Today in Hip-Hop History: Biggie Speaks On Beef With Tupac On Sway and Tech In L.A. 23 Years Ago

On this date in 1997, just a little more than a week before his untimely death, Christopher Wallace aka Biggie Smalls appeared on the Sway and Tech’s The Wake Up Show, where he discussed the historic, yet tragic beef between him and the late Tupac Shakur.

Biggie, who later changed his name to The Notorious B.I.G., spoke on his beef with ‘Pac, addressing the claim that he stole Shakur’s style and a virtually unknown and unconfirmed story of Junior Mafia member Lil’ Cease almost killing the Death Row legend.

Biggie went on to freestyle on the famed Los Angeles based Hip Hop show alongside Cease, spitting what later morphed into the second verse from “Long Kiss Good Night”. Some critics and those who heard the show that morning took that as a shot at ‘Pac about six months after he was killed in Vegas.

Eight days later Christopher “The Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace was killed in a drive-by shooting after leaving the Vibe Magazine after party for the 1997 Soul Train Music Awards. He was 24 years old.
