Jay-Z Brings Out Nas, Cam’ron, Jim Jones and Pays Tribute to Nipsey Hussle at Webster Hall

On Friday night (April 26), Jay-Z made history at the newly renovated Webster Hall concert venue in New York City. On the notable venue’s opening night, the Brooklyn legend performed a slew of classics and managed to surprise the crowd with iconic surprise performances.

Jay-Z performed his “B-Sides 2” set at the notable nightclub and concert hall, an alternative set of his hit classics and also stumped the audience with surprise performances.

Nas joined Jay-Z on stage to perform  their 2007 collaboration “Success” followed by the Illmatic rapper’s “The World Is Yours” and right into Jay-Z’s “Dead Presidents” (which samples “The World Is Yours”) and the Queens legend’s “New York State of Mind” closed out their set.

Jay-Z also brought out Cam’ron to perform their 2002 collab “Welcome to New York City.” Not only was the audience surprised, but it became apparent that Hov wanted this show to be unapologetically New York City. Soon after, Jim Jones joined the stage to perform a Diplomats classic “I Really Mean It.”

Jay-Z went on to perform a freestyle where he paid tribute to Nipsey Hussle:

“Gentrify your own hood before these people do it. Claim eminent domain and have your people move in. That’s a small glimpse into what Nipsey was doing. For anybody still confused as to what he was doing.”

The show is Webster Hall’s first show since it closed down for renovation in August 2017. The venue is heralded as being one of New York City’s most iconic hot spots with a special knack for Hip-Hop culture. Jay-Z’s set at Webster Hall solidified Hip-Hop’s eminence beyond music and into a culture by feeding the masses with a bottomless New York City jam session.

Webster Hall is back, and Jay-Z will be there. Today (April 15), the famed New York City venue announced its re-opening with Hova putting on a B-Sides show of his rarely performed songs.

Sounds like a win win.

Webster Hall will re-open Friday, April 26, after an extensive renovation that had the venue shuttered for over a year. The B-Sides 2 show will be Jay-Z’s first time performing in the OG venue.

“When we were thinking about who would be the right choice to open this legendary venue, we knew it had to be a world-famous New York City icon,” said Brett Yormark, CEO of BSE Global, via a press statement. “No one fits that description better than JAY-Z, who will join an unparalleled list of celebrated performers who have played Webster Hall.”

The first B-Sides show went down at Terminal 5 back in 2015 and was a TIDAL-sponsored affair.

Expect the same treatment this time around as details start to flow in.

This story is developing.
