravitate as an exclusive listening experience?

Music videos are definitely something I want to experiment with and I might have something up my sleeve soon!

With this industry being so fast pace, being so busy promoting yourself, what advice do you have to those who are barely releasing their first record, and trying to break into the business?

My best advice to people releasing their first album/project of any sort is to focus on networking with as many people as humanly possible. Exposure is key here. As unique as you might be you’re just a needle in a haystack when it comes to any musical genre. The more people know you exist, the easier it is to gain a following and get yourself a step ahead.

How does social media playing a role in your success? How are fans / supporters helping your movement?

Social media is pivotal in making a career for yourself. Focus on all major platforms, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, etc.

With this being an underground hip hop site, we always ask this important question. What is your definition of “underground hip hop”?

My definition of underground hip-hop is a multitude of things. It’s hip-hop that hasn’t been heard by many. It’s usually but not always counter culture based and has an edge to it. It’s the potential of an artist that hasn’t had the chance to show the world what they’re made of.

Joseph Jordan – “Weirdo” (Album Review)

Hip-Hop has always been an outcast, a genre searching for its own identity and eventually manifested its own infectious sound. While the genre has discovered its elements, it’s artists still search for its own signature sound. Artists like Denver’s own Joseph Jordan whom have grown a cult-like fanbase with his unfamiliar brand of lyricism. The new artist reveals his latest new project, Weirdo, set to transcend the up-and-coming artist into a mainstream prospect.

Being weird has becoming trendsetting over the years that have accumulated mass success in music. Jordan expects to follow in the same footsteps of those before him with his unique ability of both producer and recording artist. Presenting a sound that has its own patent that separates himself from peers.

Expecting confusion, experimental, and disconnect due to the album’s title. Oddly enough, Weirdo’s production is noble with revealing instrumentals that express a tailored fit signifying Jordan’s arrival. Cutting-edge, Joseph Jordan’s lyricism is amazing due to its awkwardness. “Say What” is the album prize possession. An infectious track, the track signifies Jordan’s undeniable presence with an unlikely approach.

Pulling double duties, Joseph Jordan is organic with both the production and lyricism that fans will gravitate too immediately. Jordan leaves a blueprint easy to follow and process that puts him on a path all-new and all-original. The album’s chemistry is organic, strategic, and overall monumental.

After hearing Weirdo, Joseph Jordan’s portrayal is influential as the rising star handled the entire project from scribe to production. Natural, impactful, and valuable, the new project is arguably Jordan’s best work yet. Open to all searching for defining new sound, Jordan transform being different into something glorifying.

Weirdo is a much-needed project as we enter the new year. You’ve been happily fore warned. Dare to be different.
