The 2022 Glastonbury Festival occurred over the weekend and featured performances from Kendrick Lamar and Megan Thee Stallion. Both stars took a moment to speak out against the Supreme Court overturning Roe V. Wade.

Thee Stallion would state her home state of Texas is embarrassing her and spoke on behalf of her fans. “I wanna have it on the records, that the hot boys and hot girls do not support this bullshit that y’all campaigning for.”

She would also start the chant, “My body, my motherfucking choice.”

During his time on stage, Kendrick Lamar said to the crowd, “They judge you, they judged Christ. Godspeed for women’s rights.”

Stormzy was over the moon over the weekend after proudly declaring himself the first Black British act to headline the annual Glastonbury Festival, but had to walk those claims back. Skunk Anansie, a punk band fronted by a Black woman vocalist, actually achieved the feat 20 years prior thus sparking an apology from the “Vossi Bop” star.

Stormzy took to Twitter last weekend ahead of his headlining set and immediately was reminded by Skin, Skunk Anansie’s lead singer, of the true nature of the historic distinction.

“Sorry Stormzy but we beat you to it in 1999! 20 years ago! And while we’re on topic, I was the first black Woman too! @beyonce Wishing you an awesome nite tho, Kill it! You’re amazing and we’re all very proud,” Skin wrote in a caption via an Instagram post.

Stormzy politely apologized to Skin and the band with a tweet of his own, and all is well across South London it appears. And for what it’s worth, Stormzy does own the distinction of being the first Black solo act to headline.

Stormzy is obviously a proper gentleman. Salute.

Janelle Monae to Headline the 2019 Glastonbury Festival

R&B diva Janelle Monae has been announced as one of the headlining acts at the Glastonbury Festival 2019. The Dirty Computer artist will top the bill on the West Holts stage, organizer Emily Eavis told BBC 6 Music’s, Lauren Laverne.

Monae, who is nominated for several Grammy awards for her latest, critically acclaimed album, including Album of the Year, last played the U.K festival in 2011. Her electrifying performance was voted one of the top 100 performances in the history of the festival.

Monae joins fellow artists Stormzy – who is headlining the Friday night of the festival – and Kylie Minogue (headlining the Legends stage) on this year’s billing.

Regarded as a major event in British culture, Glastonbury Festival is a five-day festival of contemporary performing arts that takes place near Pilton, Somerset, England. In addition to contemporary music, the festival hosts dance, comedy, theater, circus, cabaret, and other arts. Leading pop and rock artists have headlined, alongside thousands of others appearing on smaller stages and performance areas. Films and albums recorded at Glastonbury have been released, and the festival receives extensive television and newspaper coverage. Glastonbury is the largest greenfield festival in the world and is now attended by around 175,000 people.
