Slim Thug Says Only Black People Should Own Black Music: ‘We Need To Take The Culture Back’

Slim Thug

Slim Thug takes a stand as he advocates for exclusive Black ownership of Black music. During an Instagram live session, the Houston rapper voiced his discontent with the current landscape, emphasizing the need for Black individuals to own their music. Slim Thug firmly believes that addressing this issue is crucial for a fundamental transformation in the music industry.

‘We Need To Take The Culture Back’

Slim Thug is making a bold statement about music ownership, expressing his desire for Black people to own Black music exclusively.

During his Instagram live on December 3, Slim Thug expressed his dissatisfaction with the current state of Black music ownership. The rapper specifically highlighted the presence of Jewish individuals owning music from Black artists, stating that he wants “only Black people to own Black music.”

Slim Thug firmly believes that until this issue is addressed, a fundamental change in the industry is necessary.

“Jewish people should own Drake. Drake is Jewish. Jewish people should own Jewish music,” he said. “I don’t like that Jewish people own Black music. I don’t want Jewish people who are not a part of the culture to own the culture. I want only Black people to own Black music. Until we fix that, I don’t like it. If you ain’t Jewish, why the fuck you own a Jewish rapper’s music? If you don’t listen to that shit, why you own that? Nah, we not on that. We need to take the culture back. While these Black people broke, we need to own our music,” Slim Thug added.

‘That’s Equal’

When questioned by a fan about whether this principle should apply to other races as well, Slim Thug emphasized that it should, promoting equal ownership of music within each respective culture:

“It should be that for every race. If you Jewish, you should own Jewish music. If you white, you should own white music, country music. Spanish people should own Spanish music. Yeah, everybody who from their race should own their shit. So that’s not racist; that’s equal.”

Users on Twitter (X) reacted to Slim Thug’s comments One user named @KingSnowBunni “He is 100% correct but Jewish people run most major labels so they should just be independent.” Another user named @5minzcrypto commented “Music is meant to connect people, not discriminate. I don’t like this guy’s point of view.”

Slim Thug Talks Damon Dash

While Slim Thug did not single out any non-Black music executives by name, he acknowledged the frustration expressed by Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder Damon Dash, who has long advocated for Black ownership in the music industry:

“We don’t want people culture vulturing us. We going at all the culture vultures,” Slim Thug added. “That’s why tried to push Damon  Dash to the side. Dame Dash was right, he was standing on business.”

It is worth noting that major music labels such as Sony Entertainment, Universal Music Group, EMI, and Warner Music Group are all owned by non-Black music executives. Slim Thug’s call for Black ownership aligns with the ongoing conversation surrounding representation and equity in the music industry.

Slim Thug Faces Backlash

In November 2023, Slim Thug addressed another topic on his Instagram, expressing his opinion that sexual assault victims should adhere to a time limit for calling out their abusers rather than waiting for years. Subsequently, after facing immense backlash, the rapper issued an apology for his remarks.

HYBE America Acquires Quality Control Music

A case of non-Black executives that acquired a label with predominantly Black music was HYBE America acquiring Atlanta rap label Quality Control Music in February 2023. The owners of HYBE America are Korean and are responsible for promoting K-pop band BTS.

Slim Thug Apologizes After Facing Backlash For Controversial Remarks On Sexual Abuse Victims

Slim Thug

Slim Thug finds himself in hot water as he faces backlash following controversial comments about why sexual abuse victims don’t speak out sooner. Specifically, the Houston rapper’s remarks about singer/model Cassie filing allegations against Diddy sparked outrage on social media.

Slim Thug Apologizes

Slim Thug is facing backlash and finding himself in hot water after making controversial comments regarding the reasons why sexual abuse victims may not speak out sooner.

The Houston native’s comments come after Cassie’s recent filing allegations against Diddy. The rapper apologized on November 19 in an Instagram live:

“That was my personal opinion. I’m sorry we don’t agree on everything…I don’t hate Cassie, I didn’t even know Cassie was black…I just give y’all opinion, end of the day if I say something wrong correct me, tell me, I ain’t that small-minded,” he said.

Slim Thug Sparks Controversy

Slim Thug stirred controversy when he took to his Instagram story on Nov. 18 and shared his thoughts on sexual abuse victims coming forward after a significant period. Referring to the recent allegations made by Cassie against Diddy, which included sexual abuse, physical abuse, and rape.

Slim Thug expressed skepticism about the timing of such disclosures:

“When sh*t go down, you speak on it right there. It should be nuff and void. Let the people know immediately. There should be a time limit,” he stated.

The response on social media was swift and condemning. Many users on Twitter (X) criticized Slim Thug for his alleged manipulation and lack of understanding towards abuse victims.

One user named @prettygirlxclub commented “spoken like a true abuser and manipulator,” and one other user named @409TLIGHT commented “Nah my n*gga. Accountability don’t expire.”

Others called out Slim Thug for his alleged behavior in the past such as one user named @285Slim commenting,  “Slim Thug has a baby by his cousin. I didn’t know that until today. See why you should shut up sometimes lol.”

Why It Takes Victims A While To Speak Up

As for Cassie’s lawsuit against Diddy, the case was settled on November 17, just a day after it was initially filed. The details of the settlement have not been disclosed publicly.

Slim Thug’s comments regarding Cassie’s delayed disclosure of sexual abuse allegations against Diddy were met with backlash on social media. Users came to Cassie’s defense, pointing out why victims often wait to speak out.

Additionally, studies have shown that fear, not being believed, and feeling trapped are common factors contributing to delayed disclosure.

Tory Lanez Faces Backlash For New Promo

In a recent controversy involving another rapper, Tory Lanez faced backlash for a video promoting the deluxe version of his album, Alone At Prom. Users believed that the video, featuring a woman with twirling eyes, was a dig at court reporter Meghann Cuniff, whom Lanez had previously insulted during his shooting case involving Megan Thee Stallion.

[WATCH] Rapper Slim Thug Under Fire After Insensitive Comments About Cassie/Diddy Lawsuit

Screen Shot 2023 11 19 at 11.50.38 AM

Rapper Slim Thug decided to share his thoughts on the recent Cassie/Diddy lawsuit and fans have been chopping him up online. The Houston rapper says he doesn’t agree with women suing their abusers if they don’t speak up when it happens, “it should be a time limit.” He added that Cassie was with a billionaire and followed her heart to dealing with a trainer and now her apartment got smaller. He shared:

“You participated…you did that, stand on that!”

“When it goes down, speak on that s**t right then or it should be null and void!”

He accused her of looking for ways to get paid so she exposed Diddy for money.

Many women thought the comments were insensitive and proves he doesn’t understand the traumatizing results of hidden domestic violence. The rapper once wrote an op-ed for NYT where he detailed how he reached out to a real estate agent to help him take advantage of a government real estate short-sale program…but quickly got distracted by her cakes and lost sight of his original goal.

So interesting for him to say when NSFW photos LIKE THIS exist of him on the internet.

Thoughts?

Bun B and Friends Draws Crowd of 73,000+ For RodeoHouston H-Town Takeover Show

Bun B Says Tory Lanez Shooting Megan Thee Stallion Was 'Some Whore Sh*t'

As Bun B concluded is performance for Black Heritage Night during RodeoHouston, he knew that he just did something that probably wouldn’t be duplicated. As he rode on the Ford F 150 exiting the NRG Stadium, tears shed as he thanked people for attending. He didn’t just thanked fans for coming out, he thanked them for being apart of this historical night. A night not only dedicated to him, but dedicated to Houston’s entire Hip Hop culture.

“Some artists, myself included, were brought to tears by this opportunity,” Bun told ABC 13. “For many years as an entertainer, I had high aspirations, but the rodeo was never on that list. I just didn’t think that was a place that would be accepting of me and 30 years later, boy was I wrong.”

The Trill OG, told Houston CultureMap that he “didn’t want to didn’t want anyone to have a good reason not to come to this show.” Despite temperatures being in the 40 with a 70 percent chance to rain on March 11, the day of Bun B’s H-Town Takeover concert, everybody still came. He pulled off record-breaking numbers in fact.

His concert drew in a crowd of 73,259 fans, and as of today, that’s the largest crowd of any 2022 rodeo concerts. Another historical milestone attendees witness at RodeoHouston was that Bun B became the first Black male headliner from Houston in Rodeo Houston’s history.

Bun added, “There was a concerted effort to include as many Houstonians in this show as possible.” Let’s just say mission accomplished. The H-Town Takeover concert included the heavy hitters of Houston Hip Hop. Bun brought out, That Girl Lay Lay, Z-Ro, Slim Thug, Paul Wall, Lil Ke Ke, Lil Flip, Tobe Nwigwe, LeToya Luckett, Devin the Dude, Baby Bash, Big Pokey, Frankie J, Willie D, J. Prince, ESG, and  H-Town.

Paul Wall, the People’s Champ, also felt emotional being apart of this.

“It was such a surreal moment,” he said. “Performing in my hometown, with my idols and mentors, at the biggest stage imaginable, and on my birthday at that.”

Wall and Luckett shared birthdays on this date and Bun asked fans to sing “Happy Birthday” to them.

“It’s been difficult to choose my favorite aspect of the show, but the birthday song really touched my heart. Behind my Versace shades, I was holding back a few tears of gratitude,” Wall added.

Along with the star-studded line up, Bun also brought the culture to the rodeo. He brought out all kinds of slabs, with elbows poking and pop trunk waving. Slabs, elbows and pop trunk are all H-town slang for the make up of your car. A slab is slang for your customized car. Elbows are swangers, the Texas Wide Wheel rims that make your car a slab, and pop trunk is the act of waving a trunk. This is accomplished by a a computerized mechanism that allows a driver to open their trunk without a key. This allows the driver to ride with the trunk as high or low as they want.

He also paid respect to the legendary lost rappers of the Houston culture. He paid special homage to Screwed Up Click founder “DJ Screw, the other half of UGK Pimp C, Fat Pat, Big Hawk, and Big Mello.

Bun B honored the legacy of Pimp C in another way as well. He not only recited verse from “Big Pimpin,” and the “International Players Anthem,” but he also made sure he got his own dressing room for RodeoHouston.

Bun B and Pimp C formed UGK – Underground Kingz – as teenagers growing up in Port Arthur and hit it big when their classic album Too Hard to Swallow dropped in 1992. They followed that up with more classic albums like Super Tight in 1994 and Ridin’ Dirty in 1996.

Pimp C died in a Los Angeles hotel room in 2007.

Slim Thug Shows Persistent Interest in Megan Thee Stallion

n

Slim Thug has his eye on the Houston Hottie.

Megan Thee Stallion has a new admirer and he’s not keeping it a secret. Houston rapper Slim Thug has found his way into Meg’s comments section more than once recently. His persistence tells us that he’s keeping his eyes on the prize. Well, Meg took to Instagram to show off her newest FENTY lingerie and Slim caught wind of it. He slid in the comment section expeditiously.

“Wear it for me,” said the “Like A Boss” rapper.

It wasn’t going to be the first or last we saw Slim Thug creeping in the comments. He made another cameo on a promo video for WAP.

There is no word whether Megan has expressed her interest. Instead, she shared a laugh with singer, Kehlani who acknowledged Slim Thug’s thirst.

The “Savage” rapper has endured a roller coaster ride over the last 3-4 months. She achieved the success of two Billboard Hot 100 chart-toppers with “Savage” and “WAP.” In addition, she became a brand ambassador for Coach and FENTY Beauty, while being on the cover of a number of major publications.

Her success was also met with trauma when news broke of an alleged altercation with Tory Lanez that led to gunshot wounds in her foot. As the multi-platinum rapper continues to heal from the incident, she shows that no one can stop her momentum.

Bun B Recalls JAY-Z Kicking Him Off Set of Beyonce’s ‘Check On It’ Music Video

Bun B Recalls JAY-Z Kicking Him Off Set of Beyonce's 'Check On It' Music Video

Bun B joins the list of emcees who have launched their own podcasts. The Houston legend shared stories behind five songs, and the most notable story was the one about Beyonce’s “Check On It” music video.

“This is in New York. So we’re on the set and we’re filming the video, and if you look at the video, there’s a lot of kind of skimpy outfits. Queenie is there also, so it’s not like I’m there salivating over another woman,” Bun says, referencing his wife’s presence at the shoot. “But we’re like, ‘Whoa, this is crazy. Beyoncé’s dancing in this short skirt and she’s dancing in like a bikini,’ type of thing, you know.”

The Trill OG began setting up the vibes on set of the Hype Williams-directed video. “While all of this was happening, I think this is the scene with the chair, so it’s like her and several other girls and they all have these short skirts on and they’re all dancing seductively on the chair. They’ve got a leg up on the chair so you can kind of see some thigh and maybe a little bit of butt if you’re staring hard enough, and Jay-Z calls and talks to one of her assistants,” Bun continues. “If I had to guess it would’ve been her cousin Angie that he would’ve talked to because Angie has always been a right hand to Beyoncé. He’s like, ‘Yeah how’s the video going, what’s going good, are the guys there?’ All the guys that are with us are the only men there. Well, let me say this: there were other men there, but they weren’t straight.”

The racy scene prompted Hov to protect his then-girlfriend and have all the men cleared out of the room. “So they immediately come over to us and they kick all of us out to our dressing rooms and we’re told to stay there until we have to shoot. We’re not allowed to watch Beyoncé dance anymore,” Bun says.

Bun B says Beyonce eventually came over to them to apologize and explain what happened. ‘I’m so sorry you guys had to leave the room but Jay’s not comfortable,’” Bun recalls her saying. “And we’re all like, ‘We understand fully, that’s no problem, we’re happy to be here.’”
