Today In Hip Hop History: Irv And Chris Gotti Beat The Feds 14 Years Ago

Even with a 98% conviction rate, the federal government were no match for Irv Gotti and the Murder Inc. crew.

On this date in 2005, the U.S. government exonerated Irv and Chris Gotti along with their Murder Inc. after a two year long case in which the Lorenzo brothers were forced to prove that their successful, multi-million dollar record label was not a money laundering operation for Kenneth “Supreme” McGriff of Queens’ legendary Supreme Team.

Even with multi-platinum artists such as Ja Rule, Ashanti and Lil’ Mo, the Def Jam subsidiary was still questioned about their affiliation with McGriff after Gotti funded a movie directed by the Supreme Team leader entitled Crime Partners, which was inspired by the infamous novel by famed author Donald Goines.

Following the January 2003 raid on the Murder Inc. offices, things for the crew were never the same. Gotti spent upwards of $10 million in legal fees fighting the government, the label had no distribution during the entire trial and the war with a rival rapper from Jamaica, Queen named 50 Cent had just begun. Nevertheless, the crew dropped the Murder moniker, never waived the white flag and stood tall against the government until they were victorious. Salute!

Irv Gotti Finally Confirms He And Ashanti Were Smashing [Video]

BET Awards 2017 Arrivals

Source: Nicky Nelson/WENN.com / WENN

Irv Gotti has never been one to bite his tongue but he has stayed forever evasive concerning a celebrity indiscretion. Now he has no chill.

As spotted on HipHopDX the record executive has long been romantically tied to Ashanti. While the rumors have persisted both he and the “Baby” songstress have denied any physical interactions—until now. On a recent visit to The Wendy Williams Show, Lorenzo admitted that the two were intimate after he separated from his wife. Naturally, Wendy couldn’t contain her inner joy as he spilled this never before brew of tea.

“When me and Deb separated, she caught me cheating — this is why I’m here. Ashanti is not a home wrecker, guys! Ashanti had nothing to do with me and Deb — Deb caught me when I was directing ‘I Cry’ in Baltimore” he explained. Gotti went into detail that he too fell victim to the classic girlfriend swoop down. “Deb being the vicious person she is, she came down unannounced. She said, ‘I’m Mrs. Lorenzo. Give me the room key.’ The door was latched, but she knows I’m in there. That’s what broke me and Deb up.”

But to hear the Tales producer tell it he did nothing wrong as he and his wife’s relationship was already a thing of the past. “I can’t mess with another girl until I sign the divorce papers?” he asked rhetorically.

Irv Gotti Thinks Rap Rat Tekashi Snitch Nine Could Resume Career

Irv Gotti attends the Growing Up Hip Hop, New York and...

Although it doesn’t make much sense to anyone on the outside looking in, Tekashi 6ix9ine seems to have plans to resume his music career. Irv Gotti believes the rapper born Daniel Hernandez would get support but don’t expect the Murder Inc. boss to be down with the wave.

TMZ
reports:

We got the Murder Inc. honcho outside Le Pain in WeHo, and asked what he thought about 6ix9ine’s plan to pass on witness protection … so he can return to making music. Irv’s disgust with Tekashi was written all over his face.

At the risk of going a little Clint Eastwood in “Gran Torino” … Irv told us this kinda thing wouldn’t even be debated back in his heyday of the ’90s. He says Tekashi would just KNOW he couldn’t show his face in NYC. As he put it, “N****s would probably whoop his ass on sight” … even if they had nothing to do with the trial or Tekashi’s gang.

Check out the video of Irv Gotti blasting Tekashi 6ix9ine below.

Irv Gotti Developing Movie About Kenneth “Supreme” McGriff, 50 Cent Is In His Feelings

Irving "Irv Gotti" Lorenzo

Irv Gotti is poised to possibly make the biggest executive comeback in recent history. The Murder Inc. founder is taking his talents to Tinseltown to tell the story of a good, but infamous friend.

Hot New Hip Hop is reporting that Lorenzo is working on a film on the notorious Kenneth “Supreme” McGriff. He announced it during a recent interview with The Outlawz Radio Show. The move seems like a no brainer for the Murder Inc. CEO as he has a longstanding friendship with the convicted felon. So much so his record label suffered due to their alliance when the feds raided their offices for suspicion on money laundering. For those living under a rock Supreme was one of the most infamous drug traffickers in New York City during the 1980’s.

His operation, aptly called The Supreme Team, owned a large share of the crack distribution in Queens. It is reported that his crew was responsible for over 1 billion in narcotics sales during the crack era. History has shown that with all that cold hard cash comes violence and his rise to power was no different. Police allege that several bodies fell at the request of McGriff.

One person who is not fan of the project is none other than 50 Cent. To complicate his longstanding beef with Murder Inc. it has been rumored that ‘Preme order the hit on Curtis that left him shot nine times on May 24, 2000. Additionally he was also connected in having a hand in Jam Master Jay’s murder. As expected Fif took to social media to troll his Irv. “Y’all not even from South Side, get the f*** outta here. I’m doing that story with Bimmy at STARZ. LOL get ya weight up” he wrote.

Currently McGriff is serving a life sentence in high-security federal prison in Virginia for murder-for-hire.

Chris Gotti Details the Time Suge Knight Tried to Steal Ja Rule from Murder Inc

A lot of surprising things go on behind-the-scenes of the music and entertainment industry that the average person won’t know about. Chris Gotti detailed a not-so surprising story, but it was still very interesting.

Gotti stopped by Doggie Diamonds’ No Filter Podcast and discussed his relationship with the infamous Death Row Records CEO, Suge Knight, who is currently serving time for murder. According to Chris, there was a moment in history when Suge tried to snatch Ja Rule from Murder Inc records and welcome him to Death Row.

“I f*ck with Suge, but you know it wasn’t always good,” he said. “He showed a good side but he made one move to do…but all predators make one move. They try you, and if you don’t stand right, you gon’ get tested, right? That’s a predator. That is the absolute…anyone who deals with a predator or is a predator, if they try something, it’s because they’re seeing how far they can get away with something.”

Chris Gotti said although Suge tried them, Murder Inc. stood their ground and he backed off. “[It was] when Ja was doing Blood in My Eye and he made a move for Ja Rule. Kevin Liles calls me from the office talking ’bout, ‘Suge Knight is in here talkin’ ’bout Ja Rule is his artists’ [and] ‘What happened in L.A.?’ I speak to Irv and was basically like, ‘Imma go see him.’ Irv wasn’t in New York at the time. Irv was like, ‘Do what you want.’”

Eventually, the two men sat down and had a conversation about it and squashed it. He also mentioned that Kevin Liles, then-President of Def Jam, was “shook” when he called Chris into his office.

Irv Gotti Announces He’s Teamed Up W/ Major Movie Studios For Feature Directorial Debut

Irv Gotti

Murder Inc. founder Irv Gotti is proving it’s way bigger than “Tales” in 2019. The hip-hop mogul has announced plans to get behind the director’s chair for his first feature debut.

Gotti went to Instagram Wednesday to reveal he’s teamed up with movie powerhouse Paramount Pictures.

Details have surfaced about Gotti’s upcoming film project.

Through his production company Visionary Ideas and its collaboration with Viacom, Gotti is working to develop a film with Paramount Pictures. Marcus Guillory is penning a script from a story by Gotti about a rapper who sells his soul to the Devil to gain Fame and Fortune. This came about through Gotti’s relationship with Bob Bakish, President and CEO of Viacom. He will be working closely with Paramount’s Jim Gianopulos, Matt Dines, & Amber Raspberry. (Blackfilm)

A few weeks ago, Gotti and Kanye West‘s much-hyped “Brothers” collaboration finally premiered during the “Tales” premiere.

After teasing the new track as part of BET’s Tales last month, Kanye West has finally revealed his new track alongside longtime collaborator Charlie Wilson, entitled “Brothers.” Produced by Irv Gotti and Murder Inc producer Seven (Channel 7), the track debuted on the show’s two-hour season premiere late Tuesday night. Reminiscent of the “Big Brother” sound from Ye’s Graduation era, the song relishes in much of the style that early Kanye fans have craved from the artist’s current and future projects. (Hypebeast)

In early July, Ye’s wife Kim Kardashian went to Twitter to plug BET’s “Tales” season premiere and remind followers “Brothers” will finally get released.
