R. Kelly and his legal struggles will continue to mount for the unforeseeable future and deservedly so. Kelly was in court Friday for an arraignment hearing for his racketeering and sexual misconduct charges in New York and was denied bail in the process.

Variety reports:

he singer, wearing blue prison togs over an orange shirt, pleaded not guilty to the charges through his attorneys, Douglas Anton and Steven Greenberg. While he looked ahead through most of the hearing, Kelly smiled ruefully and nodded briefly at girlfriends Joycelyn Savage and Azriel Clary, who were seated with two other associates of the singer; the two women each let out a sympathetic sigh as Kelly was led into the courtroom in prison togs. He did not address the courtroom except to tell the judge that he understood the charges against him.

Attorneys for the government claimed that if the 52-year-old singer were released on bond, he would be a flight risk with a serious danger of obstruction of justice and noted the allegations of his sexual crimes against minors. They also noted his “lengthy and wide-ranging history of criminal conduct” and said that during his 2002 child-pornography trial, of which he was acquitted in 2008, there were multiple claims of obstruction of justice — specifically “paying off and intimidating witnesses not to appear” — and noted the assistance of his “inner circle” with those obstruction claims.

The outlet adds in its reporting that among the 13 known alleged victims, five were connected to the matter in New York.

Lil Durk Granted $250,000 Bond in Atlanta Shooting Case

Lil Durk was recently in court for a probable cause hearing in connection to a shooting in February outside of the Varsity restaurant in downtown Atlanta, per WSB-TV.

The Chicago rapper’s $250,000 bond was granted by judge. “Turning yourself in does mean something,” the judge reportedly said. But he will be given a curfew.

At the top of the month, an Atlanta judge found probable cause to charge Lil Durk and his co-defendant King Von with criminal intent to commit murder and aggravated assault, in addition to other counts. The “Home Body” rapper denies any involvement with the shooting and said he had “nothing to hide” before turning himself in.

“Once I heard, I immediately came back,” he said at the time. “I have nothing to hide. I have nothing to run from.”

Atlanta Police Department detective Jeffrey Churchill claims a witness told him they saw Durk pull out a weapon. “They heard gunfire,” Churchill told the court.

R. Kelly Posts $100K Bond, Reportedly Hits Up Mickey D’s Right After

R. Kelly Appears In Court For Aggravated Sexual Abuse Charges

R. Kelly became the butt of jokes after he was unable to post 10 percent of his $1 million bond over the weekend according to many reports. On Monday (Feb. 25), Kelly posted a $100,000 bond and reportedly went to McDonald’s right after.

TMZ reports:

Kelly’s $100k bond — 10% of his $1 million bail — was finally posted Monday after he appeared in court and entered a not guilty to plea to all 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse. As he walked out of jail, wearing his blue down coat, Kelly was swarmed by photogs and reporters.

There also seemed to be a number of protesters yelling at Kelly, calling him a pedophile and asking how he’d feel if someone urinated on his daughter — but they used more colorful language.

Sources in Kelly’s camp tell us he paid the bond with a bank cashier’s check … so, there won’t be any issues with his check clearing.

Kelly’s legal woes aren’t over as he has to pay his ex-wife Drea Kelly $160,000 in back child support by March 6 or he’s going right back in the slammer.

R. Kelly was finally indicted on 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and turned himself in for a hopefully not-so-comfy stay in jail. According to several reports, the R&Pee singer is having a little trouble paying the 10 percent needed for his $1 million bond.

Chicago Sun-Times reports:

Kelly failed to pay the $100,000 needed for his release ahead of trial on Saturday night, but could post bond Sunday after spending a second night in custody.

Kelly’s defense attorney, Steven Greenberg, said the singer’s finances were “a mess” and his income strangled after his record label dropped him. Greenberg said he expected Kelly to have the cash to bond out of jail before his next court appearance on Monday.

“He’s trying to get it together,” Greenberg told reporters after the hearing.

Kelly owes upward of $160,000 in back child support and was about to be evicted from his Near West Side studio after failing to pay $167,000 in rent, Greenberg said.

Judge John Fitzgerald Lyke Jr. says that if Kelly posts bail, he will have to surrender his passport and he’s not allowed to have contact with any minors.

Twitter has been frying Kelly and we’ve got some of the responses below.
