Travis Scott, Bryson Tiller Reflect on Raising Black Daughters in ‘Crazy’ Climate

Travis Scott Bryson Tiller Reflect on Raising Black Daughters in Crazy Climate

Bryson Tiller appeared on the latest episode of Travis Scott’s .WAV RADIO on Apple Music with Chase B.

Chase asked La Flame and Pen Griffey what it’s like being a girl dad in 2020, in a time where many are urging for the protection of Black women.

“I feel like it’s way more important now to protect our young Black daughters, women. You know what I mean? And making sure they had the knowledge of just how to carry yourself, how to move in this world, how to be strong, how to not even be scared to take that risk on any idea,” the Houston rapper said during their conversation. “Jump out on any type of creativity because now more than ever, it’s like they have the vision. You know what I’m saying? Whether it’s for anything a man can do, anything a woman can do. They got the pure vision.”

Bryson and Travis previously collaborated on the Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight cut, “first take” and they have some more heat in the vault.

Chase previewed Bryson Tiller’s unreleased song featuring Travis Scott, “Blunt Talk.”

Bryson Tiller Explains How the Long-Awaited Drake Collab Finally Happened

Bryson Tiller Explains How the Long-Awaited Drake Collab Finally Happened

Bryson Tiller released his highly-anticipated True to Self follow-up, Anniversary, last week, and fans were pleased to see that Drake was featured on there.

The pair were set to collaborate since 2015 when the Toronto rapper called Pen Griffey his “biggest competition.” Tiller teased that he was going to appear on Drizzy’s More Life project, but that clearly didn’t happen.

During an interview on Genius’ For The Record series, the Louisville native explained that Drake was actually supposed to make a guest appearance on TRAPSOUL but it fell through.

“We didn’t get to make that happen, obviously, but this is dope to come back five years later—full circle—and do it,” he said, before revealing that Drake had his eyes on “The Sequence” and Tiller’s breakout single, “Don’t.”

Bryson continued explaining that his mental state is what held him back from collaborating with The Boy.

“This is how it happened, actually. About eight, nine months ago—me and him have always, like, sent each other ideas, or whatever,” Tiller said. “I was supposed to be on More Life; at that time, I was just in a terrible mental space. I really couldn’t deliver the proper Bryson Tiller verse for a Drake album … it just wasn’t there at all. So I ended up not getting on the project. Anyway, we still kept in contact over the years.”

He went on to explain that Drake actually sent a verse that was intended to be featured on his Serenity project, but Bryson was still hesitant about finishing the track. “I was like, ‘Wow, you sound amazing on this’ … I sat on it for a while, and I kind of found myself in the same place that I was when we first started collaborating,” Tiller said. “… I don’t wanna even come on a song if I’m not really feeling it … I kind of was just sitting on it for a while.”

Bryson Tiller’s manager, Neil Dominique, inquired about the verse during a studio session for Anniversary and encouraged the crooner to drop it. “[Dominique] was like, ‘Man, that shit’s. I ain’t gonna lie. I don’t feel like shit would ever come out without you,’” Tiller recalled. “… He left the studio, and for the first time, I went in there and knocked it out … I was like, ‘Yo, can I use it on my album?’ [Drake] was like, ‘Yeah. Let’s go. Let’s go. I’m hype.’ So, that’s how that happened.”

Bryson Tiller Unveils Upcoming Album Title and Release Date

Bryson Tiller Unveils Upcoming Album Title and Release Date

Bryson Tiller fans finally have a concrete date for when they can expect his third studio album titled Anniversary.

“real fans know the countdown started months ago. Anniversary 10/2,” he tweeted.

Tiller made his groundbreaking debut five years ago and fans have been thirsty for more.

His sophomore album, True to Self was met with mixed reviews and in a recent interview he admitted that he knew it wasn’t good enough. “It was two years after Trapsoul came out and I was going through a lot of s–t — like, legal stuff and personal stuff. I didn’t really want to create an album at that time,” he told Billboard.

The singer added, “I wasn’t really trying to put energy or time into it. I wasn’t really trying. It was just me being lazy. It was my C-game. I can’t afford to bring my C-game now — not for my two daughters. It’s just my A-game here on out.”

But Pen Griffey assured there’s a “clear difference with this album and True to Self.”

Bryson Tiller released two new songs, “Inhale” and “Always Forever,” which will presumably be featured on his forthcoming musical effort. Additionally, he celebrated TRAPSOUL’s fifth year anniversary with the release of the deluxe album which featured two Soundcloud cuts and a never-before-heard “Rambo” remix featuring The Weeknd.

The entire Hip-Hop community was rocked to its core on this day one year ago as news that Nipsey Hussle was shot and killed spread online and across media outlets. On Twitter, fans are joined in remembering the talented rapper and entrepreneur while firmly reminding the world that “the marathon continues.”

Hussle, born Ermias Asghedom on August 15, 1985, in Crenshaw, Los Angeles, Calif., was on the cusp of becoming a household name after years toiling in the West Coast underground which culminated into his debut album, Victory Lap, getting nominated for a Grammy Award in 2019. Along with his rising stature in music, Hussle continued to be a beacon of light to those in his beloved hometown and continually reached back as a community advocate and business leader.

Hussle’s fiancee, Lauren London, has remained vigilant in keeping her loved one’s memory alive and his family has also exhibited epic amounts of strength as they continued to hold up Hussle’s name in high honor.

We won’t labor again over the unfortunate details of Hussle’s senseless death as we’ve covered it plenty on this site. Instead, we looked over the loving tweets and shared memories of those that Hussle both met personally and inspired by way of his actions in the community. Hussle’s Neighborhood Nip Foundation also continues the groundwork that the rapper was putting in on the ground and a partnership with Puma with London as the face of the campaign also supports the foundation’s chief aims.

For those unfamiliar with the sounds of Nipsey Hussle, we’ve shared his final album Victory Lap below. Keep scrolling to see the reactions on Twitter under the “RIP NIP” trending topic.

Rest powerfully in peace, Nipsey Hussle.

Cardi B and Offset Lovingly Celebrate 2nd Year Anniversary, ” I love you 4ever and after life.”

ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" - Season 17

Cardi B and Offset have definitely proved that love conquers all, as the dynamic duo celebrated their second wedding anniversary over the weekend.

On Friday (Sept. 20), Cardi took to her Instagram to show love to her adoring husband, while dropping some wisdom along the way.

“9/20/17 Happy marriage anniversary hubby❤ We keep learning and growing. That’s what marriage about.”

Although short and sweet, Offset took the more expressive approach,  elaborating on how the two defied the odds of the critics who originally called the marriage a “sham”.

Today is our anniversary nobody believed it was real. We got married without nobody knowing because it was only between us and God! Now we have beautiful Kulture and a big family. I love you 4ever and after life. ❤❤❤ 📷: @#1xcardib

Cardi B and Offset have definitely defied the odds, after a tumultuous first year of marriage full of highs which included the birth of their daughter Kulture, and lows which left the couple separated for three months after rumors of Offset’s infidelity hit the web. Despite the issues, the two young lovebirds worked things out after Offset appeared on stage during Cardi’s set at Rolling Loud asking for forgiveness, completely reconciling in February.

“I only have one birthday wish, and that’s to get my wife back,” Offset said in December. “Cardi, we goin’ through a lot of things right now… I wanna apologize to you, Cardi. I’m sorry for breaking your heart, breaking our promise, breaking God’s promise and being a selfish, messed-up husband.”

Since then the couple has been crazy in love and proud of it, from supportive posts regarding each other’s projects to commenting on each other’s post and pictures, even with tattoos of each other; these two are definitely letting the world know that the Cephuses are here to stay.

Happy Anniversary to the beautiful couple.

15 Years Later The Black Album Is Still JAY-Z’s Perfect Fadeaway (Video)

“Any time you’re making an album, especially if this is your last album, every single track has to be a statement. Like, in your mind, you’re thinking, I have to make the perfect album,” JAY-Z said before Fade To Black cameras during 2003, when the documentary filmed. “Anybody that knows me knows I’m dead serious. I’ll sit there and drive myself crazy ’til I find that right track.” History shows that Shawn Corey Carter hit his mark. Whether he sincerely believed he was done, he heightened the pressure on himself to an all-time high, and then he hit his mark. For Rap, it was Evil Knievel’s death-defying jump—and for then last time in their minds, the crowd roared. Swizz Beatz Explains Why The JAY-Z, Nas & DMX Collabo Has Not Come Out (Video) Fifteen years ago, JAY-Z solely occupied the pole position in Hip-Hop. While fans forever debate the victor, the Marcy Projects native left verbal confrontation with Nas in the better position, in terms of mass-public perception after the MC battle of the 2000s. He had climbed the charts, repeatedly, and laced the walls of Roc-A-Fella Records with his own platinum and gold plaques in less than a decade. Like Eminem, The Notorious B.I.G., and Run-D.M.C. before him, Jay finally had the critics, the charts, and the hearts of the masses—all at once. Following the groundswell of The Blueprint and the quick-strike sequels, Jay wanted a statement LP. The Black Album, released 15 years ago today (November 14, 2003) was a truly “grand closing” of the book in Shawn Carter’s illustrious 15-year Rap career, or so Heads seemingly believed at the time. What has made The Black Album so exceptional was its detailed planning and clear execution. Lupe Fiasco Explains In Detail Why JAY-Z Is The Greatest MC Of All-Time By 2003, past Jay collaborators Master P and Too Short had pump-faked retirement. In both cases, the artists not only revoked their vows, their exit music lacked gravitas—making their returns a bit blushed. In Jay’s case, however, this statement album not only amplified the attention to his lyrics (what other major album had its own mass-released acapella edition?) and music, it set the new standard for LP anticipation-and-delivery in the digital era. The Black Album was blueprinted as the ideal farewell for Jay. Stripped of rapping or singing guests, the album unflinchingly made Hova and legacy its focal point. In tow, the MC sought out key producers from his past, and a few wish-list studio mates to deliver his magnum opus. In turn, he seemingly addressed all the things that made his career work—almost as a revue. Songs like early released “What More Can I Say?” showed that Jay felt he had fully manifested his artistic trajectory and narrative. The display was exceptional, and every bar seemed to be worthy of extensive analysis. On “Moment Of Clarity,” Jay’s openness and intimacy reached new plateaus. Shawn Carter was suddenly profound, and lucidly justifying his own legacy (and thug) through candid commentary, over-top Eminem production.

Big Daddy Kane Details Recording This 1988 Mixtape Collabo With JAY-Z (Video) For many though, deep cuts like “Public Service Announcement (Interlude)” packed his eighth album’s greatest charms. On a 170-second dust-covered Just Blaze sample chop, Jay grandstanded—his flow, his status, his swagger, and his ability to make purebred Hip-Hop from the owner’s box. “99 Problems” did the same, as Jay sought out Rick Rubin’s proper return to Rap. There is footage of the Def Jam Records co-founder behind the boards, Mike D behind him, walking Jay through the takes. Having cut his teeth in DJ Premier’s D&D Studios enclave, and having later built state-of-the-art recording facilities of his own, S.Dot was open to experimentation and new methods. A grown man with the woman of his dreams, an uber-talented team around him, and the most in-tact legacy of an active MC, Jay used every minute of The Black Album differently than past albums. The 9th Wonder-produced “Threat” brought Jay back to wolf mode, while DJ Quik-laced “Justify My Thug” rolled out Jay’s man-code. Kanye West, still making his bones as one of Roc-A-Fella’s new and exciting voices, delivered in a major way with “Encore” and “Lucifer.” Just Blaze locked in more credits than anybody else, each showing his wax-informed range and sonic versatility. As detailed in Fade To Black, JAY-Z sifted through tons of tracks. Perhaps using foe NasIllmatic as a template, Jay wanted each production counterpart not only to mean something in the ensemble, but work together for something that had those individual statements, yet worked for a sum of the parts. He pulled from East and West, peer and protege, household-named hit-makers and faceless newcomers. The plan succeeded. There was no Twitter for hot-takes. However, in barbershops, Blackberry, Sidekick, and AOL messages, the vast majority of people seemed to agree—Jay had done great. Timbaland Describes The Musical Chemistry Between Him & JAY-Z (Video) Despite its mainstream recognition (only furthered by work with Linkin Park), The Black Album was not PG-13. Still, it balanced the antics of a former street hustler with major aspirations in the years ahead. He walked the line and compromised none of his past or his future. They met in the present. The Black Album brilliantly basked in its own hype. The hero stuntman lived, and made music feel like an event. While history shows he’d return two years later, fans took him at his word, sort of, anyway. JAY-Z left the stage, and flicked off the switch—but the lighters of hungry fans illuminated the legacy he had built in real-time. The Black Album set the standard for great MCs to take that bow. Although the legacy effect has changed since that moment, one cannot listen to the album and detach from that everlasting sentiment.
