Drake Named Co-Owner of Pro E-Sports Organization 100 Thieves

Drake and Nadeshot

Drake made it known to the world he is a gamer when he hopped on TylerNinja” Blevins’ Fortnite session a couple of months ago. The OVO general is now throwing his name in the e-sports world in a significant way by becoming a co-owner of the professional e-sports organization 100 Thieves.

Announced yesterday (Oct 23), Drizzy alongside producer Scooter Braun who is known for working with fellow Canadian Justin Bieber are now co-owners of the organization founded by Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag and Cleveland Cavalier owner Dan Gilbert.

100 Thieves unlike other e-sports organizations like Cloud9, Evil Geniuses is more known for its streetwear brand, but with the addition of Drake and Braun, it’s clear they are looking to not only win gaming chips but take the brand to another level.

In a statement released by 100 Thieves, Haag added:

“It’s been exciting to watch e=sports become a cultural phenomenon in 2018. I’ve spent my ten-year career in e-sports growing the ecosystem and am proud to have Drake and Scooter join as my partners to help take 100 Thieves to new heights. Our top priority is to win world championships, but our ambitions go far beyond competitive gaming. With Drake and Scooter’s support, we’re going to build a lasting brand on the back of the content and apparel that our fans have come to love, aggressively expand into more games, scale our apparel business, and build a world-class management team.”

Drake and Braun will serve as strategic advisors for the organization with Braun also joining 100 Thieves board of directors. The “In Your Feelings” rapper and 100 Thieves are no strangers to each other and have already collaborated on custom gaming stations that accompany the rapper on his Scorpion Tour. There are also new apparel collaborations coming as well, no word if Drake’s OVO brand will be a part of it but it’s a safe bet to assume so.

With Drake on board could Ninja also be in 100 Thieves future? Definitely, something to consider it could be a good way for the rapper to pay the streamer the $5,000 he owes him. Just saying.

Sega Fans Rejoice: Analogue Unveils New HD Retro Console The Mega Sg

Mega Sg HD Retro Console

Source: Analogue / Mega Sg

No, it’s not the Mega Drive retro console that Sega is dropping eventually, but Analogue’s Mega Sg HD retro console might be the blast from the past fans of the iconic video game company have been waiting for.

Analogue has already released its HD Super Nintendo (Super Nt) console which by the way received rave reviews, and they are hoping for the same with the Mega Sg. For a very pricey $190 owners of the Mega Sg will be able to play the classic games they loved on the system in glorious 1080p with 48KHz 16-bit stereo sound.

What really separates Analogue’s retro console apart from the rest is its ability to play more games thanks to it being compatible with over 2,180 games. Unlike the competition’s systems that come pre-loaded with about 20 games, Analogue’s console will allow users to use actual Sega Genesis, Sega Mega Drive and Sega Master System game cartridges, so if you still own any you can blow the dust off them.

The one drawback to the console is that it will not come with a controller, those will be sold separately for $25, but if you still have working Genesis controllers, you’re already ahead of the game. The price may scare some retro gamers away making them settle for the cheaper consoles but for what Analogue delivers the $190 price point for the Mega Sg seems very reasonable.

The Mega Sg will come in four colorways: white, gray, and two black consoles with different color accents. The console is slated for an April 2019 release, Analogue is currently taking pre-orders on its site. Are you guys feeling Analogue’s new retro system? Is the price point too high? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Easy Fix: Sony Addresses Messaging Bug, Says It Has Resolved Issue

Sony Addresses Messaging Bug, Says It Has Resolved Issue

Source: SOPA Images / Getty

Sony basically quelled all PlayStation 4 owners fears today about a messaging bug that was allegedly “bricking” consoles.

We have been waiting for the company to address the issue and they did so via their PlayStation UK Twitter account. In the Tweet reply, the company informed worried PS4 owners that it “fixed the issue” and that the bug wasn’t bricking consoles but just “sending them into a crash loop” that could be “quickly fixed in under 5 minutes.”

What also stands out is the fact Sony addressed the issue without having to send out an update or firmware patch. So that basically means it was something on their end that had to be corrected. Definitely good news but this is definitely a good reason to keep your guard while gaming and making it your business to download the PlayStation App. Also, continue to play it safe by keeping your messaging privacy settings on “friends only” just in case.

Sony has yet to issue an official statement which could be taken as an indication to just how worried the company was about the messaging bug or if that they were already well aware of the bug and were on the job.

Hack Using PS4’s Messaging System Allegedly Will Brick Your Console

Hack Using PS4's Messaging System Allegedly Will Brick Your Console

Source: SOPA Images / Getty

These nerds are seriously bored. Over the weekend PlayStation 4 owners are saying a text-message based hack is bricking their consoles forcing them to do a factory reset.

Sony has yet to confirm or comment on the hack, but many have stated that they were victims. Gamers have taken to a PS4 subreddit claiming they were hit and are describing the same effects. The hack stems from a message that contains a string of characters that literally shuts down their consoles.

If you are worried about the hack and you should be, there is a way to combat it. You could either manage your messaging preferences from a web browser or check incoming messages via the PlayStation iOS or Android app which is considered the best way to be safe. You can also just handle it via your console by going into the Account Management tab, then the Privacy Settings tab. You either can switch your messaging preferences to either only friends or just turn them off completely.

As for possibly how it all started, a user stated atop the subreddit threat used the attack against everyone on his team except for one person who happened to have his messaging on private. So basically this sounds like it stemmed from a disgruntled gamer who can’t handle losses very well.

Regardless we hope Sony is indeed paying attention to this and working on some sort of patch to combat this hack because it is very worrisome.

Maybe They Didn’t Have to Grow Up… Toys ‘R’ Us Gets A New Wind in Q4

“I don’t want to grow up, I’m a Toys ‘R’ Us kid. They got so many toys at Toys ‘R’ Us that I can play with”

That jingle was the soundtrack of many an 80s baby’s birthday party or pre-Christmas joy. Sure there was Lionel Kiddie City and their Kangaroo “turned your frown upside down,” but Toys ‘R’ Us and Geoffrey the Giraffe did more than just flip your sad face to the happy face. Toys ‘R’ Us was heaven; each Barbie dream house represented the many mansions The Great One has for each goodie two shoes, the Twister games became glimmering bricks laid on those streets paved of gold and of course the Match Box cars lined them up and down each side.

But all of those images of crumbled in earlier this year when the company went into bankruptcy liquidation and seemingly pulled the plug on 800 stores. When they shut the doors of their US stores, the 70-year-old retailer let go over 31,000 workers.

But something happened and the owners had a change of heart. According to CNN, there were people interested in acquiring the company but this week the owners took an assessment of the remaining assets and decided to restart and rebrand the business.

The filing stated  that the company is considering “a new, operating Toys ‘R’ Us and Babies ‘R’ Us branding company,” and that it will “create new, domestic, retail operating businesses under the Toys ‘R’ Us and Babies ‘R’ Us names, as well as expand its international presence and further develop its private brands business.”

Toys ‘R’ Us has suffered over the last few years with the emergence of Walmart, Target, and Amazon as toy buying options. According to Business Insider, Walmart, Target and Amazon were able to slash prices on toys in such a way that the traditional stores could not compete. Even famed high-end toy store FAO Schwarz also suffered severely, as parents and grandparents opted to go to these one-stop shopping models, discount malls and internet spots to shop for their kids. Ironically, Toys ‘R’ Us acquired FAO Schwarz in 2009. And was sold in 2015 because it was not bringing in the projected earnings it once boasted.

Hopefully, the brand comes back stronger than ever with a new strategy to compete in this new era of shopping.

‘NBA 2K’ Publisher Taken To Court By Tattoo Company For Use of Certain Players’ Ink

'NBA 2K' Publisher Taken To Court By Tattoo Company

Source: El Nuevo Herald / Getty

Tattoos on NBA players are as common as the Nike sneakers on their feet. So with today’s scanning technology, its no surprise players body ink makes into the game. 2K’s constant desire to give its players the most realistic basketball video game experience possible every year with NBA 2K  has landed them in some legal hot water.

Solid Oak Sketches back in 2015 bought the rights to individual players tattoos such as LeBron James and Kobe Bryant. Back in 2016, the company decided to take the game’s publisher, Take-Two Interactive, to court arguing that the company infringed on the copyright of eight tattoo designs that are on the bodies of James and Bryant.

The tattoo saga continues this month as Solid Oak is asking a federal judge to deny a motion for summary judgment by Take-Two.

Per Page Six:

“Solid Oak Sketches argued in court documents this month that while some players, such as LeBron James, “may have granted his rights of publicity” to game maker Take-Two Interactive “through the [NBA] . . . that is a consideration completely separate and apart from whether the defendants ever received a license to use the copyrights to the tattoo artwork that was fixed on Mr. James’ body by tattoo artists.”

Take-Two has counter-argued that the inked images fall under fair use guidelines and the tattoos use in the game are no big deal because they are “rendered virtually unrecognizable on-screen.” The publisher also feels making tattoos copyrightable will make things very touchy beyond video games opening Pandora’s Box and paving the way for lawsuits such as the one they are battling.

This scenario does seem kinda ridiculous being that the ink is on the bodies of the players already and they should have a say so not Solid Oak.

Do you feel the Solid Oak Sketches has a case? Or do you think they are doing entirely too much with this lawsuit?

We are interested to see how this one plays out in court.

Rockstar Games New ‘Red Dead Redemption 2’ Trailer Shows off Heists & Other ‘Nefariuous Activities’

Red Dead Redemption 2 : Official Gameplay Video Part 2

Source: Rockstar Games / Red Dead Redemption 2

Rockstar Games promised another in-depth look at their ambitious western game Red Dead Redemption 2, and they delivered today with a second gameplay trailer.

The first gameplay trailer focused on the games visually beautiful, and at the same time, dangerous world players will traverse. Today’s reveal shows off intense action and “nefarious activities” you and the game’s character Arthur Morgan will get into.

Immediately in the 4:23 clip, we see how Red Dead Redemption 2 seamlessly blends story with action.  While you can freely explore the vast world you are always under the constant threat of danger in the evolving Wild West. Rockstar points while playing you will experience and discover adventures naturally as you move from one moment to another.

Outside of gambling, being an outlaw takes center stage in the trailer showing off the many ways how Arthur and his gang can terrorize the West and earn money. The trailer is a learner’s guide on how to rob that would make 50 Cent proud. You can either rob trains, hold up stores, pull of large-scale heists, stop passersby and stagecoaches or become a loan shark and collect debts. Of course, there are consequences to your wrong actions. The more you and your gang rise up the nefarious ranks bounty’s will be put on your head, and bounty hunters will hunt you down so Arthur will have to keep his head on a swivel.

Lawmen will also track you down by conducting investigations in hopes of bringing you in to meet the hangman. Of course, a bandit needs a break, like in Grand Theft Auto V, Arthur’s appearance is fully customizable. You can make him bathe and shave or if you are serious about that outlaw life choose not too. But we are sure Arthur would want to clean up nice for the ladies as the trailer does show you can also go on what it looked like a group date.

Last but certainly not least is the gunplay. The “Deadeye” slow-motion targeting system looks fantastic giving players the option to target multiple baddies or accurately take out vehicles. Players can also opt to play in the first-person mode if you want to see the carnage up close and personal. This might be our final look at the game before its October 26 release, and it definitely got us hyped.

Red Dead Redemption 2 and special editions of the game are available for pre-order right now. You can watch the new trailer below.

‘Marvel’s Spider-Man’ Swings Past ‘God of War’, Now PS4’s Fastest-Selling Video Game

Spider-Man PS4 Is now Sony's Fastest-Selling Game

Source: Sony/Insomniac Games

It’s a good year to be Sony and to also own a PlayStation 4.  God of War’s reign at the top as the console’s fastest-selling game was shorter than leprechauns thanks to Spider-Man.

Marvel’s dominance is not only being felt on the big screen in the but the video game realm as well. Variety reports that Insomniac’s Spider-Man game is now wearing the crown as the consoles quickest selling game by 3.3 million units in first 3 days eclipsing God of War’s 3.1 million units easily.

To put in perspective how much money the game pulled in since it’s release, it has surpassed Spider-Man: Homecoming’s $117 million opening weekend at the box office by bringing in roughly a staggering $198 million. The game also broke Sony’s record for preorders with a million spidey fans securing their copy of the game early. Oh, and Sony does count the $399.99 Spider-Man PS4 Pro Bundle in the total but has not revealed exactly how many of them were sold. So that total could be even higher once they eventually share that information.

Speaking to USA Today, PlayStation’s global senior vice president of sales and head of North America business operations, Stephen Turvey added:

“Our expectations are always set at the highest levels. It’s met and exceeded all expectations. I think the company and the campus and our fans are super proud of it.”

Marvel’s Spider-Man is the web crawlers latest solo video game adventure since 2014’s Amazing Spider-Man 2 which was based on the lackluster film of the same game. Like the movie, the game was critically panned and might have been the reason for his long absence.

Insomniac managed to put together a very authentic Spider-Man experience, and chances are you have seen a photo share from the game grace your timeline. The game is being very well received and is currently holding an 87 rating from 102 reviews on Metacritic.  Take our word for we can’t turn the game off our damn selves, so if you haven’t secured yourself a copy make it your business to add this game to your collection NOW.

Sony PlayStation Classic

Nintendo’s success with their mini consoles is definitely having an effect on the video game world. First Sega announced its Mega Drive (Genesis) mini, and now Sony is throwing its name in the hat with the PlayStation Classic Mini Console.

Its been almost 25 years since the groundbreaking home console, the PlayStation was first introduced to the world. The console was an instant hit with gamers eventually becoming the first console to ship over 100 million units offering for the first time the chance to play 32-bit games with real-time 3D rendered graphics in the comfort of their homes.

If you are one of those gamers who wanted to get that feeling again of pressing that power button and seeing the iconic load up screen Sony has good news for you. The PlayStation Classic will launch on December 3rd, 2018, the same day the original console hit shelves in Japan back in 1994. As far as cost, it will only run you $99.99 and is now available for pre-order at select retailers such as GameStop and Best Buy.
