Young Dolph’s Alleged Killers Get New Trial Date

Young Dolph family

news reports have confirmed that the two men who were arrested and charged for the murder of Young Dolph have recently received a new trial date.

Both the prosecution and defense have contributed to the delay of the murder trial of Justin Johnson and Cornelius Smith, which was originally scheduled for March, but pushed back until this month. Now, the new start date for the murder trial is set for September 23.

Shelby County Judge Jennifer J. Mitchell was not happy granting the motion of continuance, stating, “I was really anxious to get this case over and done with starting this week, but they both expressed to the court the desire to get experts in. So I allowed the continuance to occur.”

Dolph, whose real name is Adolph Thornton Jr., was shot and killed in front of a bakery in November 2021. Two other men have also been charged for their involvement in the killing. Jemarcus Johnson has pleaded guilty to three counts of being an accessory after the fact, but has not yet been sentenced. Hernandez Govan has also been accused of ordering the killing, which he has denied. He is also currently waiting on a trial date.

Suspect From Lil Baby Concert Shooting Revealed As CEO Jizzle’s Brother

Lil Baby, Ceo Jizzle

In a shocking twist, the identity of the shooter who shot Young Dolph’s cousin, CEO Jizzle, at the recent Lil Baby concert in Memphis in Sept. 2023 has been revealed. It was unveiled that the shooter has been identified as Jizzle’s brother.

Brotherly Betrayal?

The suspect responsible for the gunfire has been identified as none other than Kevin Young, the brother of CEO Jizzle, who was injured during the incident. During a court hearing on Tuesday, court records revealed that Kevin Young’s bond had been revoked by a Shelby County judge in Tennessee.

Young, who was 22 years old at the time of the incident, fired a shot inside the downtown arena and struck his brother, CEO Jizzle, during the rap concert. Fortunately, Jizzle only sustained minor injuries after being hit in the stomach, as confirmed by officials.

Prior To Charges

Previously, Young’s lawyer had stated that his client was accused of shooting his brother while standing next to each other during the Lil Baby concert. The motive behind this shocking act of violence remains unclear, leaving both the public and law enforcement puzzled.

Following the shooting, Young was arrested on Sept. 27 and was charged not only in connection to the Lil Baby concert shooting but also with illegal possession of weapons and drugs.

Arrest Made In Shooting At Lil Baby’s Concert: Suspect Faces Multiple Charges

In a shocking turn of events, Memphis police have apprehended a man concerning a shooting during a recent Lil Baby concert. The suspect, a 22-year-old individual, faces charges related to reckless endangerment, unlawful possession of weapons, and drug-related offenses at a Memphis residence.

Suspect Arrested

Memphis police have arrested a man concerning a shooting during a recent Lil Baby concert on September 7. The suspect, identified as Kevin Young, 22, was arrested on September 27 on charges of reckless endangerment and unlawful possession of weapons and drugs at a residence in Memphis, leading to a breakthrough in the investigation.

The shooting incident unfolded while Lil Baby was performing, prompting an immediate police response and necessitating the rapper’s evacuation under tight security measures. Among those injured was CEO Jizzle, cousin of the late Memphis rapper Young Dolph, who has yet to state Young’s arrest publicly.

Security Protocols Questioned

The investigations have raised questions about the security protocols at the venue, as police remain uncertain about how Young managed to bring a firearm into the FedEx Forum

In response, the arena has implemented a clear bag policy for all future events, aiming to prevent similar incidents and ensure the safety of patrons.

During Young’s arrest, law enforcement officers discovered not only guns, ammunition, and drugs at the home. Truquez Boyd, 25, and Kylon Cown, 23, who were present in the residence, were also apprehended on drug-related charges, although they were not directly linked to the shooting incident.

Lil Baby’s Concert Shooting In Memphis Leaves Young Dolph’s Cousin Injured

Lil Baby’s recent concert in Memphis, Tennessee, took a dangerous turn when gunshots rang out. The Atlanta rapper was forced to abruptly end his performance, as a man, who was recently identified as the cousin of the late rapper Young Dolph, was shot and rushed to the hospital.

Young Dolph’s Cousin Shot

On September 7, Lil Baby was forced to abruptly end his performance at the FedExForum as one person was shot and rushed to the hospital. The gunshot victim was later revealed to be Ceo Jizzy, the cousin of the late Memphis rapper Young Dolph.

Gunshots erupted during the Its Only Us artist’s performance, where he was headlining his Lil Baby and Friends” Tour. The Memphis police swiftly responded to the scene on Beale Street, arriving around 10:30 PM.

As they arrived, Ceo Jizzy had been injured from the shooting. A video captured the moment he was wheeled out of the venue, still conscious but in critical condition. Jizzy was immediately transported to Regional One Hospital for medical treatment.

A day later, Jizzy posted a clip of himself in a hospital bed on social media, where he not only asks fans to “pray” for him, but to “pray for the opps.”

An Eyewitness Speaks Out

According to Memphis police, the shooting took place on the first floor of the FedExForum, but no further details have been released regarding the circumstances. The incident occurred within the first thirty minutes of the concert, leading to the evacuation of the arena for safety reasons.

Clarissa Johnson, an eyewitness, described her experience when the shots were fired, stating:

“I heard a pop. I’m not sure what happened but I had a suite, so I told all my crew, ‘get down.’ So we evacuated. Once we evacuated, did a head count. I’m still not sure what happened. It’s not so sweet tonight, though.”

Due to the incident, Lil Baby’s scheduled performance in Louisville has been canceled, according to Ticketmaster. The identity of the shooter remains unknown at this time.

Lil Baby On The Move

On a lighter note, Lil Baby had some assistance for his tour with help from actress/singer Teyana Taylor. Taylor was hired to be his Creative Director on tour to help him with his live performances and help fans have an “unforgettable experience.”

In more Lil Baby news, the “Yes, Indeed” rapper hosted a back-to-school drive for children in Atlanta just before the school year began in August 2023. The drive provided bookbags, school supplies, sneakers, haircuts, and even carnival games for local children.

Young Dolph’s Fiancée Fights For Late Rapper’s Justice

Young Dolph, Mia Jaye

Late Memphis rapper Young Dolph’s fiancée is on a mission for justice after his tragic passing. Speaking with Memphis’ WREG News Channel 3, she introduced her impactful movement, “Black Men Deserve to Grow Old,” transcending beyond a streetwear brand to confront the senseless violence plaguing their community.

‘Black Men Deserve To Grow Old’

Mia Jaye, the fiancée of the late Memphis rapper Young Dolph, is determined to fight for justice following his untimely death.

In a recent interview with Memphis’ WREG News Channel 3 on Nov. 30, Jaye passionately advocated for justice for Young Dolph and introduced her powerful movement, “Black Men Deserve to Grow Old.” The campaign holds a more profound meaning beyond being just a streetwear brand, aiming to address the senseless violence that claims lives in their community.

Under the banner of “Black Men Deserve to Grow Old,” Mia Jaye holds individuals accountable for the violent acts that plague their community. She believes that the lack of accountability perpetuates the cycle of senseless killings, and it’s time for change. Jaye shared in the interview:

“We’re not holding one another accountable for the lives that are being taken senselessly, violently, and things of that nature. And so we need to speak up and let our people know like we need to do better.”

‘I Don’t Want People Thinking We’re Good’

The tragic loss of her brother in 2021, followed by the murder of Young Dolph on November 17, 2021, catapulted Jaye into action. As a mother of their two children, she finds solace and empowerment in their creativity and talent.

The children, aged 6 and 9, have embraced their voices and are actively participating in the movement. Jaye explained:

“They feel so empowered, you know, as 6 and 9-year-olds, right. Like they feel so empowered, like they have a voice and they’re using it, and they see their creation come to life and they’re just so proud of it.”

However, two years after Young Dolph’s murder, Mia Jaye’s frustration with the judicial system is palpable. She has taken to social media to raise her concerns and demand accountability. In her plea to the public, she emphasized:

“I don’t want people thinking we’re good; we’re just plugging along. No, we’re not. I don’t even know what’s going on, so let the public ask y’all. That’s why I opened up my mouth because the feet still need to be held to the fire.”

Justice For Dolph

Jaye expressed her dismay at the news surrounding the case, particularly regarding Judge Lee Coffee recusing himself and accused shooter Justin Johnson of producing a song while in jail. She expressed frustration:

“For me to see this play out as if it is some type of entertainment… That’s a disrespect to me. That’s a disrespect to my family, and it’s a disrespect to Adolph.”

When asked about her vision of justice for the late rapper, Mia Jaye emphasized the importance of truth and accountability:

“It looks like the truth coming to the forefront, not just a fall guy, a fall that won’t be good enough… Everybody who had any type of involvement with this being brought to justice, being brought front and center, being handed a sentence.”

The trial for Young Dolph’s accused killers will start in 2024.

R.I.P. Young Dolph

In other news involving justice for Young Dolph, the trial dates have been set for murder suspects Cornelius Smith and Justin Johnson. The date for the suspects will be March 11, 2024, in Shelby County, Tennessee.

Screen Shot 2023 06 15 at 8.51.38 AM

Two years ago Memphis rapper Young Dolph was gunned down in broad daylight outside his favorite cookie shop. Now a person of interest in the case has also been killed.

According to multiple reports Josh Taylor aka CEO Teezy has been killed in Memphis’ Orange Mound Neighborhood. CEO Teezy has never been charged with the murder of Young Dolph.- One of the men accused in Young Dolph’s murder pleaded guilty in his court hearing on Friday morning. Jermarcus Johnson, 26, is accused as an accessory after the fact of conspiring to murder Memphis rapper Young Dolph. Johnson is one of four men charged in the case.
He admitted to assisting his brother Justin Johnson in the days after the rapper was killed by taking possession of Justin Johnson’s cell phone and car, so authorities would think Justin was not in Memphis.
Last week, 26-year-old Jermarcus Johnson pleaded guilty to three counts of accessory after the fact in Dolph’s murder.

While Johnson had no role in Dolph’s killing he was accused of helping alleged shooters Justin Johnson and Cornelius Smith after they did the deed.

Justin Johnson and Smith have yet to go to trial.

The alleged mastermind behind the death of Young Dolph has received a bond amount. According to WREG-Memphis, Govan’s bond is set at $90,000.

“The lawyer talked to me yesterday about Mr. Govan’s presence and we decided his presence was not necessary,” Judge Lee Coffee said.

If Goven is able to post bond, he will be placed on house arrest and can only leave for medical needs or to discuss the case with his lawyers.

Govan is said to have blood pressure issues, along with chest pains and arm tingling. District Attorney Steve Mulroy revealed the bond amount was agreed upon by Young Dolph’s family.

“We have come into some information about Mr. Govan’s role and medical conditions that makes us think this is the best resolution in order to get justice for the case,” Mulroy said.
