Actress Taraji P. Henson used her platform as host of the BET Awards 2024 to deliver a pointed critique of the Republican party. Speaking in Los Angeles on Sunday evening, Henson emphasized the importance of voting this year and criticized a new law targeting homeless camping.

Addressing the audience, Henson alluded to the authenticity of the Republican party’s plans, specifically mentioning “Project 2025.” Her remarks underscored a broader conversation about social justice and political accountability, resonating deeply with viewers and attendees.

“Time for us to play chess, not checkers,” said Henson. “It’s about making decisions that will affect us as human beings. Our careers, our next generations to come. Did you know that it is now a crime to be homeless? Pay attention. It’s not a secret. Look it up. They are attacking our most vulnerable citizens. The Project 2025 plan is not a game. Look it up.”

According to Democracy Docket, President Donald Trump, alongside top Republicans and conservative figures and organizations, has outlined a plan to reshape the federal government according to their vision. Dubbed “Project 2025,” this collection of policy transition proposals details how, in the event of a November election victory, Trump aims to significantly overhaul the federal government to advance an extremist far-right agenda.

You can hear Henson below and learn more about Project 2025 and its dangers here.

Pop Smoke’s Brother Said Rapper Received Death Threats Before He Was Killed

Pop Smoke's 'Dior' Goes Platinum

Yesterday, Pop Smoke’s brother, Obasi Jackson, sat down with Taraji P. Henson for the latest episode of her Peace of Mind Facebook series. He revealed that prior to his brother’s death, Pop had been receiving death threats. However, they did not know who the threats were coming from.

“All of that stuff he went through, it was just—there was a time when he went through a situation that was also … People would put him down and count him out,” he said. “There was a lot of threats on his life because of that. And people were trying to figure out where the threats were coming from. I didn’t think that anybody would do that and it’s just a lot that goes into it.”

Later in their conversation, he said that he was skeptical of the team that Pop had around him at the time of his death.

“It’s mind-boggling to me that someone would let a superstar go out with no security,” Jackson said. “That still plays on my mind. That just don’t make no sense. So, I don’t wanna point fingers, that’s not who I am as a person, but the truth is what the truth is and that’s something that bothers me.”

Pop Smoke was killed almost a year ago on February 19, 2020, in Los Angeles. Since his death, two men and two teens were charged with killing the Brooklyn rapper. Corey Walker, 19, and Keandre Rodgers, 18, face the death penalty, and the two minors, aged 17 and 15, were each charged with one count of murder and robbery in juvenile court.

Jackson also spoke about the first time he heard that his brother had died. “Me losing my own brother… I’m going through so many things,” he said. “I won’t be able to hug my brother again, tell him I love him again, I won’t be able to see him…I won’t be able to show him my accomplishments.”

Asian Doll Sits Down With Taraji P. Henson to Discuss King Von’s Passing

cv

In the year 2020, we have lost so many creative minds and artists on the rise. One of the lives the industry lost in 2020 was Chicago rapper, King Von, who was murdered outside of an Atlanta nightclub after a dispute with another rapper.

Since his passing, Asian Doll has been very vocal about her pain and grief at the loss of her ex-boyfriend. In an upcoming episode of Peace of Mind with Taraji Asian Doll shares what it was like once she heard that the love of her life passed away. In the 20 second clip, Asian Doll explains that once she found out about the passing of King Von her “whole world just crashed.”

“I had never felt a feeling like that. It’s like I was just broken,” she stated.

Asian Doll then describes her and King Von’s relationship prior to his passing. She explains that at the time, her and the rapper weren’t on the best of terms at the moment. I want to say like six days before he passed away, we had broken up and I was real hard on him. I was not trying to see him. I did not want to see him at all.”

In the preview of the episode, Asian Doll describes King Von as her soulmate. “It was more like a soulmate. It’s like dang I met you before, like how I feel so connected to you?” She also tells Taraji that Von was her first real boyfriend, her first love.

“It is ok to feel. You loved that man and he died suddenly. He was taken in a senseless murder. You know that’s not something you just push through and try to cope with,” Taraji said to Asian to comfort her.

If anyone can relate to Asian Doll it would be Taraji P. Henson, who lost the father of her son, Marcel, to murder back in 2003.

You can catch the full episode between Asian Doll and Taraji P. Henson on January 4th at 12 PM EST on Facebook Watch.

Mary J. Blige Says She ‘Won’t Deprive Myself of Love’ After Divorce But Prefers Being Single Than Making The Same Mistakes ‘Over and Over’

Mary J. Blige Says She Wont Deprive Myself of Love After Divorce But Prefers Being Single Than Making The Same Mistakes Over and Over

Mary J. Blige is the latest guest to appear on Taraji P. Henson’s Facebook Watch series, Peace of Mind With Taraji.

The singer dealt with a public divorce after a 10-year marriage with Kendu Isaacs and talks about the romantic lessons she learned.

Instead of rushing into another situation, Mary says she’ll “rather be single than make the same mistakes over and over again.”

She admitted that the holiday season “gets lonely, and it gets sad, but, you know hey, I just gotta thug this out until something excellent comes along, which I don’t know when that’s gonna happen. I’d rather be by myself than to keep making the same mistakes over and over again, so I’m gonna be patient and sift through this thing and love on me right now.”

Although she’s not searching, that doesn’t mean Mary J. Blige doesn’t want some real love. “I’m not gonna deprive myself of living either, you know,” the singer-actress told Henson. “I’m not gonna deprive myself of romance if ever it shows up.”

Taraji credited the Power Book II: Ghost star for always speaking candidly about her mental health. “Long before it was cool to even talk about mental health, you made a point to be open about yours.” Blige responded, “When you’re going through so much hell, it’s not for you to keep it private … I don’t think we are given these platforms as artists to just sit on it and be selfish.”

When speaking on the importance of mental health the “Family Affair” singer said, “When I think of mental health, I think of just being stable mentally, waking up in your right mind, being able to accept the things you can’t do anything about. It’s really just stability in our thinking.”
