Deuce Ellis – “Electric Soul” (Video)

Brooklyn MC Deuce Ellis recently dropped some dope visuals for his track “Electric Soul” off of his most recent LP “Acid.” Directed by Trevor Lang, the video features footage from his capsule collection fashion shoot as well as his Rotten Island Records performance.

A multi-talented musician, Ellis combines clever wordplay with soulful depth over an organically smooth soundscape he also self-produced. Tap into the video above, and be sure to stream his “Acid” project below.

Deuce Ellis – “Outlaw Magicians” Ft. Homeboy Sandman

Deuce Ellis’ brand new single “Outlaw Magicians” featuring a standout performance from Homeboy Sandman. This beat on this joint is hella unorthodox and flows are crazy. This is soulful sorcery caught on tape. Cuts by D. Spliff

Deuce Ellis – “Acid” (Album Review)

Deuce Ellis is a 33 year old MC/producer from Buffalo, New York who first emerged in the scene just 8 years ago off the strength of his sex comedy-themed debut Spread. This was followed up in 2018 with Goodbye Blue Monday & now with the 1 year anniversary of Midnight Ouroboros creeping up in the fall, Deuce is keeping it rolling by unveiling his 4th full-length album.

“Spit Acid” kicks the album off with Deuce & Che Noir showing off their rapping prowesses on top of some dusty drums & a funky bass-line whereas “Planet America” is a somber boom bap cut with some social commentary being presented through the lyrics. Homeboy Sandman tags along for the insightful “Outlaw Magicians” leading into the luxurious “Electric Soul”, which is about him walking through walls these days. Then there’s “Loosin’ My Mind”, which is pretty much a brief soul interlude.

Meanwhile on “Ciao Boom”, we have Deuce seeming revenge on top of a psychedelic boom bap instrumental just before the slick yet raunchy “Solar Power”. The song “Steam” with Sauce Heist works in some weepy guitar passages to speak on the way they paint pictures while the penultimate track “Smirking Revenge” with Napoleon da Legend drearily addresses betrayal. And finally, “The Yield” contains a meditative beat & he tells us what it was like for him quarantining during COVID.

Now if you ask me, Deuce has been putting out quality music for almost a decade at this point. However, Acid could very well be his magnum opus. He has a unique production style that sounds no different on here & lyrically, he hasn’t even hit his final form yet.

Score: 7/10

Deuce Ellis Returns With New Single “Spit Acid” Featuring Che Noir

Brooklyn transplant Deuce Ellis is back with “Spit Acid,” the lead single off his upcoming full-length album “Acid.” After giving fans the feature packed “Midnight Ouroboros” last year, he wanted to return with a focus on his production and lyricism. The sound architecture on “Acid” was wholly created by Deuce on his acoustic guitar, bass, keys, and MPC. In fact, he played a number of compositions just so he could then sample them.

The bass-driven swing of “Spit Acid” is nothing like what’s out there right now. Deuce sparks the track with a cocksure verse, which is followed up by blistering 16 from the Queen of Upstate New York herself, Che Noir. The song is rounded out with deft cuts by D. Spliff.

Deuce Ellis – “RZA’s Keyboard” Ft. Rome Streetz & Popa Wu

Buffalo born, Brooklyn raised MC/producer Deuce Ellis is about to drop his second offering of 2020. At the end of May he gave listeners “Camo Ellis,” a well-received instrumental EP that he co-produced with longtime friend Camoflauge Monk. However, what he’s serving up fans on Friday the 13th in November is his opus, “Midnight Ouroboros.” This 10-track LP features Deuce on production and mic duties with some assistance from some of the game’s most sought after artists. On the emcee tip, he invited along Rome Streetz, Estee Nack, Hus Kingpin, G4Jag, Napoleon Da Legend, Billie Essco, Ty Farris, Jae Skeese, and Lxve The Genius. While on the boards he collaborated with Camo Monk on three joints once again, and did one with another Buffalo beatmaker, CeeGee.

Now, to spark off this high profile affair Deuce is unleashing the lead single titled “RZA’s Keyboard” featuring Rome Streetz and Popa Wu (RIP). As the name suggests, the beat was concocted on RZA’s old keyboard, which was given to Deuce by his mentor Popa Wu. Deuce also recorded The Clan elder dropping mad knowledge, which he uses a snippet of on this special cut to tribute the late great.
