Brown Skin Girls Across the World Helped Beyoncé Debut at No. 2 With ‘The Lion King: The Gift’

Music lovers everywhere have been rushing to theaters over the past week to hear Beyoncé as the voice of Nala in Disney’s live-action remake of The Lion King. Based off the Billboard 200 charts this week, they must’ve also been heavily listening to her amazing voice on the companion album The Lion King: The Gift, as the project now proudly sits in the No. 2 position.

While there’s much on the album worth streaming — “OTHERSIDE” is just heavenly to be honest — we can’t help but think the success is in part due to all the beautiful Black & POC girls in the world currently making the curated LP’s standout cut “BROWN SKIN GIRL” go viral.

The album’s top 5 debut reflected the box-office success of the film itself, with The Lion King bringing in $963 million USD in its first two weeks of screening according to Variety. The Gift garnered 54,000 equivalent album units in the U.S., with 11,000 of those being pure album sales as reported by Billboard. Many have been quick to note that this is Bey’s third top 10 placement this year, with the Coachella-geared HOMECOMING: THE LIVE ALBUM reaching No. 4 and her 2016 magnum opus LEMONADE returning to No. 9 back in May. As The Gift is exactly that in its approach to honoring Afrobeat and African culture as a whole, we’re hoping to see way more success and eye-grabbing visuals arrive from this project.

Listen to The Lion King: The Gift, a companion album curated by Beyoncé for Disney’s remake of ‘The Lion King,’ on all streaming platforms. Watch the visually-astounding extended cut of “SPIRIT” and accompanying music video for “BIGGER” below if you haven’t seen it already:

After Cardi B Co-Sign, Tierra Whack Salutes Queen Bey For Huge Look – “I Wanna Give A Huge Thank You To Beyoncé”

Tierra Whack

Grammy-nominated rapper Tierra Whack is doing big things in 2019. Fresh off getting featured on the XXL Freshman Class list and having Cardi B put some respect on her name, the Philadelphia rap newcomer is now getting a major look on the new The Lion King: The Gift album.

Whack went to Instagram Tuesday to salute the project’s executive producer Beyoncé for giving her a chance to shine on the star-studded album.

A few days ago, Cardi B named Whack as one of the rap newcomers on her radar.

Tierra is one of a select few rap rookies including Da Baby, Megan Thee Stallion and Blueface on the XXL Freshman ’19 list.

Recently, Whack jumped on Instagram with a shot of Universal Music Publishing Group CEO and Chairman Jody Gerson donning her gear.

‘The Lion King: The Gift’ Cover Art and Track List Unveiled Featuring JAY-Z, Tierra Whack, Burna Boy & More

Beyonce’s publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, took to Instagram to unveil the cover art and track list for the forthcoming album, The Lion King: The Gift.

She shared the art work first which shows two gold plated lions, presumably representing Scar and Mufasa, at each other’s tails.

The visuals for the lead single “Spirit” by Beyonce is slate to air tonight at 8pm E/T on ABC, Noel Schure announced in the caption above.

The #Beyhive definitely began buzzing after the revelation of the album’s stunning art work. But things went into high gear when her publicist also dropped the star-studded track list.

The collection features Bey, JAY-Z, Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino, Tierra Whack, Burna Boy, Tekno, Jessie Reyez and more. To top it off, the album was executive produced by the Queen Bey herself.

“This is sonic cinema,” said Beyoncé. “This is a new experience of storytelling. I wanted to do more than find a collection of songs that were inspired by the film. It is a mixture of genres and collaboration that isn’t one sound. It is influenced by everything from R&B, pop, hip hop and Afro Beat.”

The only thing we’re waiting to find out is if we’re going to receive the soundtrack at the same time as the movie.
