Cardi B Announces as Headliner for Hot 97 Summer Jam 2023

Cardi B Announces as Headliner for Hot 97 Summer Jam 2023

Every year, Hot 97 does it big by throwing the biggest Summer Jam concert possible. Every year, they reel in the who’s who of the rap game. But this year serves as Hip-Hop’s 50th year anniversary, and the lineup is undoubtedly one for the books.

Announced today, this year’s Summer Jam will take place on June 4th at UBS Arena, with Cardi B as the headliner. With Cardi B being from the Bronx and Hot 97’s roots being in New York, it’s only right that the “Bodak Yellow” closes the show.

Fans that attended last year’s show at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey can be thrilled to know that weather will no longer be a factor. With Summer Jam going on their 29th year, the venue change to the beautiful UBS Arena in Long Island will definitely have concert-goers looking forward to the upgrade.

Besides Cardi B, other superstars performing include Ice Spice, Coi Leray, GloRilla, Lola Brooke, French Montana, Fivio Foreign, Lil TJay, and even a special set celebrating 50 Years of Hip Hop with The LOX.

During an interview with Ebro In The Morning today, Lola Brooke expresses her excitement. “This means everything to me,” Lola states. “This is a New York City artist’s dream. It’s so crazy because the first time I ever been to Summer Jam, I said I wasn’t coming back until I was on stage and I never came back.”

She added, “Since 2012, I never came back. It was hard though, I made it work.”

Lola Brooke isn’t the only artist who will be taking the Summer Jam stage for the first time, joining Ice Spice, Coi Leray, GloRilla, and Lil Tjay.

Tickets go on sale this Saturday, April 8th at 10am EST on Ticketmaster.

Funkmaster Flex Apologizes to RZA for Hot 97’s Wu-Tang Clan Beef

Screen Shot 2023 02 06 at 6.58.17 AM

Several reports have confirmed that Funk Flex has issued a public apology to the RZA on behalf of Hot 97 for their longstanding beef with the Wu Tang Clan.

Flex took to IG not long after being named the station Creative Program Director, posting a pic of him and The Abbott, captioning,

“I WANNA TAKE THIS TIME TO APOLOGIZE TO THE @RZA AND THE ENTIRE @WUTANGCLAN !!! ALMOST 25YRS AGO THE GROUP, ME AND HOT97 HAD A DISAGREEMENT THAT TO ME NEVER GOT PUT TO BED AND I APOLOGIZE!” Flex wrote.

“LOOKING BACK AT THIS 20 SUMTHIN YEARS LATER.. WE GONNA MAKE UP FOR THE TIME WE MISSED…”, he continued. “THE WORLDS GREATEST RAP GROUP AND THE WORLDS GREATEST RADIO STATIONS ARE GOING TO COME TOGETHER BRING U SOMETHING AMAZING!”

Flex hinted at a collabo between him and the Wu in the future, with every member of the Clan tagged in the photo. RZA responded with the Wu hand signal while Raekwon replied, “Nothing but love Blackman ! And that’s Reciprical !!!!!”

The rift came in 1997 when the Wu felt they were forced to fly back to NYC to perform for Summer Jam for free after they were booked to headline the event at the Meadowlands Arena in New Jersey.

Inspectah Deck recalled the beginning of the beef on the 2019 Wu Tang Clan: Of Mice And Men, where he explained, “The deal was, as far as I remember, you gotta come back and do this Hot 97 Summer Jam or we’re not gonna play any more of your records on your station.”

“They didn’t play our records for like the next 10 years,” said Deck, noting that other radio stations followed suit. “Us not being involved while they playing the Biggie shit, they playing Nas shit, everybody that was rocking with us at the time. That affected our sales, that affected our touring, that affected everything. That affected our presence.”

Hot 97 and the Wu eventually made peace, with the Clan performing at Summer Jam in 2013.

Young Thug Gives Pre-Recorded Message to Crowd at Hot 97 Summer Jam

young thug denied bond

Young Thug remains behind bars on his RICO arrest, preventing the star from performing at Hot 97 Summer Jam. Before Fivio Foreign closed Summer Jam, Hot 97 played a video that included a voice message from Young Thug that played throughout MetLife Stadium.

“I just want to say thank you to all of my friends and my family for coming out and supporting us,” Thug said. “You know, your support during this time means a lot to us, ya know.”

The video also mentioned a petition started by Kevin Liles and Julie Greenwald, Rap Music on Trial: Protect Black Art. “You know, this isn’t just about me or YSL, I always use my music as a form of artistic expression, and now I see that Black artists and rappers don’t have that, you know, freedom,” Thugger added.

Cardi B Delivers While Pregnant at Hot 97’s Summer Jam

The Queen of the Bronx has done it again. This past weekend at Hot 97’s Summer Jam festival, Atlanta rap group The Migos brought out Cardi B in New York City to perform her verse for their single “Type Sh*t,” featured on the hip hop trio’s fourth studio album.

This would be the second time that Cardi has proven that her grind doesn’t stop with her career because she is expecting. Cardi is currently pregnant with Offset’s second child.

“Watch when I push out this baby wait 6 months go to Colombia get a lipo, breast reduction, learn how to pole dance again, learn how to play spade and get my political science degree and pop out with my album …Yeup Yeup he going to wrong muahaha,” the rapper previously stated in regards to her continuous grind.

Shout out to Cardi B for getting to the shmoney despite the critics who believe the rapper would allow her pregnancy to slow her down. Check out the video of Cardi being brought out on the Summer Jam stage below.

Cardi B Brings Out Lil Nas X, Billy Ray Cyrus, Blueface and More at Summer Jam 2019

Dripped in a sparkling yellow two-piece, Cardi B took the stage at Summer Jam for a star-studded performance. The Grammy Award-winning rapper has racked up a plethora of Billboard hits over the past few years. Since the release of “Bodak Yellow” her notoriety has only increased to mega-star status. During her first full set on the Summer Jam stage, she spread the love to a number of her recent collaborators. Although the weather tried to stop the party, it did not succeed in doing so.

During her big performance, Bardi made history. She called on Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus to perform”Old Town Road.” The song has topped the Billboard Hot 100 charts for multiple weeks and does not look to lose momentum anytime soon.

The Bronx native surprised the MetLife Stadium audience when Blueface joined her to perform one of the year’s biggest hits “Thotiana.”

As you can expect, the entire tri-state crowd went into a Bust Down dance bonanza. The California rapper made his Summer Jam debut when he shut down the Hot 97 Festival stage earlier in the day, only to return to the main stage in front of thousands.
